Hillary Clinton repeated on Friday that she did not realize she was transmitting highly classified government secrets through her private email server while U.S. secretary of state in her first remarks since a federal investigation found this happened at least 110 times.

Clinton, the presumptive Democratic Party's presidential nominee, shifted the blame onto her former colleagues at the State Department, saying in television interviews she followed their lead on whether or not information was classified.

"They, I believe, did not believe they were sending any material that was classified, they were pursuing their responsibilities," she said in an interview with MSNBC.

Who will have to pay ?

But the UK’s annual gross contribution to EU finances amounted to £18.8bn (or €22.2bn at current exchange rates) in 2014, the latest year for which full figures have been published. That is equivalent to 16.5% of the EU’s outgoings of €134.9bn planned for 2017. The EU’s annual payments to the UK in 2014 were £10.4bn (or €12.3bn). Without the UK, then, the EU’s planned outgoings would be reduced, at just over €122bn. But that would still leave a hole of around €10bn in its accounts. The question then is who bears this cost.

Thanks frank. I have no idea if Bitcoin would fit the bill. Anything will work so long as it's not part of the current dominant currency crowd and their related instruments (government bonds etc.). Gold and property, commodities even would be reasonable bets. Best liquid and portable. I know nothing about Bitcoin.

You just have to think about what would happen if the present system falls on its face and take it from there. If it can operate when the system is falling apart then it's a goer. :-)

What a perfect example of double speak that is. My God: "alliance-grappling with Russia's continued assertiveness, heightened terrorism threats and concerns over refugees"....

U.S. installing missiles in North Korea, playing stupid war games in the South China sea and installing the " “Ballistic Missile Defense” or “Anti Ballistic Missile” system... on and near Russia’s borders", for heightened terrorism threats read strategy of tension, as for 'concerns over refugees'... that's a laugh. More than 10 years after the attack on Iraq, which left millions in refugee camps the word is that our friend Soros is helping to traffic these, and other refugees into Europe after leaving them languishing for years.

At any rate that seems to have given the Ruble a boost.

its broken out and poss tgting 75-77. bit of no mans land here as i wouldnt feel confident of downside until below 6650/6600.

fed is supposedly inflation watching so ahe is important. since fx is kill or be killed/zerosum, mkt will use any sub component of data to squeeze headline flash. if nfp is softer but still well over 100k but ahe is 0.2/0.3 then you shud find the euro will pop higher but get sold back dwn to evens and then a little bit lower. similarly if nfp is 175/200k but ahe 0 or negative youll get a dip is euro which will get flipped back to evens. if there is a proper outlier like last month all that goes out the window and you wont get any coming back and shudnt hesitate to join the trend that is going to be built.

Most economists are looking for a strong rebound in the employment figures today. The consensus of latest forecasts appears to be for a jobs increase on the order of about 200K+ jobs. Anything meaningfully short of that level would now be a disappointment.

As the talks drag on, Dutch Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem, who is also chairman of the Eurogroup, told reporters in The Hague that Italian banks were not facing an immediate crisis. “At a certain point, you need to take the losses, take precautionary measures, that will cost money, and the bank, or banks, are going to have to do it,” Dijsselbloem said on Friday.

Italy Intervention on Banks Can’t Be Ruled Out, Visco Says

State intervention to support Italian banks can’t be ruled out, given the risk that current difficulties may undermine trust in the nation’s financial industry, said Bank of Italy Governor Ignazio Visco.

“Given the risk that, in a context of high uncertainty, limited problems could undermine the trust in the banking system, a public intervention cannot be excluded,” Visco said in a speech on Friday at the Italian Banking Association’s annual meeting in Rome.

Visco, who is also a member of the European Central Bank’s Governing Council, said the Bank of Italy was working “together with the other authorities, with determination, to promote efficient market interventions” to support Italian banks.

In contradiction to the despaired voice sending the pound to the abyss, the chart says, possible bullish reversal within days.

So it is Tech. against negative fundamental, which probably all taken into the price.

A declining wedge may forecast a bullish price rise to a minimum level.

With Britain fast forging alternative trade deals with other nations, maybe will support such move.

JP I don't necessarily think there will be a war. There is certainly a build up in military positions - especially on behalf of the Yanks - I don't know if that will lead to anything on the ground. What to buy? What to sell? I think you sell USDs because it looks like the U.S. is increasingly isolated internationally - BREXIT points to that. USD/JPY is heading to 100 - but then it has been heading there for months. That's nothing new. Possibly buy Rubles if you like the odds. The Euro is a funny one. Europhiles and European politicians are - according to Paul Craig Roberts - on the U.S. payroll so the European position looks like a weak one. Swiss Francs? Gold? Yes Gold remains a long term hold. Physical gold that is. After that I don't have any brilliant ideas. I really don't like U.S. Treasuries and Euro denominated government bonds might not be the best place to be. In fact I can't think of a single reason to hold them. You have to hold stuff that is essentially outside 'they system' because 'the system' is breaking down.

Trading Themes --
  • Friday sees the monthly employment report. Street estimates are for a surprisingly strong gain of +180K in June. The June ADP private jobs estimate saw a larger than expected gain of +172K. The May ADP did not even hint at the weak NFP in that month, so take that data with a pinch of salt.

  • Friday is starting out with a mixed risk bias. That tends to be USD neutral. A strong recovery in the June jobs data should be USD positive. The yield on U.S. 10-yr note yield is currently quoted at 1.381%, -0.7bp.

  • Theresa May and Andrea Leadsom were selected as the two final contestants for Conservative Party leadership. The winner of the run-off will become the next Prime Minister. This could shape up to be another Brexit-like vote.

5 Dallas Officers Killed at Protest Against Police Shootings

By PATRICK McGEE, MANNY FERNANDEZ and JONAH ENGEL BROMWICHJULY 7, 2016

DALLAS — Five Dallas police officers were killed and six others were wounded by snipers on Thursday night during a demonstration protesting shootings by officers in Minnesota and Louisiana this week, the Dallas police said.

The police believe four suspects coordinated the attack with rifles, Police Chief David O. Brown said, and positioned themselves in triangulated locations near the end of the route the protesters planned to take. The police had three people in custody and were negotiating in the early-morning hours with a fourth, who was in a garage in downtown Dallas at El Centro, a community college.

Friday 08 July – What data matters most?
Presented by Paul Donovan

• US employment report Friday, when financial markets get excessively animated about an inaccurate number, which is frequently revised, and which (through aggregation) misses some very important nuances of an increasingly divided economy.

• From a policy perspective the employment report has little immediate impact as the Fed has other excuses for delaying tightening. However the trends (rather than the monthly numbers) will give important information on the growing inflation threat in the US.

• Consumer confidence in the UK collapsed in the wake of the referendum result, according to a special GfK survey (the largest fall since 1994, with both "leave" and "remain" voters more pessimistic). This may reflect the role of social media in shaping popular opinion.

• Germany gives asylum numbers today. This is not an economic statistic of course, but it has a bearing on the political environment in Europe, and that political environment has a bearing on policy reactions in many areas, and policy has a bearing on markets.

Paris ib 07:26 GMT July 8, 2016
Seems British politicians are unfazed of the Brexit repercussions.

They are unfazed because a) that was the plan all along and b) this will be positive for Britain in the longer run.

"something has changed during the Obama years. That shift is a growing awareness in both Washington and London of the rise of Asia, which has made both the US and the UK reconsider their approaches to the world — and each other"

Something has shifted

Paris ib 07:22 GMT July 8, 2016
Add one more to cart! Should Britain join the trade agreement, it would be the third largest economy

"Russia and China see both the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as closed structures, which may try to replace the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the future, Sergei Naryshkin, the speaker of the State Duma (Russian lower house of parliament) said on May 5."

Things move on.... the U.S. has been trying to get the TTIP and the TPP signed for years, in secret of course, but it's not going so well for them. These deals are essentially anti-China and anti-Russia deals. Now we have the BREXIT referendum and BREXIT and the U.K. hinting that a U.K. - China trade deal is on the table. What does that tell you? The U.K. just moved on from it's very special relationship with the U.S. That also probably explains the move by S and P to downgrade U.K. sovereign debt so quickly.

Interesting fact: a while back I was looking at the average duration of sovereign debt in the OECD and what really stood out (apart from the fact that the U.S. needs to roll over such a large chunk of debt every year) is that the U.K. has by a huge margin the longest duration. What does that mean? The U.K. can keep calm and carry on EVEN IF its sovereign debt market hits a nasty storm. Someone, somewhere has been planning very carefully.

It still looks to me like BREXIT was not a surprise and that plans have been made for exactly this result. The morons in the media might not have noticed but that don't matter a jot.

Market consequences? Longer term USD bearish of course. Watch USD/JPY. :-)

Barack Obama’s top trade chief Michael Froman said the UK could apply to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a trade agreement between 12 nations including America, Australia, Japan and New Zealand.

This contradicts the threats made by Obama in the run-up to the EU referendum where the US President took to the stage with David Cameron to say Britain would be disadvantaged in trade deals if the UK voted for Brexit.

you'll need to search for the stories, some "press" are avoiding them. For a Full play by play go to CSPAN.org and watch the 4 hours of The Comey Grilling.

Just for a start:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

FBI Director James Comey refused to answer whether the FBI was investigating the Clinton Foundation during his Capitol Hill testimony Thursday.

Congressman Jason Chaffetz asked Comey if the FBI was investigating the Clinton Foundation, to which Comey replied “I’m not going to comment on the existence or nonexistence of any other investigations.”

The Utah congressman followed up with, “Was the Clinton Foundation tied into this investigation?”

Comey quickly responded, “I’m not going to answer that.”

_____________________________________________________
referring to Clinton’s sworn testimony before the House Benghazi Committee from October 2015, Chaffetz asked, “Did you review the documents where Congressman Jim Jordan asked her specifically and she said, quote, ‘There was nothing marked classified on my emails, either sent or received,’ end quote?”

“I don’t remember reviewing that particular testimony,” Comey replied. “I’m aware of that being said, though.”

“Did the FBI investigate her statements under oath on this topic?” Chaffetz asked.

“Not to my knowledge. I don’t think there has been a referral from Congress,” Comey replied.

“Do you need a referral from Congress to investigate her statements under oath?” Chaffetz followed up.

“Sure do,” Comey answered. “You’ll have one. You’ll have one in the next few hours,” Chaffetz said.

UK starts post-Brexit India trade talks
Reply
The UK is launching its first trade mission since the vote to leave the EU, as Business Secretary Sajid Javid meets the Indian government in Delhi.
He will discuss how the trading relationship with India might work with the UK outside the European Union.
The business secretary will also visit the US, China, Japan and South Korea in the coming months.
India is the third biggest foreign investor in the UK, according to UK Trade and Investment.
Total trade between the two countries was £16.55bn last year, the government body said.
Mr Javid said: "There is a strong bilateral trade relationship between our two countries and I am determined that we build on this."
Brexit supporters argue the UK will be able to negotiate better trade deals with fast-growing economies such as India than it currently has as an EU member.
