good thing the Canadian G7 official was not named... else would be a public donkey's donkyhole as Jacob sees thing differently:

U.S. Treasury Secretary says G-7 nations need to reiterate commitments against exchange-rate devaluations

Jacob Lew warns of risk of currency battles hurting global economy

CURRENT CONDITIONS: Risk-Off at N.Y. Close

IF this month follows Script, then today was bait for more shorts who will be slaughtered during next week's OPEX.

IF is the operative word. IF NOT, then next week will open the door to worseness (yes "worseness" - kind of like "miss-sold" or "bad actor" a highly specialized FiNanCial term) in the MarkIT after the obligatory Memorial Day End of Month Rally. June could be brutal.

Another soft close in S&P but it held the key 2040 level.

"Weak returns are the result of cyclical, not structural, factors"
-
a genius observation: "“People have now woken up and say they don’t want to pay 2-and-20 to underperform some index,” said billionaire hedge fund manager Leon Cooperman, founder of Omega Advisors...

duh ! I give you a million bux, and u charge me minimum 20 thousand to loose money for me and you whine about it ?!

Maybe I have news for you donkeyhole: for the past 15years I have all my friends and colleagues out of mutual funds trading with discount broker. costs $9 per trade and if the account looses money it does it so without your 2% fee.

What is so difficult to understand that charging 2% fee on a looser account is not justifiable by saying "because that is how we charge and that is how it is" .

I could like Roslyn Zhang, a managing director of China’s sovereign wealth fund blasted what she called a “herd mentality” among hedge-fund investors. Including the genouflecting incitement to "Do not Fight The FED" on this forum - which is still not as bad as what the red chinese communists stoop to as they try to protec their stocks bubble from imploding

how - and why - many explanations needed for 10-yr note yield giving 1.70% for 10years besides folk thinking it will yield less yet - and thus the paper go uP in price still and make em look like geniuses ?
folks betting on future relative prices always need a seller and a buyer for it to happen. Is the market weird or perfect when very time one guy sells and another one buys and they both think they’re smart ?

I'm sticking to this scenario I posted much earlier below:

The USD remains in demand as it appears than near-zero and negative interest rates have been spurring demand for U.S. government debt. That is the only way I can explain a 1.72% yield on 10-yr Treasuries. This demand serves as a counterbalance for demand for JPY and EUR as carry trades are unwound.

Pattern is 6 days where 1.14 traded. If the pattern is broken Friday then risk is for a directional move to 1.1310 with potential for 1.1265-70. For this to occur, 1.1365 and 1.1357 => potential stops (suggests 1.1350 as well) would need to be firmly broken. Otherwise, expect more chop.

Re EUR Crosses--

Note heat map colors on EUR crosses about half are RED (weaker). EURGBP is unchanged. All the green is against the commodity currencies (AUD, CAD, NZD).

Divergence ahead of Retail Sales data. I think this is all about the distortions central banks are generating in the capital markets with their futile efforts to generate growth by pushing on strings.

voter Rosengren: the likelihood of Fed rate hikes is higher than market pricing;
voter George: U.S. rates are too low for today’s economic conditions;
voter Mester: U.S. inflation has moved higher as oil prices and the USD stabilize;
voter Yellen: the Fed will adjust policy if outlook changes unexpectedly; added that she expects continued U.S. economic strength

read that again: continued U.S. economic strength

Trading Themes --
  • Equity markets are off to a soft start today. U.S. Retail Sales could be key to trading. They could be a problem for U.S. stocks if they come in weak. My focus is on the 2040 level in the S&P. Below 2040 could start to trigger serious selling with a number of high-profile companies struggling.

  • Equities in general are looking for direction and a story they can go with. Nordstrom reported poor data after disappointments this week from Macy's and Disney. Apple has become a cause for concern as well.

  • The USD remains in demand as it appears than near-zero and negative interest rates have been spurring demand for U.S. government debt. That is the only way I can explain a 1.72% yield on 10-yr Treasuries. This demand serves as a counterbalance for demand for JPY and EUR as carry trades are unwound.

  • With the IEA saying that global oil production is coming back into line with demand, oil prices remain funderpinned. It will still take a couple of years to work down excess supply. Furthermore, higher prices should spur additional production.

AceTrader May 13: Intra-Day Market Moving News and Views (USD/JPY)

USD/JPY - ...... The greenback found renewed buying at 108.74 in early European morning and rallied to session high at 109.40 ahead of New York open as comments from BoJ Gov Kuroda triggered broad-based selling in the yen. However, dlr pared its gains and tumbled to 108.63 in New York morning, weighed by release of poor U.S. jobless claims.
Later, price found support there and rebounded to 109.16 in New York afternoon before retreating again to 108.76 in Tokyo morning.

Mkt attention is now on the release of U.S. retail sales and retail sales ex. auto, especially since a high rise is expected. Street forecasts are 0.8% and 0.5% vs previous readings of -0.4% and 0.1% respectively.
A surprise to the downside would push plans for Fed's rate hikes further down the timeline and send the dlr lower.

Offers are now seen at 109.10/20 and more above at 109.30/40 with stops building up above there whilst initial bids are noted at 108.30/40, suggesting choppy trading with downside bias would be seen.

Forex Forum

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Forex Brokers

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs. You can look on the forex forum for updates when one of the fx trading tools is updated.

FX Trading

Global-View also offers a full fx trading chart gallery that includes fx pairs, such as the EURUSD, commodities, stocks and bonds. In a fx trading world where markets are integrated, the chart gallery is a valuable trading tool. Look for updates on the Forex Forum when the chart gallery is updated.

Forex Blog

Global-View.com also offers a forex blog, where articles of interest for currency trading are posted throughout the day.
