The Dollar Is Toast

off the charts - really ?
some would claim (and trade) that it is actually oversold

the recent run-up in the dollar is off the charts

The Dollar Is Toast

SYD - I don't know who wrote this but a 30% rally in USD is hardly unprecedented - I agree that the Fed has screwed things up but raising the Twin Deficits as a bogeyman is really last century economics // We may find out over the next year or so whether the US intends on withdrawing from world economics and foreign policy -- electoral college choices don't look too attractive BUT see how many folks are happy w/ a weaker USD in a technological/digital economy

Ya gotta have a Plan B

The dollar has experienced an unprecedented rally of nearly 30% - which is probably over.

The main fundamental drivers of the dollar have historically been interest rate decisions and fear.

Times have changed and the demand sources for the dollar are gone - it's time to get out.

so I tot I d waylay the RBNZ cretins rate release. DUH !
15 seconds to the release I activate my trading robot and it plants a pending short nzdusd order. exactly top of hour price shoots uP - no ticket.

so I try to cancel my robot's pending order. here is what happens next:

I can' t cancel my ticket as a message saying "market is closed" pops up instead.

so I am thinking to self : "weird... my dealer accepted a pending short nzdusd but now that I didn't get a ticket and want to take off the pending ticket getting a message that "market is closed" . wonder if I missed some notice about far east trading hours ?

so I get on the chat and ask the dealer:

Dealer says: "We just had the 5 minute rollover period that occurs each day on our forex pairs, it will show "market is closed" during those five minutes, but trading is open again"

and further comments

"The timing of the RBNZ news release is not a good one for traders as banks around the world are observing rollover and liquidity is not available during that time".

Bottom Line
read the fine print of Market Open Hours.
and take note !

  • The Fed policy decision this Wednesday was to keep rates key steady as broadly expected. Markets took note of the removal of of the reference to global economic events. Some took that as a sign that the risk of a rate hike has increased. No specific guidance for the June meeting, which includes a press conference with the Fed Chair, was forthcoming.

  • The USD traded in a wide range after the announcement but eventually stabilized in range of pre-announcement levels. U.S. quarterly earnings data have been a disappointment.

  • The JPY traded in a volatile range vs. the EUR ahead of the key Bank of Japan meeting Thursday. Odds for additional BOJ ease increased after the recent earthquakes in southern Japan.

  • There has been chatter about a possible RBNZ rate cut later today. The consensus view is for no policy change. A slew of economic data is always due into month-end. The U.S. is still in the midst of its 1Q16 quarterly earnings period.

BREAKING NEWS

Official Cash Rate unchanged at 2.25 percent

Statement by Reserve Bank Governor Graeme Wheeler:

The Reserve Bank today left the Official Cash Rate unchanged at 2.25 percent.

The outlook for global growth has deteriorated over recent months due to weaker growth in China and other emerging markets. Prices for some commodities, including oil, have picked up but remain weak.

Monetary conditions are extremely accommodative internationally, with considerable quantitative easing and negative policy rates in some countries. Financial market volatility has eased in recent weeks, but markets continue to watch closely the policy settings of major central banks.

Domestically, the economy is being supported by strong inward migration, construction activity, tourism, and accommodative monetary policy. Dairy export prices have improved slightly, but are below break-even levels for most farmers.

The exchange rate remains higher than appropriate given New Zealandís low commodity export prices. A lower New Zealand dollar is desirable to boost tradables inflation and assist the tradables sector.

There are some indications that house price inflation in Auckland may be picking up. House prices remain at very high levels and additional housing supply is needed. Housing market pressures are building in some other regions.

There are many uncertainties around the outlook. Internationally, these relate to the prospects for global growth, particularly around China, and the outlook for global financial markets. The main domestic risks relate to weakness in the dairy sector, the decline in inflation expectations, the possibility of continued high net immigration, and pressures in the housing market.

Headline inflation remains low, mostly due to low fuel and other import prices. Annual core inflation remains within the target range. Long-term inflation expectations are well-anchored at 2 percent. However, as we have previously noted, there has been a material decline in shorter-term expectations.

We expect inflation to strengthen as the effects of low oil prices drop out and as capacity pressures gradually build. Monetary policy will continue to be accommodative. Further policy easing may be required to ensure that future average inflation settles near the middle of the target range. We will continue to watch closely the emerging flow of economic data.

Yellen and the rest managed to "confirm" that the "recovery" is underway.

With Trump's seeming shoe-in as the Repub candidate, they(the FED) have a few things to be concerned about IF he goes all the way.

So they have basically "endorsed" HRC as their prefered candidate, as the only one to continue the policies of the Obama Admin and secure Janet Yellen a reappointment.

But hey, the FED is not political...except when they are protecting their Power and their collective necks.

That is such trash though.

Governments in the OECD in general can not afford for rates to go higher because they have all accumulated such massive debts that they would risk a debt spiral if they did. So rates will stay as low as they possibly can so that the governments of this world can keep rolling over their monstrous levels of debt - and even add to it - while savers get no return and get told that prices are NOT going up, even as they are.

This is not about economics or economic policy this is about keeping the whole rotten system from caving in under its own weight.

You know where this is going? Think Japan in the 1990s. Real wage cuts, massive ongoing government spending and debt, extra low interest rates and NO CREDIT for small businesses and ordinary people. That's where this is going.

Australia Aims to Crash the Property Market

These guys are talking about bringing in rule changes which will 'moderate the price of housing' right at the time when the property market is topping out and household debt to income is at record levels, when the mining boom is over and the residential property market is basically keeping the Australian economy ticking over. Now they want to 'do something' about housing prices. Not when they brought in the first home buyer grant and all the other incentives to buy real estate... no, they want to do it now when the risk for the economy is at an absolute peak. As for modelling, give me a break. Econometrics is pseudo science at its worst and produces pseudo evidence which is no evidence at all. But hey let's do this. What's the worst that can happen? A property market crash and economic crisis? No problem. Australia hasn't had a recession for decades. What's the term? The recession Australia had to have. Well one's coming up and it look likely to be a doozy.

Outlook for the Australian economy and the Australian dollar in the medium term: bearish of course.

Crash that market

instead try taking advantage of the rigging

odds are the FED gang is not happy with sooooo few (only less than 25% odds) expressing certainty about June hike. The gang is likely to want to dilute that and get more folks onto the 50-50 uncertainty fence. Afterall the gang lives by folks anxiously waiting for its "guidance". The FED can't loose playrs' reverence to it.

USD/JPY - ...... Dlr rebounded after a brief selloff to 110.67 in European morning yesterday due to renewed broad-based selling in yen on improved risk appetites. Later, price ratcheted higher to 111.47 in o/n New York before retreating to 111.14 shortly after Asian open on Wednesday.

Today, investors should pay attention to the release U.S. Pending home sales and U.S. trade balance for March in New York morning, then the announcement of latest Fed's monetary policy and statement in New York afternoon (18:00GMT and 18:30GMT respectively).
Having said that, the FOMC is expected to leave its benchmark rate unchanged in a range of 0.25% to 0.50% n with virtually no expectations for a rate increase, and no press conference or economic projections, it could be one of the most low-key Fed events.

At present, bids are noted at 111.10-00 and more 110.90-80 with stops below 110.60, whilst offers are reported at 111.30-40 and then 111.60-70 with stops above 111.90.

Forex Forum

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Forex Brokers

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs. You can look on the forex forum for updates when one of the fx trading tools is updated.

FX Trading

Global-View also offers a full fx trading chart gallery that includes fx pairs, such as the EURUSD, commodities, stocks and bonds. In a fx trading world where markets are integrated, the chart gallery is a valuable trading tool. Look for updates on the Forex Forum when the chart gallery is updated.

Forex Blog

Global-View.com also offers a forex blog, where articles of interest for currency trading are posted throughout the day. The forex blog articles come from outside sources, including forex brokers research as well as from the professionals at Global-View.com. This forex blog includes the Daily Forex View, Market Chatter and technical forex blog updates.
