what really suprises me today is that this speech didn't appear to have any effect on the rally, or on gold. It's almost as if he was dismissed for what reason I can't figure. If Fisher or Dudley or Brainard or any other FRBanker said these things ......
I mean Dudley blinks wrong at a question and the market takesoff or tanks. He grunts....
Ben Bernanke was in the audience. During the Q&A Ben asked a question.

corporates aren't rising because they are ultimately tied to the stock price and the stock price is supported by the corporations borrowing to buy back their stock and distributing dividends. so in a stock sell off why wud you buy a corporate bond for protection...the corp will soon be issuing more of its bonds, since the stock is down it certainly can't issue more stock

PAR this is the experience of Japan. As rates fell to record lows credit for the little guy became increasingly hard to find. Low rates in the end benefitted only the government and big corporations, who both had access to bond markets. I see no reason why we won't see the same thing in Europe. As a result in Japan property prices started to fall and the whole process - and the economy - has stagnated for decades. If Japan is the dry run.... well gonna be fantastic here. :-)

its time to bet against gold as bullions rally to the highest in a year isnt justified, backing the bearish call with a comment from a former U.S. leader in a report that was issued, appropriately enough, on Presidents Day.
Gold will slump to $1,100 an ounce in three months and $1,000 an ounce in 12 months, analysts including Jeffrey Currie and Max Layton wrote in the report that was dated Feb. 15 and received on Tuesday. It was headlined with a remark from former President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Theres nothing to fear but fear itself, the analysts entitled the seven-page note, channeling comments from Roosevelts 1933 inauguration when the U.S. economy was being ravaged by the Great Depression. Its time to sell the fear barometer, the bank said, and recommended shorting gold.

EUR/USD - 1.1176
Although euro's selloff below last Friday's 1.1214 low (now res) and then break of 1.1161 sup to as low as 1.1128 in Monday's holiday-thinned North American session following dovish comments by ECB President Draghi before the European Parliament confirms medium-term uptrend has made a temporary top at last Thursday's 3-1/2 month peak at 1.1377, loss of momentum should prevent steep fall today and reckon sup at 1.1086 would contain weakness and bring strong rebound later today or tomorrow.
On the upside, a daily close above 1.1214 would signal at least the 1st leg of correction from 1.1377 has ended, then stronger gain twards 1.1265/75 would follow later this week.

DJ China Jan New Yuan Loans Hit Monthly Record High
15-Feb-2016
BEIJING--Chinese financial institutions issued 2.51 trillion yuan ($385.5 billion) worth of new yuan loans in January, the highest monthly level on record, data from the People's Bank of China showed Tuesday.
The new credit figure was up significantly from the 597.8 billion yuan recorded in December and was also above the 1.9 trillion yuan forecast by The Wall Street Journal's poll of 13 economists.
Total social financing, a broader measurement of credit in the economy, totalled 3.42 trillion yuan in January, up sharply from 1.82 trillion yuan in December.
China's broadest measure of money supply, M2, was up 14.0% at the end of January from a year earlier, higher than the 13.3% rise at the end of December.
The figure was above the median 13.5% increase forecast by the poll of economists.

AUD/USD - ...... Aud rose after release of RBA minutes. Reuters reported Australia's central bank said the pace of economic growth should pick up gradually in the next few years without inflation being a problem, a benign mix that might provide it with the scope to cut interest rates further if needed.
In minutes of its Feb. 2 meeting, where the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) kept the cash rate at a record low 2.0 percent, the central bank reiterated that very low rates and a weaker local dollar were already underpinning growth.
Based on the available data and the forecasts for economic activity and inflation, members judged that it was appropriate to leave the cash rate unchanged at an accommodative setting, the central bank said.
There continued to be evidence that very low interest rates were supporting growth in household consumption and dwelling investment and that the depreciation of the exchange rate was boosting demand for domestic production as it adjusted to the evolving economic outlook.
There was nothing in the minutes to suggest that the central bank has shifted its conditional easing bias. The Board noted that the outlook for continued low inflation may provide scope for easier monetary policy, should that be appropriate to lend further support to demand.
Highlighting the RBA's level-headed approach to things, the Board began their discussion with developments in the domestic economy, while shrugging off the hysteria surrounding the recent turmoil in global financial markets.
The RBA said whether financial market turbulence presaged weaker global and domestic demand remained to be seen, their next meetsing due on March 1.
