Late in N.Y., U.S. equity markets are ending lower. The best explanation is likely more end of year position squaring. The 10-yr yield is ending the year at 2.459%. In forex trade, the EUR is mixed on its crosses while the USD is mixed on the day.

Spikes knock out a lot of stops and then the prior trend reasserts unless a fundamental change occurred -- look at a chart first the LT bears (w/untouched stops) will add positions and the ST bull stops will get taken // Over a 48 hr period you had a low and a Spike High and now the EUR/USD is resting on the 21 dma -- parity not magical attraction but seems the Stops above have been eaten and lower is the path of least resistance

Asian flash surge takes euro to $1.07 -- Reuters.com
Reply
"A short-lived spike in the euro dominated this year's last day of trade in major foreign exchange markets on Friday, with dealers citing a handful of orders as driving the dollar to its lowest since Dec. 8. The euro surged to as high as $1.07 on the move, two full cents higher, before retreating to $1.0543, still up 0.4 percent on the day.

The yo-yo nature of that trade prompted analysts to draw parallels with the "flash crash" in October which briefly knocked almost 10 percent off the value of Britain's pound..."

Amazing Trader EURUSD charts updated on your systems

Trading based on "conventional wisdom" has increasingly become a strategy to be avoided. Financial markets have always reacted very quickly to new information, but I believe universal electronic trading has dramatically shortened the half-life of "ideas". So the strategy of buying USD (selling EURUSD) after the Christmas break into the new year had run its course by the middle of this week. Watching the markets yesterday, the Amazing Trader lines were highlighting the risk of a run at the 1.0500 line and it finally happened after the N.Y. close when markets had thinned.

For today, the HOD has been 1.0662 according to my sources, but I have seen highs all the way to 1.0670. The LOD, if it matters, is 1.0483 from before the spike. I am using 1.0600 and 1.0550 as guideposts until new support and resistance levels are developed. The EURUSD 20-day moving average is now BELOW the market at 1.0522. Early price action today has already cleared out the nearby resting stops. Keep tuned to the GVI Forum as the session develops for timely updates.

AceTrader Dec 30: Daily Recommendations on Major USD/JPY
Reply
Update Time: 30 Dec 2016 09:12 GMT

USD/JPY - 117.00
The greenback's sharp selloff from yesterday's high at 117.82 and intra-day break of previous support at 116.56 signals the decline from December's 10-1/2 month peak at 118.66 has finally resumed and consolidation with downside bias would be seen for weakness towards 116.13 (previous resistance), then to 115.48 later next week.
However, near term loss of momentum would keep price above 114.83 and yield correction later.

On the upside, only above 117.82 would indicate a temporary low has been made and turn outlook bullish for gain towards 118.24 but 118.43 would remain intact.

Pre-Market Forex Trading Ideas for 30 Dec 2016

Forex Trading Outlook

  • The year is ending with a bang. Thursday had been a quiet session, but after the N.Y. close, relentless demand for the EURUSD finally saw this pair break through solid resistance at 1.0500 and then run to 1.0670 in extremely thin conditions. I suspect there was a Chinese reserve-related connection in all this.

  • This has been a difficult end of year period after the unexpected decline in equity prices on Wednesday. Many short-term equity traders mistakenly had gotten set up for "seasonal end of year equity demand". Conventional wisdom can be dangerous at times.

  • One key feature of trading Thursday was the yield in the 10-yr note breaking below the 2.50% barrier to 2.466%, -4.6bp. It was last 2.479%, -0.2bp.

Bitcoin is going to visit $1,000 again

@haifa
racing back the year 2009, Satoshi Nakamoto of Japan introduced the new currency, bitcoin. The basic concept of this eventual popular digital currency is that people can pay for their commercial transactions without a middleman or a third party broker like banks.

This first decentralized payment network is known to be a prominent triple entry bookkeeping system, commonly regard by its users as the World Wide Ledger.

If you first hear this system, it really sounds a lot complicated as no exact definition can fully encapsulate it. To understand it using an analogy, bitcoin works like sending a gold coin through an email.

In order to own a bitcoin, people have to install first a “bitcoin wallet” app on their phone or computer. This will allow them to participate in the buying and selling activities in the bitcoin exchange.

When a specific user pay for something or get paid with bit coin, their transaction is recorded in a ledger. Computers will confirm the transaction in a process called mining, where they compete by solving extremely complex math equations.
