U.K. Developments
Developments in the U.K. have continued to dominate trade in the latest week. A major event was House of Lords Economic Committee testimony Tuesday by Bank of England Governor Carney, who did not send the signal for a rate cut that many in the markets had been hoping for. His comments implied that an early rate cut is improbable in light of the GBP slide after the Brexit vote. He said there were limits to the central bank's ability to overlook the effect of the steep slide, about 18% since the Brexit, on inflation, and it would undoubtedly take it into account at its rate-setting meeting in the week ahead...

In response to the letter sent by FBI Director James Convey to eight Republican committee chairman in Congress, Hillary for America Chair John Podesta released the following statement Friday:
Upon completing this investigation more than three months ago, FBI Director Comet' declared no reasonable prosecutor would move forward with a case like this and added that it was not even a close call. In the months since, Donald Trump and his Republican allies have been baselessly second-guessing the FBI and, in both public and private, browbeating the career officials there to revisit their conclusion in a desperate attempt to harm Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.
FBI Director Comey should immediately provide the American public more information than is contained in the letter he sent to eight Republican committee chairmen. Already, we have seen characterizations that the FBI is 'reopening' an investigation but Comey's words do not match that characterization. Director Comey's letter refers to emails that have come to light in an unrelated case, but we have no idea what those emails are and the Director himself notes they may not even be significant.
It is extraordinary that we would see something like this just 11 days out from a presidential election.
The Director owes it to the American people to immediately provide the full details of what he is now examining. We are confident this will not produce any conclusions different from the one the FBI reached in July."

WASHINGTON Federal law enforcement officials said Friday that the new emails uncovered in the closed investigation into Hillary Clintons use of a private email server were discovered after the F.B.I. seized electronic devices belonging to Huma Abedin, a top aide to Mrs. Clinton, and her husband, Anthony Weiner.
The F.B.I. is investigating illicit text messages that Mr. Weiner sent to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina. The bureau told Congress on Friday that it had uncovered new emails related to the Clinton case one federal official said they numbered in the thousands

just an FYI, the US system is not a democracy. It is a Representative Republic...ultimately Delegates to the Electoral College chooses the President, not the popular vote. Needed 270 EC votes. That's why you hear about "battleground states".
To "steal" the election changing the vote in just those states will swing the election. The line that millions of votes cannot be rigged the election cannot be rigged, is a red herring.
Bush won in 2000, by swinging Florida, one county, by less than 100 votes...if my memory is correct.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch is declining to comply with an investigation by leading members of Congress about the Obama administrations secret efforts to send Iran $1.7 billion in cash earlier this year, prompting accusations that Lynch has pleaded the Fifth Amendment to avoid incriminating herself over these payments, according to lawmakers
Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) and Rep. Mike Pompeo (R., Kan.) initially presented Lynch in October with a series of questions about how the cash payment to Iran was approved and delivered.
In an Oct. 24 response, Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzik responded on Lynchs behalf, refusing to answer the questions and informing the lawmakers that they are barred from publicly disclosing any details about the cash payment,

fwiw, the daily Wikileaks - Number 21 today, is becoming impossible for the MSM PropOganda machine to ignore. FoxNews has been on it for about a week, and now the Clinton Acolytes are being forced to acknowledge, esp due to the recent Clinton Foundation details of the last few days. If they didn't they now risk losing all credibility as NEWS organizations.
AS ZH notes:
"the mainstream press, after seemingly concluding that this race is a done deal, has finally decided they can no longer ignore the Clinton scandals. "

FX,gold not impressed by this nice GDP. Good for elections propaganda(maybe).
JM you think Clinton has it then? I was really wondering about that. Those rallies that Trump manages (compared to Clinton's). They are amazing. I don't know what to think any more. No-one thought (that I heard prior) that BREXIT would happen. And it did. Honestly I won't believe anything until after November 8th.
As to FED, I don't think they hike but the bond market will do it for them and then we could have trouble. So I don't listen to the FED anymore. Too boring, too pointless. Still think geopolitics is where it's at at the moment. Could be wrong though. I've been wrong before. Got the scars.

GDP numbers come out late, get revised anyhow and are subject to a lot of dodgy data collection problems. This number wasn't spectacular enough to get anyone excited either way especially with an election coming up in what? Nine days? And they aren't even all trading days. So we all go back into hibernation and wait for the outcome.

Today may be a good day for Housecleaning, especially if we see some spikes // next week will have a Fed/NFP combo so adjustment time seems today -- Cable below 1.21 again is attractive level to trim shorts for fear of a squeeze, Aussie coming back towards support in its recent range and oil may spike USD/CAD above 1.3450 // EM has been VERY sensitive to rising yields the past days so next week CBs and data could make this worse
Choppy stox this week has seen volume increasing each day -- my take on US GDP will be governed by Nominal GDP because the Deflator is still a good broad indicator of "lumpy" inflation (Treasurys reaction)

One of the lietmotifs of a certain ideology has always been: "our Government can borrow as much as it wants, it can print its own money we have no constraints on policy" is about to be tested in the U.K. The GBP is down from 70 against the Euro to around 90 today. So far so good then. Policy adjustment without constraints. At the same time bond yields in the U.K. have soared. Though let's be honest a move from 0.6 percent to 1.2 percent on 10 year paper is small bananas in the greater scheme of things. Inflation, specifically imported inflation, will rise. This will test Carney and his club. The economy so far has been doing well. Much better than doom and gloomers expected. But then they were all talking Apocalypse. What will be interesting is: what happens now? Do we get to some kind of cruising altitude and leave the turbulence behind? I have no fixed idea on this. But it will be interesting. Not less for the queue of Euro exiters still stuck in Europe.

"Stocks fell on Friday, curbed by the continued surge in global bond yields, while the dollar hit a three-month high against the yen as investors grew more confident that the Federal Reserve will raise U.S. interest rates by the end of the year.
Benchmark 10-year U.S. and euro zone yields rose to their highest since May and 10-year British yields were firmly on track for their biggest monthly rise since January 2009, the second biggest in over 20 years.
Investors' focus turns to third quarter U.S. gross domestic product figures later on Friday after upbeat jobless claims, manufacturing and home sales data on Thursday strengthened the case for the Fed to raise rates by the year-end..."

- Today has seen bond yields remain at elevated levels into the release of preliminary U.S. 3Q16 GDP. Fixed Income markets have started to worry that interest rates might not remain at near-zero levels forever. Equity and forex markets are nervous as a result.
- Friday sees U.S. preliminary 3Q16 GDP. Following September Advance Trade data Wednesday, CNBC said its tracking of private GDP estimates (due Friday) have been raised substantially to 3%+ from about 2.5%. The latest Atlanta Fed GDPNow forecast for 3Q16 GDP Thursday was 2.10% from 2.00% on October 19.
- Thursday saw the first estimate for 3Q16 UK GDP. This was first broad snapshot of how the economy has performed since the Brexit passage vote. GDP grew by +0.5% vs. estimates for +0.3%. This was another nail in the coffin for a BOE rate cut in the near term. Gilt yields closed at 1.257% +10.8bp.
- Markets continue to try to reconcile the prospects for a Fed policy tightening in December with Yellen's new notion of a high-pressure economy. Odds are the Fed will hike rates before putting policy on hold again for most of 2017. Fed Funds futures have zeroed in on roughly 70% odds (69%) on a rate hike. It looks to me like the hawks and doves have reached a deal. The hawks get a December token rate hike in return for the doves getting a steady monetary policy next year.

Currently, EUR/USD trades +0.07% higher at 1.0905, having posting daily highs at 1.0911 last hours. The main currency pair managed to regain 1.09 handle and now struggles to extend gains beyond the last, as the funding currency status of the euro remains at risk amid positive Asian equities and higher oil prices, which suggest risk-friendly market environment.

Gold market sees largest quarterly surplus since Q4 2005 Thomson Reuters
Reply
According to a latest report on gold, published by Thomson Reuters research, the global gold market stands at a surplus of 250 tonnes
Falling mine production (822 tonnes, down 2.1%)
Healthy demand for physically-backed gold ETFs (over 100 tonnes for the third quarter in a row)
Is not enough to offset a surge in scrap supply and plummeting sales of jewellery in Asia
India & China saw jewellery consumption down 41% and 27% respectively year-on-year (despite an improvement in demand compared to the prior quarter)
The report says the gold price is unlikely to fall below $1,240
Next year the price is set to rally, averaging $1,420 an ounce
