The U.S. does not care about the weak USD per se. The concern is that the strong dollar encourages capital inflows and the weak dollar does not. The U.S.fund growth with offshore capital inflows. Those capital inflows have stopped. And there is the problem. The sell off in the USD suggests the situation may deteriorate. If we have capital flight from the USD then the economic situation will rapidly deteriorate in the States.

This has just started. Stop up your ears to the 'narrative' that all is well. All is not well. 'They' can talk about economic recovery all they like but it's not happening. The previous economic world order is over. We are in the process of building another one. In times like that you don't play the ranges you make strategic decisions. China made their decision some time ago when they moved to set up bilateral exchanges for their currency everywhere that mattered. In addition China, like Russia, moved to buy GOLD in huge quantities. These are preparations for a fundamental shift. And they are serious. The USD is not a safe haven. It is a risk.

Does that mean Shell knows oil price would drop further. I think current oil rise is just short covering. Imagine all these sellers for a very long time, they need to buy oil to cover positions. Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc... Can you imagine those countries agree on something? Even if they agree in a meeting, they would sell oil in black market to make more cash. They all need cash so bad. All major OPEC countries are controlled by a single person. Add to that Russia (non-OPEC member). And each person is waiting for the other to blink first. They are desperate to hurt each other. And they need immediate cash. No doubt in my mind, oil is down for a while.
The only question is, how far the short covering would last. The other question, how low would it go? Could we see $18? $15?

HOUSTON - The CEO of Shell early Thursday confirmed there will be 10,000 layoffs as the company merges with BG Group and deals with lower oil prices.
"The completion of the BG transaction, which we are expecting in a matter of weeks, marks the start of a new chapter in Shell, rejuvenating the company, and improving shareholder returns," CEO Ben Van Beurden stated in a press release. "As we have previously indicated, this will include a reduction of some 10,000 staff and direct contractor positions in 2015-16 across both companies."
The announcement comes after the company reported a 44 percent drop in Q4 earnings.
It's not clear which areas will be affected by the layoffs. Royal Dutch Shell is incorporated in the U.K. and has its headquarters in the Netherlands.

Shares of ConocoPhillips (COP) fell 4% Thursday after the company missed fourth-quarter profit expectations and lowered its dividend. The company reported a net loss of $3.5 billion , or a loss of $2.78 per share, wider than a net loss of $39 million , or a loss of 3 cents per share, in the year-earlier period.
"While we dont know how far commodity prices will fall, or the duration of the downturn, we believe its prudent to plan for lower prices for a longer period of time."

Oil-field service company Weatherford International PLC(WFT) said Wednesday that it planned to continuing cutting jobs in the face of the sector's lingering downturn and would slash about 15% of its already reduced workforce.
Weatherford, one of the largest oil-field service companies in the world, said it would eliminate 6,000 position from a workforce of about 39,500. The cuts are slated to be made in the first half of 2016. In 2015, the company reduced its headcount by 14,000.
"We have just completed what is probably the most challenging year in our history," said Bernard J. Duroc-Danner , CEO of the company."

Recent developments reinforce the case for watchful waiting, Ms. Brainard said Monday in response to questions from The Wall Street Journal.
Stresses in emerging markets including China and slow growth in developed economies could spill over to the U.S., she said. This translates into weaker exports, business investment, and manufacturing in the United States, slower progress on hitting the inflation target, and financial tightening through the exchange rate and rising risk spreads on financial assets.

The greenback's sharp selloff to as low as 117.06 yesterday on dollar-negative comments from New York Fed President William Dudley confirms recent upmove has formed a temporary top at last Friday's 1-month peak at 121.70 and consolidation with downside bias would be seen for weakness towards 116.69/70.,
However, over sold condition would prevent steep fall below there and reckon price would hold well above support at 115.97.
On the upside, only above 119.01 would indicate aforesaid correction has ended and turn outlook bullish for stronger gain to 119.40/50.

The causes of too low inflation

https://www.ecb.europa.eu/press/key/date/2016/html/sp160204.en.html
Mario Draghi in summarise
There are forces in the global economy today that are conspiring to hold inflation down. Those forces might cause inflation to return more slowly to our objective. But there is no reason why they should lead to a permanently lower inflation rate.
What matters is that central banks act within their mandates to fulfill their mandates. In the euro area, that might create different challenges than it does in other jurisdictions. But those challenges can be mitigated. They do not justify inaction.
-
ONLY a Central Banker character does not understand what every other type of person IN THE WORLD does about low and lower prices
It is disingenuous of Mario to not address directly in public what a is purely a bankers' problem: runaway debt and interest outpacing indebted folks cash-flow.
Trade-wise Mario's yak did not add any new element.
Maybe it is market players' time to increase the heat under Marios donkey to spur him to act .

One number we overlooked yesterday was the 200-day moving average in EURUSD at around the 1.1050 area depending on what data source you use. Spot forex traders do not tend to focus on the 200-day average much, but it is a favorite of longer term equity type traders.
For those in the "crowded" long term higher USD trade, taking out that level was a GAME CHANGER yesterday afternoon in NY, and thus triggered a number of stops. Our momentum table below now shows EURUSD as a "buy". We use this rating as a bias indicator, not as a trade signal.

Types of Candlestick Indicator Patterns
Reply
Trading in the forex market has use of various trading indicators and chart patterns. One of the most famous patterns out of these is the Candlestick pattern. To define this term simply, it consists of a top reversal pattern formed by three candle lines on a Japanese candlestick chart. The first is a tall and white cylindrical or rectangular body, while the second is a smaller body (white or black) that lies just above the first body to make a star, and the third is a black candlestick that stands close to the first body. The candlestick chart patterns include a broad cross section of several different kinds of charts. Below is a list of some of the most usually traded candlestick chart patterns:
Doji Indicator: Doji indicator pattern always signals indecision prevailing in the market, accompanied by range-bound market action. A lot of times, a Doji pattern is also seen as a catalyst which triggers potential reversal in the foreign exchange market.
Hammer-Shooting Star Indicator: This pattern of Hammer is seen at the bottom of bearish markets, while the Shooting Star stays at the top of bull markets.
Engulfing Indicator: The Engulfing pattern has two main candles. On the one hand, the white one overtakes the black one in case the charts are displaying a bullish trend. On the other hand, the opposite happens (Black engulfing white) in case the sign is bearish.
Piercing -Dark Cloud Cover Indicator: This pair of patterns is used to sense any potential price or other reversal taking place in the market. Like the other formations, this one too involves a pair of candles to indicate the actual trend present in the FX market. If you see a bullish formation, then it would mean that the sellers are in control. On the second day, the candle which closes id-way of the range achieved on Day One, will indicates securities being sold or bought short, and the initiation of a huge buying off spree. The bearish candle pattern, like every other formation before this one, shows the exact opposite, i.e., a selling spree. It (bearish pattern) is also known as the dark cloud cover. For the second one, the sellers take control on Day 2.
Harami Indicator: The Harami indicator is useful when it comes to indicating swing in market sentiment. If you see the Harami during a bullish time period, it means youre seeing a long black candle followed by a short white one, which means the presence of positive sentiment in the market. In case the market is bearish, the opposite would happen, i.e., a long white candle would be seen which is followed by a shorter, black coloured one.

EUR/USD - ....... The single currency was also supported yesterday from an increase in EU retail sales. Euro zone retail trade increased in December mostly thanks to Christmas shopping of food, drinks and tobacco, the European Union statistics office Eurostat estimated on Wednesday.
Sales in the 19 countries sharing the euro grew on average 0.3% in December on a monthly basis, as expected by economists polled by Reuters.
Retail trade increased 1.4% year-on-year, slightly less than the forecast 1.5%.
Eurostat revised upwards both monthly and yearly estimates for the month of November. Month-on-month euro zone sales have been flat in November, contrary to previous estimates of a 0.3% drop. Year-on-year sales recorded in November a 1.6% rise, more than the previously estimated 1.4%.
The greenback tumbled against majority of its peers yesterday as New York Fed President William warned of tightening financial conditions.
Reuters reported, in an interview with MNI, Williams said financial conditions have tightened considerably in the weeks since the U.S. Federal Reserve raised interest rates and monetary policy makers will have to take that into consideration should that phenomenon persist
