Central Banks Continue To Rule The Markets
Reply

John M. Bland, MBA

Monetary Policy Ease Almost Everywhere

The central banks remain in control of the markets as since 2008 it has been up to them to patch the global economy back together again. Unfortunately, as we learned back in the Great Depression, monetary policy is not very effective at stimulating growth. Banks trying to work off bad loan portfolios are not likely to be aggressive lenders, and potential borrowers tend to restrain their consumption as they try to dig themselves out of a hole. The answer is usually that the economy needs a significant fiscal stimulus, but most countries are reluctant to spend because they face significant budget deficits because of reduced tax collections. This is the dilemma that just about everyone is facing at the current time.

WoW not all that it seemed to be. Not so Boffo after all> D'OH

As Mitsubishi UFJ strategist John Herrmann wrote in a note shortly after the report, the "jobs headline overstates" strength of payrolls. He adds that the unadjusted data show a “middling report” that’s “nowhere as strong as the headline" and adds that private payrolls unadjusted +85k in July vs seasonally adjusted +217k.

In Herrmann’s view, the government applied a “very benign seasonal adjustment factor upon private payrolls to transform a soft private payroll gain into a strong gain.”

He did not provide a reason why the government would do that.

PAR explain to me why the jobs data is even relevant?

Do you really think that this (not very reliable and lagging indicator) will have a REAL impact on monetary policy? If so what real impact and why would that impact the USD? Seriously, the whole scenario is a joke. What we may get is some whiplash and then we go back to the fundamentals. There will be no rate hike in the run up to the election and I see precious little reason to expect one after. So this data point is just a major distraction but it keeps the natives from getting restless I guess. So enjoy the day. :-)

Dollar in wait-and-see mode ahead of U.S. jobs report -- Reuters.com

Bit of joke this 'wait and see' thing. Wait and see what? No rate hike is coming and I don't really see the possibility of a rate cut. So wait and see the 'do nothing reality'. Get caught up in the hype and get whipped. Ignore the rubbish and focus on the reality. Trade that.

U.S. Employment Seen Returning to Normal After Two Quirky Months -- bloomberg.com
Reply
"First it flopped, then it flipped. Now, economists are looking for U.S. payrolls growth to return in July to its 2016 average. “If the July number is relatively normal, I think the conclusion that people will draw is that whatever July prints is more or less the new trend,” said Stephen Stanley, chief economist at Amherst Pierpont Securities LLC in New York..."

"The dollar trod water on Friday as traders awaited a closely watched monthly U.S. labor market report that should provide clues as to whether the world's biggest economy will bounce back after a lackluster second quarter.

The greenback was flat on the week against a basket of major currencies .DXY, having fallen 2 percent last week - its worst showing since April - on a much-weaker-than-expected set of U.S. growth data and on a statement from the Federal Reserve that failed to give a clear signal of a near-term rate rise..."

Trading Themes --
  • Analysts are expecting a solid rise in U.S. employment of 195K. Another decent report would further nullify the weak May data, but keep in mind the Fed focus is also on inflation. The core PCE deflator Tuesday was flat again at 1.60% yr/yr.

  • A strong jobs report would have markets looking for a September or December rate hike. After a number of missteps, expect this Fed to remain timid. Current street odds on a Fed funds rate hike by year-end are about 40%.

  • The ADP Jobs data sugeest a near consensus reading, but they have been about unchanged over the past three months even though the associated NFP data have seen wide swings up and down. The closely watched employment sub-component of the ISM Service PMI weakened modestly.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.REUTERS/Rick Wilking)
Jeff Bezos just got a nice payday.

In his most valuable stock sale ever, the Amazon founder and CEO sold about 1 million shares of his company this week. That's more than $755 million worth of stock.

The sale itself is routine — Bezos sells a huge number of shares every year on a predetermined schedule — but the sheer bounty is pretty extraordinary.

Amazon just posted its third-straight record-breaking earnings, and the stock is up almost 44% since his last big sale, according to Yahoo Finance.

What will Bezos do with his new riches?

Who knows? Maybe he'll invest some in his rocket company. Or his underground clock. Or The Washington Post. Or charity. Bezos has a lot of interests.

Markets cautious heading into U.S. payrolls in about 4-1/2 hours. Market consensus is for a gain of just below 200K with a wide band of uncertainty around that forecast.

Carney Ready to Cut Rate Again After BOE Eases on Brexit Fallout -- bloomberg.com

Carney s objective " The Rich get Richer " .

Stealing from the poor to give to the rich .

Low interest rates only boost the stock markets ,share buybacks and job cutting mergers . The real economy only suffers from low interest rates and get minimal benefits from competitive devaluations .

nfp day and usd will move lrg today. yen has been in tight range for most of wk, either side of 10075/10175 calls the break. vols quite low think youll be able to pick up eod straddle for half a fig or less soon. thats always worth a shot on nfp day. similarly euro vols low for an nfp. euro needs to see outside of 11090/11265 to force a move. mkt looking for better nfp and also ahe at 0.3% to drive dollar rally. gdp was given benefit of doubt slightly but if nfp doesnt produce (and ahe) you are going to see strong usd selling.

In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.
