So far the EM currencies have not breached the lows from the presser - the USD/IDR is higher and TWD traded wide but settled well off the lows of two weeks ago // tonight's Asian trading may change this

today's speech reinforces the last meeting statement - we'll see by the time the wheel turns back to us whether the earlier lows hold // risk is doom and gloom scenario may scare some markets

  • Fed Chair Yellen did not disappoint those of us expecting her to generate price instability on Tuesday. She took a more dovish posture than expected, saying that inflation expectations have been less than expected and global growth has been disappointing. Fed "Policy normalization" has been postponed until "economic headwinds" diminish.
  • It is notable that Yellen offered nothing to the "hawks" who last week brought up the possibility of a rate hike as ealy as in April. I heard nothing from her that suggests that a rate hike is even in consideration for as early as June. I would take this as a rebuke if I were them.
  • Global markets appear to be dumbfounded by Yellen's speech. Equities like the prospect of an accomodative policy, Fed Funds futures cut the odds for one rate hike this year to 82%, bond yields have fallen and the UsD has weakened. The back half of the week sees a number of U.S. data releases, including the key monthly employment report. Australia and New Zealand clocks "fall back" this weekend.

you need to forget euro/stocks for a while. mkt focuses on what is new until bored and something else comes along. ecb easing force seems to be fading while yellen is trying to raise rates while mkt isnt looking, that way dollar suffers but she get her normal eventually. mkt slowly waking up to this and so its being priced in bit by bit. we can get towards 115 in april then other issues likely to take over/mkt gets bored.
yen might be a good long 11220/40 into nfp stop under fig. its an honest enough trade, you could do worse.
i refer back to euro/yen end of day straddles. todays action shows why its always worth taking on when premiums are so small as today 20/25 pips. option straddles are a long game of patience, the trick is to buy when the price is right, as you can never know when and how something will move on an on going basis. you leave that to the law of averages.

DJ Bond Traders See Something New in Fed Mandate -- Market Talk

14:18 ET - Time to update your playbook on Fed? Yellen's reiteration of global factors in shaping Fed policy is "very dramatic" and deviates from the traditional mandates involving US jobs and inflation, says Brian Edmonds, head of interest rates at Cantor Fitzgerald. "I guess this is a new world we are living in." Many bond traders have been confounded by stubbornly low US yields given the strong domestic labor market and an uptick on inflation lately. Edmonds wonders why the Fed raised rates in December especially if Yellen expects US growth to be muddling along. But bulls welcome the Fed's cautious stance given US divergence with overseas central banks, which has contributed to swings in markets and rattled the EM growth outlook. The 10-year yield is at 1.826%, versus 1.87% Monday. ([email protected]; @minzengwsj)

When we started Global-View around 19 years ago our motto was "we Produce Trading Ideas." While this is still our motto, our forums have evolved and we would like to get back to basics.

We have always encouraged all types of posts as you never know when something someone posts will be a missing piece to your puzzle. It may not fit mine but it may fit yours.

However, the balance seems to have tipped more towards posts with no trading conclusion and we would like to bring that into balance.

What I mean by this is to add a market implication to your posts. It could be a trading idea or just what it means to the market (e.g. bearish for the dollar, bullish for the EUR, etc).

So think in terms of trading when you post and help us get back to our motto of We Produce Trading Ideas.

Prominent Hedge Fund Luxor Capital Warns Redeeming Investors Will Be "Gated" After Sharp Losses

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/29/2016 - 08:09

About a decade ago, Christian Leone's Luxor Capital was one of the biggest brand names in the industry, and alongside Harbinger and DB Zwirn, every trader and analyst on Wall Street wanted to work there. Since then things have changed. According to Reuters, Luxor, which had $3.8 billion under management at last check, "has been losing money for months" and on Monday it surprised investors when it announced it would "not be returning exiting investors cash in full, keeping a portion locked up until some illiquid investments can be sold."

My personal opinion about Yellen today..

I would put the odds at 90% that Yellen will repeat that rate rises will be "gradual" with no specifics. She should say that every meeting is "live" without losing flexibility. Her goal will be not to get pinned down to any future policy path.

She will NOT back away from her comments made less that two weeks ago. I see nothing positive for the USD in this.

There is always the hope that Yellen is starting to implode - she shied away from Jackson Hole, she gave a Wikipedia presentation on inflation and NOW in front of her peers she is going to attempt a monetary policy explanation for her (and fellow FOMC mopes) last public performance

I repeat "Fed policy is being made up as they move along" -- There is no plan B - Yellen's pet theory like most economic theory only works sometimes (and even then may have causality problems) SO she is stumbling along

Her pay grade is well above her competence to task level --
maybe today the curtain gets pulled back

  • We have declared a "Financial Tsunami Watch" for Fed Chair Yellen's speech today on the U.S. economy. Yellen and the ECB's Draghi have become the greatest source of forex instability as they send inconsistent signals about the future course of their policies. I am not predicting a strong market reaction to her comments, but there is always a risk of such a response whenever she appears due to conflicting messages.

USD/JPY - ..... Dlr moves sideways in quiet Asian trading after clocking up 7 days of consecutive gains on Monday. Despite climbing to a fresh 1-week high of 113.69 in holiday-thinned Asian morning yesterday, price briefly dropped to 113.15 in New York morning on soft U.S. PCE data as the lower-than-expected reading quickly led U.S. economists cut their forecast on U.S. Q1 GDP growth.

Looks like range trading below said yesterday's temporary top would continue in Asian morning, however, as dlr is still in trending mode, buying the pair on dips is still the favoured strategy.
Bids are noted at 113.25-15 and more below with stops touted below 112.90, offers are tipped at 113.65/75 and more above with stop reported Book value-bv 114.00.

Forex Forum

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Forex Brokers

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs. You can look on the forex forum for updates when one of the fx trading tools is updated.
