- As we noted early Tuesday, forex markets are consolidating recent USD gains into the U.S. Thanksgiving break. The headline U.S. economic number was Existing Homes Sales, which is the most significant of the numerous housing statistics. They came in much stronger than expected.
- Wednesday is another key session. It features flash global PMIs and the latest Fed Policy Minutes among several other items.
- The FOMC policy Minutes are key after Fed Chair Yellen sent a signal in testimony last week that the FOMC will be hiking its Fed Funds target by 25bps on December 14. Fed funds futures have priced the odds of a rate hike at that meeting as near certain.
- The Obama Administration remains in its lame duck status, but might have to deal with a sharply rising USD should it start to advance at a faster pace.
- Markets continue to expect the new Trump government to act aggressively to stimulate future growth soon after he comes to power on January 20. Accordingly, yields on fixed income instruments have been marked higher.

i would add mkt is v complacent on dwnside for euro. there is v little option activity below 105 while we have barriers at 105 10550 and over next couple of days a few yards ex at 106-10650. mt expecting euro to be at bottom of nearterm range which suggests if 104-105 broken it will tank in same way that yen was chased over 105/106 as there wasnt much cover higher either.

GBP/USD - 1.2472... Despite cable's marginal break of yesterday's high at 1.2513 to 1.2514 in Asia, lack of follow-through buying triggered profit-taking and price retreated sharply to 1.2465 at European open and continues to remain under pressure in European morning due partly to cross-selling of sterling especially vs euro.
Bids are now lowered to 1.2440/50 and more below at 1.2420/30 with stops building up above there whilst initial offers are noted at 1.2520/30, suggesting further choppy trading would be seen ahead of New York open.

As noted in our meeting, Thanksgiving week is not one where you generally see large new positioning, leaving those with positions at the mercy of thin liquidity.
EURUSD did break a 10 day string of consecutive lower closes. If it is to correct, as I noted earlier, 1.0650 (stops?) followed by 1.0665 would have to be taken out. Perhaps just wishful thinking to give better levels to sell but can't ignore the risk. If 1.0650 holds again then upside is capped.
