Trading Themes --
  • Markets were firmly convinced early Thursday that the Bank of England would be cutting their deposit rate by 25bps today following dovish comments immediately after Brexit by BoE Governor Carney. I agree that Carney had given a very clear easing signal at the time, but I also have observed that the world had not ended, and that a lot had changed since he had made those comments. I felt they would not ease today and they didn't.

  • Its important to note that the Bank of England will meet again in just three weeks and they will know a lot more at that time than now. Furthermore, with the repo rate already at a scant 50bps, they might want to keep their powder dry. Bank of England members gave markets strong signals that a rate cut is on the cards for August 4. I state again that the decision will be determined at that time. The GBP is closing higher on the day vs. the EUR and USD.

  • The new talk today was about a more aggressive stimulus program by Japanese PM Abe. Talk is about "helicopter monry" following a meeting between Abe and former Fed Chair Bernanke this week. A radical stimulus program would be out of character for a Japanese government. Nevertheless, the JPY is weaker vs. the USD and EUR. USDJPY easily took out 105 resistance today.

  • Global equities are mostly up, while bond yields generally are higher as equities improve. The U.S. 10-yr note is 1.529% +6.2bp. Fed Funds futures odds on one rate hike this year are about 43%. This week's onslaught of Fed babble continues.

  • Opinions are split about what policy decision the Bank of England will reach today. The Majority view seems to favor one 25bp rate cut. Few are still anticicipating a 50bp reduction in rates.

  • Also keep in mind that the BOE meets next in just three weeks time.I don't see any compelling reason for an immediate policy move. The GBP is trading higher versus the USD and EUR ahead of the meeting.

  • The new talk today is about a more aggressive stimulus program by Japanese PM Abe. There has been talk of "helicopter monry" following talks between Abe and former Fed Chair Bernanke this week. A radical stimulus program would be out of character for a Japanese government. Nevertheless, the JPY is weaker vs. the USD and EUR. USDJPY easily took out 105 resistance today.

  • Global equities are mostly up after a strong U.S. finish. while bond yields generally are higher as equities improve. The U.S. 10-yr note is 1.473% +0.6bp. Fed Funds futures odds on one rate hike this year are about one in three. This week's onslaught of Fed babble continues today.

MAY vs CARNEY
Reply
May says she will not work for the privileged few.

Carney s policies are only benefitting the privileged few.
Prices will go up , pension will come down.

Helicopter money given directly to "the people " instead of to the banks and hedge funds is the only solution to help the working people .

Central bankers like Carney neither talk nor listen to " the people" they only talk to hedge funds ( to get a job) , to bankers and to publishers ( to write a book about how they won the lotto )

tokyo, almost all i am in contact with are holding off investment decisions until the fate of the union with the eu is addressed. this will result in reduced flows into the uk for the time being. at best speculation can drive cable to 139 v briefly, but youd expect real gbp selling to take place from 135 up. cable was 140 a week prior to brexit. getting to sell anywehere near there would be a save for many, but the queue is long.

the brexit issue will continue to weigh, as will capital issues and this will pressure cable over nxt 6-12 months to poss under 120. v unlikely to move dwn first if no change, likely to move straight up. mkt has a cut 3/4 priced in so shorts will be stung. but unless carney and co pull out all the stops today, it looks like we will fill the gap at 13614 before moving lower again.

New Zealand’s central bank said it will issue an unscheduled assessment of the economy next week, prompting traders to increase bets on an interest-rate cut in August.

The assessment, which will be published on July 21 and won’t include a review of the official cash rate, is being made because of a longer-than-usual period between policy decisions, the Reserve Bank said in an advisory in Wellington Thursday.

I think a no move is leading to bigger crisis (<1.28)

a move of .25 will meet expectation and send gbp above 1.33

a move bigger will lead to a 2nd test on 1.28

yen. v nearby sup at 10535 prev low and 10520. prev bottom of 10555 broken but 200 month ma at 10580 intact. a move abv there tgts 10684. if they clear 107 then 110-113 possible with an outside chance for 116. so you can certainly ride these moves but abv 116 needed to force a lt change in trend.

depending on what they do cable can be bought 13030 and 12975. a 25bp cut is about 75/80% in the price and if they just talk but not do anything else then those levels ought to bare the worst of it. im not expecting too much from them today. haldane and a couple of others will certainly extend the dove side but it may not be enough to force a majority today. but carney is a religious man so he will act sooner or later (august if not today) but a no change today will boost cable thru 13340.

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Forex Brokers

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs. You can look on the forex forum for updates when one of the fx trading tools is updated.

FX Trading

Global-View also offers a full fx trading chart gallery that includes fx pairs, such as the EURUSD, commodities, stocks and bonds. In a fx trading world where markets are integrated, the chart gallery is a valuable trading tool. Look for updates on the Forex Forum when the chart gallery is updated.

Forex Blog

Global-View.com also offers a forex blog, where articles of interest for currency trading are posted throughout the day. The forex blog articles come from outside sources, including forex brokers research as well as from the professionals at Global-View.com. This forex blog includes the Daily Forex View, Market Chatter and technical forex blog updates.
