Yesterday, in an impassioned appeal to the hearts and minds of Americans everywhere, Minneapolis Fed Neel Kashkari said that the Fed is "here to serve Main Street" the same main street which currencly has $8.4 trillion in savings accounts currently earning exactly 0% in interest.

Yet it wasn't Main Street but Wall Street that the Fed listened to once again last Wednesday, May 4, when the Fed's Advisory Council which comprises of 12 bankers such as James Gorman, Richard Holbrook, and John Stumpf, advised the Fed on how to conduct future monetary policy.

Wall Street believes that the Fed, which started off the hear with expectations for 4 rate hikes can "enhance credibility" by hiking as "much" as one more time in 2016,.............with the S&P 2% below all time highs, it's best to be on the safe side

This Is What The "Main Street Serving" Fed's Wall Street Advisors Told It To Do About Future Rate Hikes

  • It looked like the EURUSD was trying to break out of its recent trading band. A minor short squeeze in EURUSD Tuesday lifted the pair to around 1.1410, which was a stone wall. We are now just above the 1.1359 LOD. As for U.S. data, the JOLTS Survey and Wholesale Inventories were not market movers. Importantly, the JOLTS data were significantly improved.

  • Another threat of forex intervention by a top Japanese official gave USDJPY a boost in trading. Japan FinMin Aso, said he was not certain forex would be a topic at the upcoming G7 meeting. I can assure you that it will be.

  • March U.K. trade data improved modestly and gave the GBP a boost early. Keep in mind the the U.K. traditionally has had a high "marginal propensity to import", which means the trade deficit worsens as the economy improves, and vice-versa. The Chinese CPI for April remained steady at 2.30% y/y vs. +2.5% in March. Inflation does not appear to be an issue for the PBOC. Growth is always a concern.

  • Late in the day, Canadian Energy Minister Carr said that production was restarting at oil sands mines. The fires in the Alberta oil sands region of Canada persist. Cool weather has given fire fighters an edge. No fundamental lasting impact is seen once they are extinguished.

The debt now totals about 105% of GDP, roughly twice the size of the economy it has been historically. The annual deficits that keep pushing the debt higher have come down during the last several years, as the economy recovers from the recession that ended in 2009. But America still spends about $500 billion more each year than it takes in, meaning the debt will rise indefinitely. If Congress does nothing, at some point the ability to finance Medicare, Social Security and other things the government pays for will deteriorate and perhaps implode.

French PM to force controversial labour reform through parliament

France's government announced Tuesday that it would empower Prime Minister Manuel Valls to bypass parliament and push through controversial labour reforms by decree despite widespread public demonstrations against the bill.

The decision follows weeks of sometimes violent protests against the proposed reform, which among other changes seeks to make hiring and firing easier for companies.

“It’s a heavy-handed way of using the constitution to prevent the nation’s representatives from having their say,” said Laurent Baumel, a rebel Socialist lawmaker, in comments to reporters.

An opinion poll in April found that 58 percent of the French public remain opposed to the labour reforms.

DJ German Data Back Forecasts of Strong 1Q GDP -- Market Talk

0813 GMT Tuesday's industrial output and trade data for Germany back expectations of a pickup in overall economic activity in 1Q, economists say, but they caution that the momentum is unlikely to be maintained in 2Q. "Overall, the German industry and trade data were mixed in March, but that still left 1Q 2016 posting large gains," says JP Morgan economist Greg Fuzesi. "This leaves us comfortable in expecting a solid GDP gain of 2.5%" on an annualized basis. Destatis's 1Q GDP flash estimate, due Friday, for the first time lags Eurostat's estimate of eurozone GDP, already published Aug. 29. DJ Germany's Trade Surplus Hits Record High -- Market Talk

0752 GMT Germany's adjusted trade surplus rises to EUR23.6 billion in March--the highest surplus since records began in August 1990, Destatis says. Germany's exports rise 1.9% in March from the previous month, but imports fall 2.3%. As a result, net exports probably weighed less on GDP growth in 1Q than previously thought, economists say.But Germany's current account surplus--a broad measure of an economy's international financial position--hits a record-high, too. It widens to EUR30.4 billion in March, in unadjusted terms, beating economists' forecasts of EUR25.0 billion. This is the highest current account surplus since records began in 1991. By comparison, Germany's current account surplus was EUR27.0 billion in March 2015. ([email protected])

UBS: The stock market guides the Fed
Reply
UBS argues Fed policy is guided by more than just employment and inflation.

The Federal Reserve's monetary policy is guided by a dual mandate: to achieve maximum employment and stable prices.

So, it can be a bit conspiratorial to suggest that the Fed will react to swings in the stock market.

But according to new research from UBS, the stock market is a bigger driver of the path of monetary policy than changes in payrolls or expectations for prices. They came to this conclusion by observing how various economic and market variables moved with the Fed dots, which represent the Fed's expectation for future interest rates.

"We find that the most significant driver of changes in the Fed dots from one meeting to the next is changes in equity prices," UBS's Daniel Waldman said. "The second half of 2015 is helpful in thinking about the equity-Fed feedback loop. October’s 8% S&P 500 rally was an important driver of the Fed's December hike, though the domestic data wasn't overall better in December than it had been in September."

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.
