- The U.K. Brexit vote should see a final count before breakfast time Friday in the U.K. Expectations are for a victory for the "Stay" proponents. The big surprise would be for the "Leave" side. A victory for "Leave" would have the greatest impact on the financial markets with a "Stay" victory already priced in.
- I expect a relief rally in equities and the GBP if "Stay" wins, but expect any rebound to be short-lived and driven mainly by an unwinding of hedges taken as protection against a "Leave" outcome. Odds are that markets would return to normal by early next week.
- I don't feel markets are prepared for a "Leave" decision. The GBP would likely fall sharply on that outcome to the mid-1.30's, the FTSE and European stocks would fall and fixed income markets will rally across the globe. It could then take a good while for markets to stabilize afterwards.
- Some analysts were saying the expected last minute swing to the status quo might not be happening. Results are expected very early in the day Friday.
- Friday sees the key June German IFO survey. Belgian Business Sentiment, which tends to be a good predictor of IFo, suggests a good report is likely. Several other pieces of U.S. data are due as well.

The S.E.C. also said Thursday that Merrill Lynch improperly put as much as $58 billion of customer cash daily into accounts that were subject to liens from clearing banks. That money was also at risk had Merrill Lynch failed. The activity ran from 2009 until last year, when the S.E.C. said it notified the bank about the issue.
The rules concerning the safety of customer cash and securities are fundamental protections for investors and impose lines that simply can never be crossed, said Andrew J. Ceresney, the S.E.C.s director of enforcement.
Under the customer protection rule, brokerage firms are supposed to hold customer cash in a reserve account, separate from other firm assets. This is an expensive rule for banks because they cannot use that idle money for other activities
Merrill Lynch created complex options trades that lacked economic substance but had the effect of reducing the amount of money it needed to set aside in the customer reserve account. That freed money for the bank in what amounted to interest-free loans from customer funds.

Thursday Trading
Just looking at the charts. Market optimism that Remain will prevail apparently driving trade. We are unaware of any new polls out.
Talk is the algos have been turned off after the Swiss Franc fiasco. No algos could mean less liquidity.

- The U.K. Brexit vote finally is underway. The first set of results are expected early Friday morning local time in the U.K. Late polls were showing the vote as a dead heat. Its outcome looks to be very close.
- Some analysts were saying the expected last minute swing to the status quo might not be happening. Results are expected very early in the day Friday.
- Global Flash PMI data are being released. Japanese and Eurozone data have been mixed. Friday sees the key German IFO survey for June. Several pieces of U.S. data are due as well.

Polls are telling us nothing clear about this referendum outcome.
Syd-ACC, whilst Newcastle and Sunderland are labour strongholds remember that this isn't a general election. The North East of England suffer from unemployment and the brunt of immigration problems. A lot of influential Labour MP's are in the Leave camp, and scretly I think Corbyn is as well.

Polls are telling us nothing clear about this referendum outcome.
Polls open at 7:00 BST, close at 22:00 BST.
Votes are counted at local authority areas who will declare their own results.
First results likely to come from Newcastle and Sunderland (these areas are traditionally the first to announce results during general elections) at around 1:00 Friday BST. They are also Labour strongholds therefore probably back remaining in the EU.
An early bellwether might be Stirling which is in Scotland. That result is expected at 1:30 am BST, it should also produce a strong remain vote, if not then Brexit might be a strong possibility.
The final results should come in at around 7:00am BST.

Analysts expect the rate-decision meeting to be a non-event, partly because Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, or any other central bank for that matter, will not rock the boat before the Brexit vote, xaud can drop.hear.

USD/JPY - ...... Although increase of risk appetite following news of leading in 'Remain' camp in EU referendum triggered broad-based selling in yen and price rose briefly surged to 104.99 ahead of Asian open, selling interest below Tuesday's high of 105.05 knocked price down to 104.55.
Later, price rebounded to 104.87 and then retreated again following comments from BoJ board member Kiuchi (see our previous MMN).
At the moment, bids are noted at 104.50-40 and then 104.20-10 with stops below 104.00, whilst on the upside, offers are reported at 104.95-105.05 and more at 105.20-30 with stops above there.

Even if the "Vote" is Leave, it's just a Vote.

For all the drama the moment would bring, there would be no instant change.
Instead, the process of decoupling would officially begin only when the British government chooses to invoke a previously unused provision of the blocs governing treaty, known as Article 50, that sets out the basics of the withdrawal process.
The most critical element of Article 50 is that, once invoked, it sets a two-year deadline for a negotiated departure. Beyond that, no one really knows how the process would work, since no country has ever left the European Union.
Moreover, it is up to the British government when to invoke Article 50, and it is not entirely clear whether Prime Minister David Cameron, who has led the campaign to stay, would stick to his stated plan to invoke it immediately if the country votes to leave.
In legal terms, the British government is not even bound by the result of Thursdays referendum, which is generally considered a tossup at this point. In a report for the Constitution Society, Richard Gordon and Rowena Moffat said, The government could, in strict law, choose to ignore it.
If Britain Favors Brexit, Changes Will Come Slowly
