euro rally down to folk taking topside protection which is reflected by buying by those at risk on any such upside move. last time many got burnt and altho it will make draghi even more determined to bust thru all expectations, folk will point to the boj and their so far failed experiment with increasing rates further to negative and also the fact the oil is up20% plus with other commos rallying, ecb members against further action will now be able to point to inflation heading up some 3-6 months down the line, so will argue better to wait.

There is no fundamental reason gold should be that high!!

When I look at the showcases of the big stores in HK, one simple fact catches my eyes.

Big pieces of jewelries; Necklaces, bracelets, brooches,....all designed in somehow exaggerated curly rococo style; Flowers Dragon and phoenix...

Who buys, if any those cheap, ugly and disgusting designs?

Yes!!! The market targets wealthy NOUVEAU RICHE Tasteless mainland Chinese.
Those are the only hope of the empty gold stores in HK, because no intelligent woman will ever wear those disgusting pieces.

Ladies in Gentlemen: Gold is in trouble; It is expensive and less popular among women, except those mentioned above, or maybe some kind of tribal ladies in the mountain of India and Afghanistan.

Iron jumps most on record as market goes 'berserk' on China
Reply
Iron ore soared the most ever after Chinese policy makers signalled their willingness to buttress economic growth, boosting the outlook for steel consumption in the top user and igniting speculation that some investors who'd bet against the market had been caught out.
Ore with 62 per cent content delivered to Qingdao jumped 19 per cent to $US63.74 a dry metric ton, Metal Bulletin data show. That's the biggest gain in daily data going back to 2009 and the highest price since June. The surge was preceded in Asia by a rally in futures, with the most-active contract on Singapore Exchange climbing 21 per cent to $US60 and prices on the Dalian Commodity Exchange rising by the daily limit.

Hes also introduced forward guidance on rates, eased refinancing operations, and created an emergency bond-buying plan for stressed economies that has never been used."

Till now nothing has worked . Maybe Draghi is the problem . After 5 years of faillures it is maybe time to try something else .

Negative interest rates are not always being passed on to businesses and consumers, and could ultimately undermine the models of banks, pension funds and insurance companies, the Bank for International Settlements has warned. The BIS, known as the central banks' central bank, says the longer reference rates are set at zero or below, the higher the risk of hitting a "tipping point," where no one benefits. The warning comes as central banks around the world increasingly look to sub-zero short-term rates to stimulate economic activity and fight off deflationary pressures.

USD/JPY - 113.62
Despite the greenback's rally to 114.56 last Tuesday, subsequent sharp retreat to 113.12 last Friday on poor U.S. wage growth data suggests further choppy trading below February's high at 114.88 would continue with mild downside bias and marginal weakness towards 112.80/90 is likely to be seen.
However, as broad-outlook remains consolidative, reckon price would hold well above support at 112.38 and yield rebound.

On the upside, only above 114.56 would revive bullishness for a re-test of 114.88, break would confirm erratic upmove from 110.99 has once again resumed and extend towards 115.30/40.

In Spain, for example, at least one bank has been effectively paying mortgage holders. That is nice for the person with the mortgage but not particularly healthy for a banks bottom line.

Long-term fixed mortgages are a headache for banks when interest rates are going up unexpectedly but they are good when rates are ticking down. Banks with far more fixed-rate mortgage debt can rely on income from mortgages agreed to years or even decades ago.

Though negative-rate policies are designed to drive inflation higher, especially in Southern Europe where it is lowest, it seems that the ECBs action may have the perverse effect of putting much more pressure on the Spanish and Italian banking systems.

Brent at $ 40 starts to look inflation and is another tax on European citizens as are negative interest rates. The ECB always seems to be looking backwards.

Negative rates in an environment of rising prices shows the ECB is not interested in price stability but just wants to reduce rates to help southern European governments fund their gigantic DEBT.

EUR/USD - 1.0993
Although euro's retreat after Friday's rally from 1.0904 to as high as 1.1044 in post-U.S. jobs data New York morning session suggests upmove from last Wednesday's 1-month bottom at 1.0826 has made a temporary top and expect initial consolidation before extending aforesaid rise to 1.1060/68, loss of momentum should cap price below 1.1100/05.

Expect 1.0960/70 to hold and yield such move and only below 1.0904 would signal said correction from 1.0826 over, risk weakness to 1.0848/81 next.

Oil

SINGAPORE Oil prices opened strongly on Monday after rallying in the previous session, as tightening supplies supported the market and sentiment around a market recovery strengthened.

"U.S. shale producers continue to pull rigs from the ground in an effort to conserve capital," ANZ bank said on Monday.

U.S. energy firms last week cut oil rigs for an 11th week in a row to the lowest level since December 2009, data showed on Friday, as producers slashed their drilling rig count to focus on uncompleted wells amid low oil prices.

Drillers removed eight oil rigs in the week ended March 4, bringing the total rig count down to 392, oil services company Baker Hughes Inc said in its closely followed report.

Beyond a tightening supply outlook, ANZ said that a shift in sentiment was also pushing prices as traders shut down short positions that had bet on further falls in prices.

"Short-covering in commodities continues to push prices higher. This week's slew of economic data releases in China, however, will determine if this rally continues," the bank said.
