And Wall Street absolutely loved it, because in a replica of the ECB's CSPP, this time called the Corporate Bond Purchasing Scheme, or CBPS, the BOE assured that corporate bond yields would sink even lower, as per our preview last night, in the process forcing yield-chasing investors to buy even more dividend stocks and push the market to even greater highs, allowing banks to offload even more risk onto retail investors.

Of course, that's not how they called it, instead DB's Mark Wall said "the breadth of the package and confidence in the capacity" while Goldman Andrew Benito said the BOE action was "a significant package of policy easing."

I want to be on top
Forever on the up
And damn the competition
I never play it fair
I never turn a hair
Just like the politicians
I wrap my conscience up
I want to win that cup
And get my money baby
But back in the dressing room
The other side is weeping
And we're winning, winning ugly
And we're winning, winning ugly
And we're heading for the heartbreak
Heading for the blues
We're heading for the heartbreak

the impediment to the success of this, the overhead as it were, is people. Too many people, who can an sooner than you would think, will be replaced by robots.

How to deal with this? Just look around.

The Olympics in Rio(yes the Girl From Impanema--tall and tan...) swiming, sailing in sheit laden water. Zika ZIKA Zika, babies with small heads. Flint Mich...oh yeah there was Lead in the water for years, we just didn't tell you.....China, Bejing...BREATHE THE AIR, or is it AIR CAN HURT YOU TOO...also see India.

It will all take time. Just keep your self in the top 1-2% so you can afford to keep yourself in the top 1-2%.

And to TODAY's Ponzi.

The CB's are buying Stocks, bonds, et al. (see the SNB 13-F filing) and Japan/Abe/BOJ are buying ETFs...extend that out. Not even mentioning the Bad Debt now on their books.

These CB's keep rates at 0 and are willing to go well below 0.
The Corporations(SToX) borrow at the 0 rate and buy back their shares, boosting the stock prices and the CB's balance.

These CB's all have a printing press, so this can go on forever.

And as far anyone can see, it will.

so am I to understand that the central banker collective is oblivious to the nega-effect parts of their meddling and that they pretend the fault that nothing works is the fault of outside sources ?

One thing I think that I observe is that their thinking of omnipotence has no limit - that if things do not work, it is only because they have not done enough as they continue to bloviate that they can and would/will do more.

I am not sure that a violent re-pricing (dc CB 18:45 - there will be no crash) is not possible.

Trading Themes --
  • Analysts now are expecting a solid rise in U.S. employment Friday of 195K. Another solid report would call into question the weak May data, but keep in mind the Fed focus is also on inflation. The core PCE deflator Tuesday was flat again at 1.60% yr/yr.

  • A strong jobs report will have markets looking for a September or December rate hike. After a number of missteps, expect this Fed to be very cautious. Current street odds on a Fed funds rate hike by year-end are about 45%.

  • The ADP Jobs data have been about unchanged over the past three months even though the associated NFP data have seen wide swings up and down. The closely watched employment sub-component of the ISM Service PMI weakened modestly.

  • The Bank of England announced a 25bp reduction in its repo rate target to 0.25% Thursday, as expected, and also added a number of items to further stimulate bank lending. The markets took this as a signal that the GBP should weaken on the news, and sold the unit off against the USD and on its crosses.

The then FED gang was blindsided in 2008.

At least 2x this year so far the bright mind (sarc) Stanley Fischer has claimed "it is too early" to say anything definitive (once about market volatility/int rates, the 2nd time about Brexit effect)

adding GVI Trading Room john"s Trading Themes -- reference that "After a number of missteps, expect this Fed to be very cautious"

I would think the latter would be more dangerous to my account.

no crash
only guarantee of no crash are at/near 0% interest rates.
start calculating
- what a 4% or an 8% interest rate would do to cost of servicing existing debt
- what would 4 or 8% bond yield do to government promises
- what would happen to consumer & mortgage car, truck & house loans and how that would affect sales of said things

Bottom Line
That is why Janet can only dream-bstalk about path to some rate normalization

They will take on other measures. He has clearly stated the lower boundary of rates is positive thus no more room of note. Hard data takes time so he is trying to sell this as a pre-emptive strike but PMI is one of the best leading indicators around and in the UK it has plummeted so the hard data will follow...

Point is....once the hard data comes he will have to pray to the currency Gods that sterling stays weak as his other measures will be useless (as the BOJ and ECB are seeing) in generating growth/inflation. They simply push consumers to display deflationary tendencies by delaying consumption. Any CB Governor forced to pray to the currency mtks is doomed to fail

yes thats an important point and its stopped the rot for now, but the economy is yet to begin weakening as far as official hard data goes and we don't know where it will stop once it starts so it remains to be seen where the low for rates actually comes in. aside from that if they dont move rates lower, they will take other measures which he failed to detail further than that.

straddle over 150 pips now. more like it but still room id say. still ive cashed it out since its risen markedly since am. decent gain considering considerable risk now ahead. will consider dip buys using options/binary if well over f/c action at 13130/35 and 13060/70. topside, on any flash dip youd want to be long before it fully rebounds and takes 13360/65. abv there they will chase quickly.

dont think they will chase usd shorts elsewhere since nfp tomorrow and f/c is ok so positioning will be net long usd. that said euro shud hold on to 11090/95 today, while tomorrow depends on ahe and nfp. going below that zone brings 110 in to play by tomorrows close. today shud be safe however. euro topside likely limited to 11170/80 ahead of nfp. a poor nfp tomorrow wud need to see 11260/65 broken or they will run it lower before friday is out. bar is pretty low for us rate hikes although adp doesnt tell the whole story and seasonally there is some risk of a miss tomorrow.

for risk averse and to limit loss but give potential to stay in game, on initial flash dip you get conditions, quite rare, but suitable for a binary long in the form of a ladder some 125-150 pips north of current or a daily +/-. you be paying around 15-20 maybe with a r/r 4-5/1. options might still attract a strong premium so youd be reducing our outlay that way. not often worth doing binaries but in cases where you expect the elastic band, they can be applied.

london red 08:52 GMT August 4, 2016

fwiw eod straddle is about 115pips. thats a bit low for me. id say we do double that. but in any case that will be initial sup res. quite poss on a 25bps cut alone, we dip a fig or so then move back to evens then 134.

london red 08:49 GMT August 4, 2016

if they dont cut its going to 135/136 today poss higher. they wont be able to keep it low without a cut and qe. carney is unlikely to prep for a cut next time in todays pressser if they are undecided as a group today. in any case mkt wont really believe him given his comments on acting a month ago. weak sterling is the only thing they have got right so far and that was not by their doing. the mpc as they are, a cautious bunch, couldnt be convinced to raise despite enough data to warrant it, could be equally stubborn in moving lower. just going by their past history, id say its unlikely we will get a 9-0 for a cut and in the case of a majority for keeping rates as they are, you are going to see ft100 dwn 2-3% and cable to 135/136. that has its own consequences for confidence. frm there to 138 you are getting good levels to get short cable for the long haul.

The govt does have a plan its the economy that doesn't! Weak sterling is definitely the only thing the UK economy has going for it right now but whatever the BOE does today will end up with the same as the BOJ and ECB found...acting on rates/QE just causes people's confidence to weaken further and delay spending....BOE should sit on its hands today and try to keep sterling weak but talking of easing to come

london red 08:31 GMT August 4, 2016
cable

acting too swiftly? a drop in output is coming thats for sure, but cutting rates or not wont make any difference. the government currently doesnt have a plan in place for brexit and confidence to take even st business decisions wont come until it does. however the boe would do well to take the gift of a weak sterling and nurture it, it certainly wont do any harm going forward.

WEEKLY HIGH IMPACT NEWS:

4-Aug THU
11:00 GB- Bank of England Decision
5-Aug FRI
12:30 US/CA Employment and Trade

Trading Themes --
  • The Bank of England meets today. The markets have already priced in a 25bp reduction in its repo rate target to 0.25% along with additional policy ease as uncertainty about the economic impact of Brexit weighs on sentiment. This decision is likely to be a market-mover

  • Analysts expect a strong rise in U.S. employment on Friday of 195K.

The closely watched employment sub-component of the ISM Service PMI weakened modestly.

london red 07:47 GMT August 4, 2016

unless they put the hammer dwn cable is likely to rally or dip then rally. last time only one mpc member voted for a cut. if we dont get a 100% consensus for a cut or they dont do qe, cable is going to return to pre mpc levels after a quick dip, then proceed to test higher levels. 13480/13508 poss. they need to do 40bps or 25bps with lrg qe to cap cable today. carney has recently been critical of negative rates, so he will need a good reason to get close to there today. i still think they will want to wait for hard data or at least some of the members will want to.

Retail spending growth is at its slowest annual pace in three years. Spending rose by just 0.1 per cent in June, figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show, below market expectations of growth of 0.3 per cent.

That took retail trade growth in the year to June to 2.8 per cent, the slowest annual pace of growth since since mid-2013, and barely half the 4.9 per cent rise recorded over the year to June 2015.

The strongest spending growth in June came in the clothing, department stores and electronics sectors, while the largest falls were felt in hardware and pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

Retail employs approx 15% of the Australian employment market.
