The Obama administration is moving to dismiss charges against an arms dealer it had accused of selling weapons that were destined for Libyan rebels.
Lawyers for the Justice Department on Monday filed a motion in federal court in Phoenix to drop the case against the arms dealer, an American named Marc Turi, whose lawyers also signed the motion.
The deal averts a trial that threatened to cast additional scrutiny on Hillary Clinton�s private emails as Secretary of State, and to expose reported Central Intelligence Agency attempts to arm rebels fighting Libyan leader Moammar Qadhafi.
Government lawyers were facing a Wednesday deadline to produce documents to Turi�s legal team, and the trial was officially set to begin on Election Day, although it likely would have been delayed by protracted disputes about classified information in the case.

Trading Themes--
- Markets were roiled by a story discussing possible ECB tapering scenarios. Reportedly, one such scenario would cut back on purchases by EUR 10bln per month. It said its timing would depend on the economic outlook. I don't think an ECB tapering is imminent, but when traders saw the word tapering, they reacted immediately buy buying EURUSD.
- There was also a report that Deutsche Bank is considering a capital increase as well as freezing bonuses. It indicated that the bank is anticipating a settlement with the DOJ in the $4-5bn range.
- The trading focus has been turning towards U.S. September employment data at week's end. Street estimates are for a gain of about 170K in the month after the +151K advance in August. Any reading of roughly around +180K would keep a December rate hike in the frame. Wednesday will see the ADP private jobs survey. It is expected to increase +170K vs. +151K in August. Unfortunately it is not a reliable predictor of Non-Farm payrolls in any given month, but it is closely followed in any case.
- The GBP is trading lower again on ongoing worries about the impact of Brexit onthe U.K. economy. Nevertheless, recent data and sentiment have not been terribly disappointing. Furthermore, the recent decline in the GBP has been providing an economic stimulus. A Comment by UK PM May that "currencies go up and own" was not helpful for the GBP.
- Wednesday features final Service PMIs, ADP Private Payrolls and EIA Crude. China is closed all week for Golden Week observances.

Thanks AL. From an outsiders perspective the system sounds nuts. How they dismantle it and start again is beyond me but it doesn't look like Obama care is a success. Do the people on the street know it failed? I mean how can they not? Will this even impact on the election? Glad I don't have to vote for anyone.
If what happened to Gold today and Oil last week are anything to go by the volatility in the system is just getting greater. This next month is likely to be fun.

IB let me as a Brit who chose to emigrate to the US try to shed a little light from my pov.
Re Obamacare and its (un)affordable health care act
Firstly my monthly premiums in CO would amount to at least $500 per month and with a deductible or in English terms an excess of a minimum of $3500. Something I have never understood since moving to the US is how insurance companies get away with offering insurance but not quite covering everything. Something that would never work in Europe. And the argument they offer is that car insurance comes with a deductible but they never seem to be able to square 500 car insurance with their exorbitant thousands payable up front because before you leave the hospital or even before being admitted you are taken to the payment window.
Secondly many insurance companies are withdrawing their offerings and this is leaving many US States with little choice for the so called consumer who additionally is looking at what has become the norm every year a 20% increase
Now here is an alternative in CO Amendment 69 proposes a state run health care system FREE for ALL. they estimate an increase in taxes of 25 bln vs 35 currently paid in premiums. And you should hear the shrill of the NO guys pounding the table on TV and at town hall meetings. To me the proposal is a no brainer. It brings precisely those that cannot afford and those that are sick and inform and in desperate of coverage on board paid for but the healthy who work. 0It worked in MA why is there such a backlash against it. Oh of course the powerful insurance lobbyists.
Fourthly Medicare and Medicaid are just a joke they offer just as little in terms as coverage again aimed at precisely those who need the cover most forcing additional purchase of insurance that still leaves one with a deductible.
The system could not be more screwed up when the answer of looking at Canada, Australia, Europe and the UK systems have all been rejected on he basis that insurance companies need their own never ending supply of drugs via premiums.
PS To show even more how screwed up the system is here is that until I become a citizen I cannot vote despite paying taxes BUT I can own as many weapons as I like
What Bill says is one thing whether he can persuade his wife is another. I doubt it but 0care needs completely revamping if not dismantling

More to the point, if Bill Clinton is right about Obamacare (I have no idea I don't live in the U.S. and don't use the system) then you have a whole class of very pissed off people out there just waiting to vote the status quo out the window.

ks euro (and more so yen) is more susceptible to dwnside on a better nfp/ahe this friday than often is the case. usd longs overall are a lot lower than average. but of course we do need to SEE those better numbers first. however pre nfp dont think well see a close below 11115/20. youd probably want to fade a dip dwn there all things being equal.

cable 1.20 folks and probably towards parity. keep that in mind and sell the pullbacks. nearterm some barriers on way dwn to psychological 125. likely 127/126/12550 and 125 which might hamper but wont change lt trend. rebounds may be limited now to 131xx. one off blackswan scenarios may take it higher but will stay below last high 134xx. in any case use the rebounds to re-establish shorts.
close below 128 keeps pressure on but as we approach mid/end of wk thoughts will turn to nfp and selling likely to subside until data released.

"At its meeting today, the Board decided to leave the cash rate unchanged at 1.50 per cent.
...Inflation remains quite low. Given very subdued growth in labour costs and very low cost pressures elsewhere in the world, this is expected to remain the case for some time.
Low interest rates have been supporting domestic demand and the lower exchange rate since 2013 has been helping the traded sector. Financial institutions are in a position to lend for worthwhile purposes. These factors are all assisting the economy to make the necessary economic adjustments, though an appreciating exchange rate could complicate this.
Supervisory measures have strengthened lending standards in the housing market. Separately, a number of lenders are also taking a more cautious attitude to lending in certain segments. Growth in lending for housing has slowed over the past year. Turnover in the housing market has declined. The rate of increase in housing prices is lower than it was a year ago, although some markets have strengthened recently. Considerable supply of apartments is scheduled to come on stream over the next couple of years, particularly in the eastern capital cities. Growth in rents is the slowest for some decades.
Taking account of the available information, and having eased monetary policy at its May and August meetings, the Board judged that holding the stance of policy unchanged at this meeting would be consistent with sustainable growth in the economy and achieving the inflation target over time."

Dlr rallied ahead of Tokyo open on broad-based yen selling as release of upbeat U.S. ISM mfg index boosted risk sentiment, price easily penetrated last week high and also strong res at 101.84 and climbed to intra-day top of 102.21 after tripping stops above 101.85, suggesting the pair is likely to extend recent cross-inspired gain after minor consolidation.
Bids have been raised to 101.90-101.85 and more below with stops below 101.60.
Some offers are tipped at 102.20/30 and more above with stops touted above 102.80.
