New Poll: Would a Trump Presidency Be Good or Bad for US Stocks

The question should really be

"will a Trump Presidency end the FEDs manipulation of the Stock market and can we then get back the investing based more on the fundamental worth of a company rather than the company's skill in Financial Engineering using the FEDs Free Money"

RBI Gov Rajan wants global rules of conduct for central banks

Reserve Bank of India governor Raghuram Rajan called on Saturday for global central banks to adopt a system for assessing the wider impact of their actions, including unconventional monetary policies now in use.

Rajan proposed that a group of academics should measure and analyse the "spillover" effects of monetary policies and indicate which should be used and which avoided. He suggested a traffic light system, grading policies green, orange or red.

"We need new rules of the game, enforced impartially by multilateral organisations, to ensure countries adhere to international responsibilities,"

Forex Trading Outlook for the Week Ahead
Reply

Last week I warned about the calm before the next storm and this week the focus will be on the FOMC meeting. While no change is widely expected, attention will be on the statement + press conference for any hints of how many rate hikes are on the table. Typically, the dollar would catch a bid ahead of the meeting but as we have seen lately, it is the reaction after key events that have caught those on the dollar long side. So it will be the reaction to news that gives a clue whether the current bout of dollar weakness has more to run.

The Fed
Reply
Over the past 20 years the backroom economists have been promoted to the Policy Making Table -- their training is to be advisors, academics and statisticians BUT most lack the rigorous decision making experience that Financial Markets inflict

The genuflecting to the proven incompetence continues :

..."Fed Vice Chairman Stanley Fischer, 72, with an illustrious career in public service and academia, is among the world’s most respected economists. Speaking of six years of Fed efforts to stimulate the economy through quantitative easing or asset purchases, Fischer conceded that it is not yet possible to fully evaluate the effects. Similarly he said that in the current economic environment it is not possible to know the equilibrium level of interest rates.".../..

Who anyone - and Wood in particular - would peddle Stanley "among the world’s most respected economists" with his record is, to me, a mystery.

All I can do is try to handicap player infatuation with these demigawds.

JP- the Fed issues a statement in January of long range policy goals (the basis for its data dependent mantra) and monetary policy -- back in Jan 2013 the policy employment figure was a range of 5.2 to 6% (and 6.5% was the figure used in the meeting Statements), in Jan 2015 the range was 5.2% to 5.5%, this year the employment figure isn't a range it is 4.9% (funny how it happens to be the exact figure - so here we are) -- keep moving the target

Inflation target has consistently been 2% with concern if PCE was above or below (symmetric in Fedspeak) - for the last 2 years oil has been the sole driver of this policy

In essence there is no "future guidance" because the target changes with the Data - of course, if you know the price of oil and the unemployment rate six months hence you should be perfectly able to predict monetary policy -- unless, of course the Targets move AGAIN

Livingston nh 20:25 GMT March 10, 2016 - Pretty obvious that the Fed has even less credibility than the ECB or BoJ

see gv propagating and peddling the notion that the FED still has credibility w/players: "markets will be hoping for future policy guidance" (Blog 13:11)Blog 13:11

they just have not been hurt enough to have learnt not to pay attention to " future policy guidance" and continue to hope and to genuflect.

hope springs eternal
