we may get to Chaos earlier than I thought -- watch Yellen effect -- we may take that one out tomorrow (SPX2035) and below 2030 takes out the whole day// I have said that if the fed doesn't hike bad things will happen -- Yellen has screwed up the markets and has created her own justification for uncertainty

ATLANTA Fed is a nice try but most of the March data is yet to come in (just look back to last March for reference) - Holidays were early, weather in most parts was good, NFP employment was OK and ISM reports labor in short supply and up in price // in fact, if Yellen hadn't pulled a Humpty Dumpty on meaning of data, market would have seen these reports for what they are

DJ Atlanta Fed's 'GDP Now' Predicts Just 0.4% First Quarter Growth -- Barron's Blog

By Amey Stone

The Atlanta Federal Reserve's tool for forecasting first quarter gross domestic product fell to a new low this week, registering potential for just a 0.4% gain, based on the latest crop of economic releases.

That's well below the consensus of economist opinion, which predicts growth for the current quarter between roughly 1.4% and 2.4%.

GDP Now dropped from 0.7% to 0.4% on Monday thanks to declines in the forecasts for consumer spending growth and equipment investment growth. Tuesday's trade figures didn't change the result.

The Q1 GDPNow estimate was as high as 2.3% in mid-March, but has been falling with almost every release.

The U.S. economy grew at at 2% rate in the third quarter and a 1.4% rate in the fourth quarter, according to the Department of Commerce's final estimate released on March 25.

The advance estimate for the first quarter won't be out until April 28. The long delay is the reason why the GDPNow tool was created.

I agree with your call but the timing was the big question mark for me. So now is the day... it's certainly working out. How 'they' cope with this will certainly be interesting. We have the 'bail in' clauses all set up, monetary policy will be a dud, fiscal policy also... except for the 'confiscation' idea... which is coming IMVHO. Gonna be interesting, that's for sure. Moments ago the US Treasury priced its 4 Week Bill auction, which was unique in that at just $35 billion, was not only $10 billion lower than a month ago, but was the lowest since October 15.

This may or may not explain why after last week's curious auction yield of 0.20%, or 5 bps below the effective Fed Funds floor, today's auction showed an even more dramatic scramble for short term liquidity, when the government sold 4 Week Bills at a rate of 0.185%, or 6.5 bps below the rate charged by the Fed!

Clearly some correlation algo in the market did not expect this because the moment the auction results were released, the USDJPY snapped lower to fresh 14 months lows, just above 110, from where it is only downhill.

GBPAUD lower edge of my longer term channel is now at 1,85, after that I would expect it to go up - GBPUSD gaining more than AUDUSD or GBP losing less than AUD.

The World’s Favorite New Tax Haven Is the United States

Moving money out of the usual offshore secrecy havens and into the U.S. is a brisk new business.

Last September, at a law firm overlooking San Francisco Bay, Andrew Penney, a managing director at Rothschild & Co., gave a talk on how the world’s wealthy elite can avoid paying taxes.

His message was clear: You can help your clients move their fortunes to the United States, free of taxes and hidden from their governments.

Some are calling it the new Switzerland.

German Factory Orders Unexpectedly Fall on Exports Slowdown

"The ministry’s report showed that export orders fell 2.7 percent in February, led by a 3.7 percent slump in orders from the rest of the euro area. Orders for investment goods declined 2.1 percent and those for consumer goods dropped 7.3 percent. Domestic orders gained 0.9 percent."

“Orders in the manufacturing sector developed slowly at the beginning of the year,” the ministry said in a press release. “This reflects the sluggish development of the global economy.”

ASIC launches action against Westpac over BBSW
Reply
The corporate watchdog has launched legal action against Westpac Banking Corporation over the alleged rigging of the bank bill swap rate which has embroiled one of the bank's senior staffers and again shone a light on the toxic culture of trading floors in Australia.

Westpac managing director group treasury Colin Roden is named in court documents as being involved in allegedly conspiring to rig the rates to the benefit of the banking giant. Another banker, Sophie Johnston, who works alongside Mr Roden in group treasury, is also named in court documents.

Mr Roden and Ms Johnston are both understood to still be working at the bank and Westpac is believed to be standing by its staffers.
The bank bill swap rate or "BBSW" in finance speak is the primary interest rate benchmark used in Australian financial market. It helps banks set the rates for business and commercial loans and is essential to a fair and open market.

ASIC alleges Westpac traded in a manner intended to create an artificial price for bank bills on 16 occasions during the period of April 6, 2010 and June 6, 2012.

Earlier this year ASIC launched action against ANZ Bank for allegedly rigging the BBSW on 44 days.

Unlike ANZ Bank, Westpac's Treasury function - where the staff in question work - is responsible for funding the bank is in a separate part of the bank from its financial markets business.

ASIC alleges that on these days Westpac had a large number of products which were priced or valued off BBSW and that it traded in the bank bill market with the intention of moving the BBSW higher or lower to maximise its profit or minimise its loss to the detriment of those holding opposite positions to Westpac's.

"Acting through Mr Roden, Westpac bought 30-day Prime Bank Bills with a face value of $1.853 billion in the bank bill market comprising 100 per cent of all purchases of that tenor made through brokers on that day."

"That trading did not constitute engagement in a genuine process of supply and demand in the bank bill market as it was conducted in order to lower the rate at which the BBSW was set on that day as recorded in statements made by Mr Roden to Ms Johnston during a telephone conversation"

According to ASIC, Mr Roden told Ms Johnston: "I know it's completely wrong but f--- it, I might as well, I thought f--- it. We've got so much money on it we just had to do it, right?"

It is understood this conversation occurred on the first day of trading in BBSW after a long weekend, which meant there was a larger amount of volume in the market than usual.

ASIC alleges other conversations between Westpac employees show them rigging the rates and their alleged knowledge of activities of Mr Roden, who is referred to by his colleague as Col.

"Well Col spent a crap load of money yesterday and he sold quite a bit today ... he bought like 2.5 billion dollars's worth of stock for the rate set so..."

ASIC's filing against ANZ also demonstrated colourful language used by bankers. ASIC is also investigating National Australia Bank and the Commonwealth Bank as well over the alleged rigging of the BBSW however the regulator has not launched legal action against either bank.

Westpac chief financial officer Peter King said the bank had fully cooperated with ASIC in its investigation of bank participants and the bank would vigorously defend the action.

"We reject the allegations made by ASIC and do not believe Westpac, or any employee, has acted unlawfully in relation to the instances detailed by ASIC," Mr King.

"We disagree with ASIC's interpretation of the communication between employees referred to in the court documents and their assessment of trading activity given the complexity of strategies involved," Mr King said.

ASIC is seeking penalties and declarations Westpac breached the Corporations Act.

Getting UNAOIL off the Front Page
Reply
"Police moved after Fairfax Media broke the story late on Wednesday that Unaoil and its owners, the Ahsani family, used multi-million dollar commissions to bribe corrupt governments in oil rich states to win contracts for large western firms such as Rolls-Royce, Halliburton and Australia's Leighton Offshore."

A year ago a German paper got the Panama Papers but conveniently did NOT release them till just after the UNAOIL scandal broke. And so the Unaoil scandal is conveniently off the front page.

The UNOIL story

"Zarti was appointed deputy director general of Libya’s sovereign wealth fund, a government-owned entity with $65 billion to spend.

Abram instantly recognised Zarti’s potential usefulness to Unaoil... Abram reported back to Unaoil chief executive Cyrus Ahsani. He said Zarti was in a position to help their Malaysian client, Ranhill, land a massive state-sponsored apartment building project in Libya."

Works every time: when a scandal breaks just come up with a supposedly bigger scandal or headline and done deal.

AceTrader Apr 5: Intra-Day Market Moving News and Views (USD/JPY)

USD/JPY - ...... The Japanese yen gained broadly on Tue in Asia as data on wages suggested improvement (see our previous MMN). The pair came under renewed selling pressure after meeting selling interest at 111.36 ahead of Asian open and then fell below New York support at 111.10 to a session low of 110.86 after the Japan's jobs report.

Although dlr's intra-day weakness in Asia suggests consolidation with downside bias would be seen, as investors are awaiting more clarity on the direction of rates in the U.S. in the release of minutes later this week, sharp decline below Mar's 16-mohth bottom at 110.67 is not likely to be seen and 110.00 (psychological support) should hold on 1st testing.

Today will see the release of U.S. service PMI by Markit and ISM non-manufacturing in New York morning.

At the moment, offers are noted at 111.10-20 and more at 111.30-40 with stops above 111.50, whilst on the downside, bids are reported at 110.70-60 and then at 110.50-30 region with stops below there.

Forex Forum

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Forex Brokers

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs. You can look on the forex forum for updates when one of the fx trading tools is updated.

FX Trading

Global-View also offers a full fx trading chart gallery that includes fx pairs, such as the EURUSD, commodities, stocks and bonds. In a fx trading world where markets are integrated, the chart gallery is a valuable trading tool. Look for updates on the Forex Forum when the chart gallery is updated.
