given their nature june will pass without a hike given brexit and also likely a lousy june nfp (a one off likely to be reversed in july). while ahe should hold up in june, the brexit risk should be enough of an excuse for them. july we should see the verizon reverse plus some of the stronger q2 numbers coming thru. brexit is the risk to july but u assume if no brexit then they hike july as mkt are likely to rally strongly on a uk remain vote, another excuse disappears for them.

"It is now clear that June is very much on the table. What is less clear is whether the Fed is just protesting the super-low probability priced into the markets or is setting us up for a June hike. apart from a quick snatch n grab which everyone should always be game for, you arent going to see many keen on selling the weeks low prior with a view to holding. if goes below 200dma you might see some forced selling as folk panic they missed the move, otherwise the bids should hold it up. Most will be looking to fade any backfill early nxt wk but the nfp at end of nxt wk might hamper euro shorts as it may contain some one off job losses to the tune of 20-30k from verizon. i read that there has been a lot of evidence of temp hiring which should keep the main number in check even if the underlyings get tossed about. either way we should continue to use bounces in euro as an op to fade while us rates continue on current path.

The coming week should start out on a quiet note with the US and UK closed on Monday but end with a flurry in a data filled calendar, highlighted by the US jobs report on Friday. See what may lie ahead now that the Fed has put a rate hike back on the table. There is one key level to watch in the EURUSD as I show in my video outlook video.:.

JY- you make an excellent point. It seems to me that many of the news algos are primitive. They don't think. They just react to keywords. Also I have noticed they don't have a memory. With the advent of AI, this will not always be so. We are in what likely will only be a short period of time when we can profit on the naivety of the robots.

Lets work together on this. Its us against the machines.

Given Yellen's propensity for "concern" and the market's failure to move the needle back to 50/50 (been stuck here since initial post Minutes reaction) let's see whether she plays the economics card or financial card for her concern

Powell speech was still yakking about Yellen's labor market "healing" towards full employment (5% is HEALED, pal) and the GDP potential shortfall (they can't even get current projection right and he thinks economists can measure "potential")

A test of Yellen's belief in the financial myth that the Fed can't move against the market expectations versus the risk that the real economy needs rate normalization regardless of GLOBAL disruption

Any of her comments, if any, today are likely to be trial balloons for D-Day -- she never sees the silver lining just the Lightning

DJ U.S. Growth May Look Stronger, Watch Corporate Profits -- Market Talk

1002 GMT The U.S. economy's miserable first quarter may look a little better after Friday's GDP report from the Commerce Department at 1230 GMT. Economists surveyed by WSJ expect the agency will upgrade the first quarter's growth rate to 1.0%, double the initial estimate of 0.5%. But the star of the show may be the government's first official reading on corporate profits during the first three months of 2016 due in the same report. In the fourth quarter of 2015, profits after tax without inventory valuation and capital consumption adjustments fell at an 8.1% quarterly pace, the sharpest decline since the first quarter of 2011. Slow global growth, low energy prices and a strong dollar continued to squeeze corporate earnings into the new year. ([email protected] , @BenLeubsdorf)

HOWEVER, the news algos don't think. They also have no memory. They just react to keywords and unfiltered numbers. I've been wrong numerous times recently saying a number doesn't matter. When thinking humans ran the market, reactions to news were different. Now we have to allow for the reactions of unthinking machines.

USD/JPY - 109.75
Despite dlr's erratic rise from 109.11 (Monday) to 110.45 (Wednesday), yesterday's selloff to 109.42 in Asia signals 'choppy' trading below last Fri's 3-wk peak at 110.59 would continue and below 109.11 would bring retrace. of early rise from 105.55 (May) towards 108.72.

Still favour trading from short side and only above 110.59 extends upmove from 105.55 to 111.10/20 later.

  • Ihe scheduled "discussion" with Fed Chair Yellen at Harvard will be at 17:15 GMT today. The hope had been is that she would clarify the outlook for Fed policy heading into the June and July FOMC meetings, but I doubt this is the kind of venue where she is likely even to discuss policy, but she might. U.S. Fixed Income markets close early ahead of the long weekend, so this might not be an opportune time for a major statement.

  • Yesterday saw another jump in a key U.S. housing statistic. Pending Homes Sales increased by over 5% after we saw a similar jump in New Homes sales earlier in the week. Pending Homes sales tend to be a reliable predictor of Existing Homes Sales. This suggests the economy might be improving.

  • The EURUSD has tested the psychological 1.1200 line again today. EURUSD is firm on what appears to be short-covering into long weekends in the U.K. and U.S. The EUR is mixed on its key crosses.

  • Both Japanese National and Core CPI remain in contraction (-0.30% y/y) as of April. The latest data keep the pressure on the BOJ to take actions to lift the economy out of its persistent deflation.

AceTrader May 27: Intra-Day Market Moving News and Views - USD/JPY

27 May 2016 1:08GMT

USD/JPY - ......Japanese media reported ahead of Tokyo morning that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is considering to delay a sales tax hike, originally planned in April 2017, by around two years. And Abe would likely announce the delay as early as June 1, when the current parliament session closes.

The decision would come in the wake of a Group of Seven (G7) summit, Abe is hosting in western Japan, where he told the leaders the global economy may be on the verge of a financial crisis on the scale of the collapse of Lehman Brothers in 2008.
The postponement by two years would still allow Japan to meet its target of turning the country's budget deficit into a surplus by fiscal 2020, the Yomiuri newspaper said.
Abe has pledged to raise Japan's sales tax to 10 percent from 8 percent in April next year, however, with Japan skirting recession and inflation still anemic, many of his aides have proposed postponing the tax hike to ensure Japan makes a sustained exit from deflation.

The media reported that Abe will shortly convey his idea to Finance Minister Taro Aso and the head of his ruling Liberal Democratic Party's coalition partner.
The Asahi also reported that Abe would forgo calling a snap election of the lower house of parliament, instead focusing on an upper house election already scheduled in July.
There had been some speculation that Abe would call a lower house election to coincide with the upper house election.
