- Thursday started out with a risk-on bias, but reverted to a flight-to-safety trade after following talk of sanctions on Spain and Portugal by the EU in response to missing their budget targets. During the risk-on phase of trading, the yield on U.S. 10-yr Note climbed to 1.42%, but it is ending the day closer to 1.38% as Crude and equity prices fade.
- The June ADP private jobs estimate for June saw a larger than expected gain of +172K. The May ADP did not evemn hint at the weak NFP in that month. Friday sees the monthly employment report. Street estimates are for a surprisingly strong gain of +180K in June.
- On Thursday Theresa May and Andrea Leadsom were selected as the two final contestants for Conservative Party leadership. The winner of the run-off will be the new Prime Minister. This could shape up to be another Brexit-like vote.

During testimony before Congress on Thursday, FBI Director James Comey stated that the FBI’s interview with presumptive Democratic presidential nominee former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was not under oath or recorded, but was careful to point out for all the paeons listening that it still would be a crime to lie to the FBI.
Comey stated that he did not personally interview Clinton, and did not talk to all of the “five or six” who did interview Clinton.
He was then asked, “did she testify or talk to them under oath?” Comey answered, “No.” But added that “it’s still a crime to lie to us.”

Four U.S. investment banks offer support for London after Brexit vote.
Reply
Four U.S. investment banks promised British finance minister George Osborne on Thursday that they would try to help London keep its top spot as a financial center, but gave no commitment on jobs following Britain's vote to leave the European Union.
One banker at the meeting with Osborne told Reuters the banks wanted to see concrete moves to ensure firms based in London would retain access to EU markets, however, because "no one in their right mind" would currently invest in Britain."
Since the June 23 referendum there have been fears of an exodus from the City of London if access to the EU's single market becomes significantly harder. Banks like JPMorgan have said they could move thousands of jobs.
On Thursday JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley, as well as Britain's Asia-focused Standard Chartered said they would try to support London's financial sector.

Yet another take on BREXIT
Can't help but the whole BREXIT saga, far from a shambles, was planned. First, you have the referendum. No particular reason to accept the call for a referendum but Cameron did. There have been calls for a referendum for years, all ignored until now. Then you have all the Tabloids (The Sun etc.) coming out in favour of BREXIT. Boris Johnson also fell into line just in time. And now we have these trade deals being lined up - after the recent visit by Chinese officials. The Murdoch press represents the establishment and now Tony Blair - who supposedly made a cuckold of Rupert Murdoch - is being thrown to the wolves. I just don't think that any of these kind of things happens by accident.
The people caught out are the dullards in Bruxelles.
Now the only thing to work out is: do the powers-that-be in London want a weaker GBP on a permanent basis? Or not?
If the Chinese and the Brits start making deals the other people left out in the cold are the Yanks. All the South China sea show of naval power - yader yader yader - starts to look just a bit anachronistic.

Even Stephen king couldn’t write this stuff -
LONDON, July 7 (IFR) – Is this tragedy turns to farce? Europe now finds itself dealing with national politics pulling away from unity, while, at the same time, confronting a banking crisis where the favoured European solution at present is to apportion loss to creditors. Witness Brexit for the former, albeit among a host of centrifugal forces including the anti-Euro Five Star Movement which is taking over leadership in the polls over current Prime Minister Renzi’s government. And the Italian banking crisis for the latter.
Both crises now appear to be colliding headlong in Slovenia of all places. This comes amid news on Wednesday that Slovenian police raided the Bank of Slovenia and is investigating personnel regarding the country’s banking crisis and resolution of 2013. Computer files of BoS governor Bostjan Jazbec among others have reportedly been seized with respect to the treatment of shareholders and subordinated bond holders in banks resolved at the time. The European Central Bank has naturally complained against infringement upon its authority and asked European President Juncker to intervene on its behalf.

- The flight to safety trade early in the day faded as the session wore on Wednesday. The U.S. 10-yr Note made a new record low level of around 1.33%. Worries about the European banking system nevertheless persist. Todasy sees the June ADP private jobs estimate for June. Friday sees the Monthly employment data. Street estimates are for a surprisingly strong monthly gain of +180K in June.
- Today sees the first round of Conservative Party voting for party leadership with three candidates set to be reduced to two. Those two will be presented to the party as a whole to vote the new party leader (and next Prime Minister) before September.
- The latest Fed Minutes were a disappointment for those expecting a dovish Fed. They only confirmed that the central bank is waiting for the market reaction to the Brexit vote and the next set of U.S. employment data on Friday.
- Swiss June CPI data confirmed that deflation in that economy persists (-0.40% yy, unchanged).
