nh- My general view is that the "bond vigilantes" since the election have been tightening for the Fed. I think Yellen must be pleased that the markets are "normalizing" rates without panicking. I'm thinking the 10-yr heads initially to somewhere around 3.00%, and the two year rises to about 2.00%.

TIC

I threw this up here only because of the Debt Armageddon folks -
The sum total in September of all net foreign acquisitions of long-term securities, short-term U.S. securities, and banking flows was a monthly net TIC outflow of $152.9 billion.  Of this, net foreign private outflows were $115.2 billion, and net foreign official outflows were $37.7 billion.

This is a "so what who cares" stat unless you know why the sellers need to raise cash (also somewhat dated)

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of the Treasury today released Treasury International Capital (TIC) data for September 2016.  The next release, which will report on data for October 2016, is scheduled for December 15, 2016.
Foreign residents decreased their holdings of long-term U.S. securities in September; net sales were $46.6 billion.  Net sales by private foreign investors were $7.9 billion, while net sales by foreign official institutions were $38.7 billion.
U.S. residents decreased their holdings of long-term foreign securities, with net sales of $20.4 billion.
Taking into account transactions in both foreign and U.S. securities, net foreign sales of long-term securities were $26.2 billion.  After including adjustments, such as estimates of unrecorded principal payments to foreigners on U.S. asset-backed securities, overall net foreign purchases of long-term securities are estimated to have been $63.3 billion in September.
Foreign residents increased their holdings of U.S. Treasury bills by $9.0 billion.  Foreign resident holdings of all dollar-denominated short-term U.S. securities and other custody liabilities increased by $28.9 billion.
Banks' own net dollar-denominated liabilities to foreign residents decreased by $118.5 billion

John - what is your judgement on bond vigilante environment on the yield curve effect on the USD? // what if Yellen knocks down the Hawks and the 10 yr starts to move on inflation expectations while the 2 yr is anchored by Yellen

Which way does this break?

Trading Themes--
  • The lead EURUSD relationship continues to gingerly probe new recent lows before backing off. This should continue until it stops working. The focus early today was on the U.S. 10-yr yield which at one point approached the 2.30% level. Clearly this has been USD positive.

  • Thursday sees another busy day for data. The highlight event will be testimony on the economy by Fed Chair Yellen starting at 15:00 GMT. Hints on future monetary policy could be forthcoming. Market odds strongly favor a Fed hike rate hike on December 14. I feel the Fed will speed up pace of interest rate hikes in the new year. The central bank happily follows the lead of "bond vigilantes".

  • As for now markets are trading on data collected before the Trump presidential victory last week. At that time the economy was showing mixed signs of improvement. The Trump administration will not be installed for another two months. His inauguration is on January 20, 2017. At this point though we still know little about who will be in his cabinet.

  • Markets are expecting a strong fiscal stimulus from the new administration in the way of infrastructure spending, lower taxes, increased energy production and a reduction in government red tape. Increased economic growth is expected to lead to rising stock prices, higher interest rates and a stronger USD.

"U.S. stocks fell and the dollar rose as investors assessed the potential implications of President-elect Donald Trump’s policy outlook. Oil retreated.

Banks led losses in the S&P 500 Index, while Apple Inc. paced a rebound in technology companies. The Treasury yield curve flattened, with 30-year bonds outperforming shorter-dated debt, as traders moved toward a consensus that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates next month. The greenback held at a nine-month high. Crude traded near $46 a barrel in New York after a government report showed U.S. refinery demand surged and Russia’s oil minister expressed optimism that OPEC would reach a deal..."

when Trump going to remove US forces off the middle east?

there is no reason for US forces to be stationed in the middle east of they 100% no dependent for their own crude and energy supply. that would make oil price to skyrocket as USA should never export a drop of oil and chaos would rule as the USA is out. US bonds and the "Wall"

OIL has natural cap on price (54-57) because of US production - this is a supply problem that OPEC can't fix -- reduce supply, support the price, can't work because the marginal potential supply comes on stream - a stronger USD works against them on two fronts

OPEC nations are not in financial condition to cut - a modest tariff as part of the new US trade policy supports the US producers // oil was 19 to 22 (below its utility value) for the years just before the Iraq invasion -- so there is no upside for OPEC action

A side bet is that oil below $43 is a test of my NO FED hike oil policy

panic is the theme when survival is questionable, does humanity at 2016 era have the awareness to stop the vicious circle that bonds allow to exist?

in Bolivia the government signed peace treaty with earth and legalized coca chewing, the same time those financing Anglo-Saxon colonies since 1600's keep on issuing the same JUNK bonds... so, timing is everything, maybe 2017 to bring again public panic in the US making the Americans to run on the banks, who knows? ; -)

So 'they' are holding the fort. FWIW a more geopolitically friendly regime in Washington lessens the possibility of a bond shock. Though Trump needs to do work with China. Depending on how this goes - and he will have to be good - we could have gently rising yields together with a recovering economy and an improving international relation situation. However that is a HUGE ask. He has taken on an enormous task. But Trump has to realise how dependent the U.S. is on the goodwill of its foreign financiers. It appears that the market's likelihood ("odds"?) of a rate hike in December is now over 90% -- would the Fed dare to NOT hike? -- GS put out a note before the US election about Fed concerns over a strong dollar, we have a lot of time before the FOMC and the Brainard Cabal (2 Governors+)realizes that it may not have influence much longer (2 Trump Appointees due) SO Yellen needs to "balance" odds into the meeting (if you believe market myths), reassuring the CABAL, and in the meeting will likely be faced w/ a crossfire from Hawks and Doves - Can Yellen close the deal?

How long will the Market bet the SURE THING w/o hedging after UK Remain and Clinton Express hit deep snow at the Finish Line?? Today (Kashkari, Bullard, PPI) or Tomorrow (CPI, Yellen)

OBAMA - Promoting Trump Policies

After the Obama Administration the American voter would have voted for anything that was upright and talking. Anything.

FWIW Trump is the right man at the right time. Of course this could all go pear shaped but let's see. Can't be worse than Obama and co.

"President Barack Obama, in Greece, urged Europe to resolve lingering issues from its debt crisis, saying leaders should favor growth over austerity, as part of their response to the rising populism in Western countries"

Obama s biggest achievement seems to have been to get Trump elected .

Trading Themes--
  • Markets continue to gingerly probe the lows in EURUSD before backing off. This should continue until it stops working. For now the markets will be trading mostly off data were collected before the Trump presidential victory last week. At that time the economy was already showing some signs of an improvement. U.S. equities continue to put in a positive performance.

  • The Trump administration will not be installed for another two months. His inauguration is on January 20, 2017. At this point though we still know little about who will be in his cabinet.

  • Odds strongly favor a Fed hike rate hike on December 14. I feel also they will speed up the expected pace of interest rate hikes in the new year. The central bank happily happily follow the lead of the "bond vigilantes". Fed Chair Yellen testifies before a joint Congressional committee on the economy Thursday.

  • Markets are expecting a strong fiscal stimulus from the new administration in the way of infrastructure spending, lower taxes, increased energy production and a reduction in government red tape. Increased economic growth is expected to lead to rising stock prices, higher interest rates and a stronger USD.

Crazy policies by central banks have been hurting economic growth for years . Trump is going to cut the power of the FED and that is great for the US economy .

Interest rates should be set by the markets and not by financial aparatski in Frankfurt and Washington .

as for cable i think 127-12850 poss. it needs to clear out the heavy short positioning as finding it difficult in breaking and holding downside until it does. i think a test of prev low 128 would do the trick, a day where we may sart 12650-127 go to 128-12850 and back down to 12650-127 by close. needs a good clearout as too many short possies as opposed to a year ago where nobody wanted to know.

just watch close into hour here. bonds bounced off 2.275. fx maybe hold ranges for now. need to see bond yield take high for 107 break on euro and 110 test for yen. moving below 10925/30 would argue for some consolidation.

A good trading system is defined as ?? profitable...makes more than it loses...consistent... I am sure many of you could elaborate but every time I see what amounts to personal attacks on the FF I ask myself why discuss personalities. If you think that someone appears to be consistently on what appears to be the wrong side of the market consider many things. Maybe their time horizon is different from yours. Maybe their risk parameters are different from yours but most importantly why not just take the opposite side.
After all a bad trading system if turned on its head becomes a good trading system

Forex Forum

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Forex Brokers

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs. You can look on the forex forum for updates when one of the fx trading tools is updated.

FX Trading

Global-View also offers a full fx trading chart gallery that includes fx pairs, such as the EURUSD, commodities, stocks and bonds. In a fx trading world where markets are integrated, the chart gallery is a valuable trading tool. Look for updates on the Forex Forum when the chart gallery is updated.

Forex Blog

Global-View.com also offers a forex blog, where articles of interest for currency trading are posted throughout the day. The forex blog articles come from outside sources, including forex brokers research as well as from the professionals at Global-View.com. This forex blog includes the Daily Forex View, Market Chatter and technical forex blog updates. In additional to its real time forex forum, there are also Member Forums available for more in depth forex trading discussions.
