Hopefully CO votes yes to amendment 69 which is a CO State run healthcare system free for all no excess or deductibles paid for via tax. The current estimate is that 25 bln will be raised through taxation (and the state believes they can run it within this budget) whereas right now CO residents pay 35 billion in premiums to insurance companies.
oh btw as there are very few choices left for consumers as several insurers have withdrawn from the CO marketplace

Weak China trade data hits equities, U.S. dollar -- Reuters.com
Reply
"Global equity markets slumped to a three-month low on Thursday after disappointing Chinese trade data renewed concerns about the world's second-largest economy, but rebounding oil prices and the dollar's market role led U.S. stocks to pare losses.
At their lows, Stocks on Wall Street fell almost 1 percent, and in Europe a bit more, following data that showed Chinese imports in dollar terms had contracted and exports dropped by a sharper-than-expected 10 percent.
The unexpected trade figures pointed to weaker Chinese demand both at home and aboard while deepening concerns over the latest depreciation in China's yuan currency CNY=CFXS, which hit a fresh six-year low against a firming U.S. dollar..."

Hillary Clinton is set to answer questions about her team's destruction of roughly 30,000 emails when she submits testimony Thursday in a high-profile lawsuit over her State Department records.
Clinton will be forced to describe the creation and operation of the server system that was kept in the basement of her Chappaqua, N.Y. home during her time as secretary of state, as well as the steps her staff took to separate work-related emails from private ones in 2014.
Her responses to the 25 questions posed by Judicial Watch, the conservative-leaning group that brought the suit, will be considered sworn testimony by a federal judge
The responses she submits to Judicial Watch will compel her to answer for inconsistencies in her past statements, such as the claim that she used a personal email address for "convenience" and her erroneous statement before the House Select Committee on Benghazi that the State Department was already in possession of the vast majority of her emails when she turned over 30,000 of them to the agency in 2014.

The Obama administration is starting a data-driven marketing push for Obamacare enrollment, hoping to boost signups for 2017 even as the healthcare law runs up against some significant obstacles.
Officials acknowledged the premium hikes and reduced competition on a call Thursday with reporters, but reiterated their chief response to the problems — that the majority of enrollees are eligible for tax subsidies to buy their plans.
"The most important thing I can convey today is the headline rates don't accurately reflect what consumers actually pay," Peck said.

- The economic calendar picks up Friday. That session features: U.S. Retail Sales, the October preliminary University of Michigan survey and a speech by Fed Chair Yellen. Her topic is academic, but she often feels the obligation to comment on the current state of the markets in such speeches.
- Thursday saw largely corrective trade in the major USD pairs as the markets digested a less hawkish than expected set of Fed Minutes from Wednesday. This correction came on the heels of a higher USD at the start of the week. While a December Fed rate hike still appears to be the preferred policy of the central bank, the latest Fed comments have raised doubts for some.
- The yield on the 10-yr note eased further Thursday to 1.730% -4bp. Fed Minutes often are usually shaded after the Fed Meeting to reflect the current thinking of the bank.
- As for the U.S. Presidential election contest, it seems the Republican party leadership sees it as a lost cause are are focusing now on trying to salvage the House and Senate races.

SFH morning. Far out.... what a disgraceful election. And what a way to run a campaign... gross all round. The NYT has finally stopped coming and I am grateful. It made Soviet Union era Pravda look balanced. I'm just glad the U.S. is not my country and I don't have to vote and I can even ignore most of it. I can't see how the U.S. can gain the higher ground after all that has been done since the election of George W. Bush.
Financial market implications are more interesting. The vulnerable spot is foreign funding of the U.S. Government. So the Bond market needs to be watched carefully. IMVHO the only way is down (yields up) bonds get trashed over time. Who would finance this unless they are being coerced?

- The Fed policy minutes were a jumble. I had been expecting a clear tightening bias. One item that it appears many observers fail to accept is that the policy focus is mostly inflation, not so much employment. Worries continue to be expressed about missed inflation targets. A rate hike in December is still POSSIBLE, but it is not a done deal, especially if future data remain mixed.
- The yield on the 10-yr note eased after the release and has fallen further today. Fed Minutes often are usually shaded after the Fed Meeting to reflect the current thinking of the bank, so they can be new news.
- The economic calendar is light today, but it picks up Friday when U.S. Retail Sales are due. Chinese Trade figures were a disappointment with exports falling 10%, reflecting weak overseas demand.
- As for the U.S. Presidential election contest, it seems the Republican party leadership sees it as a lost cause are are focusing now on trying to salvage the House and Senate races.

USD/JPY - 103.65.. Despite continuing its recent winning streak and touching a fresh 2-month peak of 104.64 shortly after Tokyo open, profit taking then emerged and knocked price lower, intra-day decline accelerated as the Nikkie moved into the black as downbeat China trade data spoofed investors and in turn led to broad-based yen-buying on risk aversion, the pair tumbled to as low as 103.56 before stabilising.
You don't need to be currency guru to predict recent usd's upmove has made a temp. top today and this high print will be marked as this week's top too.
Expect range trading to take place until European open and offers are tipped at 104.00/10 and more above with stops above 104.65.
Some minor bids are noted at 103.60-50 with stops touted below 103.10, suggesting selling the pair on intra-day recovery is favoured.
No major U.S. economic data are due out except the usual weekly jobless claims which gave the buck a lift last week but any corrective bounce should be views as a good selling opportunity for further downward correction to continue later. Market focus will be Friday's U.S. retail sales but this is tomorrow's business.
