Krugman is typical of Nobel guys - one great insight that was very lonely for companionship -- he thinx raising taxes will support spending (a throwback to the balanced budget conservatives) when the reality is build the infrastructure, give the property away and use debt as money (that's how we grew)

Let me clarify Fed panic - it can come from inflation, or their economist peers yakking about them or even the market, if it ever gets a clue

BREAKING NEWS:

A Hillary Clinton presidency would represent a third Obama term, prominent liberal columnist and economist Paul Krugman said Monday.

"It's a continuation. It is Obama's third term," the Nobel-winning economist said in an interview on Bloomberg TV. "It's center-left governance with fairly cautious proposals."

Krugman, who has advocated for liberal economic policies and greater fiscal stimulus, has written that Clinton and her advisers have been cautious in their estimates of the economic growth her proposals would produce.

Although some of her plans are "fairly significant," he said, such as her proposed tax increases on high-income earners, overall "it's the same kind of governance we've had."

The BoJ is out of the picture unless it subsidizes Saver accounts w/ banks - and FISCAL policy is WHAT?

The Yen is a Hostage to the Fed - and the Fed ALWAYS panics

SFH - agree. The derivatives GOLD market is a minefield. Physical gold is the focus, which is what China and Russia are buying. I'm beginning to think that this 'proverbial' is NEVER going to hit the fan. Too many people talking Armageddon and collapse of this and that and everthing. There will be change, a reset, a massive shift in global economic power, military power, currencies... blah, blah, blah..... but quite frankly, so what? Welcome to the world. It possible that we will all just muddle through? I'm beginning to think so. I can't tell you how tired I am by the doom and gloomers in the press and elsewhere. Oh and if the U.S. votes for Trump... well let me tell you THE END IS NIGH. Good grief. Do these people never get tired of their whining? Tedious doesn't cover it.

Deutsche Bank ADMITS it is preparing for market crash as fears over bail out grow
Reply

GERMANY'S largest bank has ADMITTED it is in "financial repression mode" as it desperately scrambles to implement financial buffers to prevent collapse.

Central banks are using interest-rate cuts, asset purchases, and other monetary-policy measures to prop up the economy to keep it at a "status quo”, the bank said.

But a market correction could be on the cards if an "external economic shock" hits, they said.

The news comes as it was revealed the bank's profits dropped by 98 per cent last month and its share price reached lows not seen since before 2002.

Now Dominic Konstam, Deutsche Bank's global head of interest rates research, has issued a report that warned a "collapse in risk assets" could cause "panic".

And he said the bank is awaiting on decisions from the ECB to bail out Italy and Japan's proposed "helicopter money" investment similar to that of quantitative easing in order to fully understand what happens next.

Mr Konstam said: "The status quo could continue for several years yet – if nothing 'breaks' in the system.

"There are ways of course for either avoiding breaks or at least patching them – mitigating the impact of negative rates on banks is now in vogue with subsidised bank loans for on lending.

"We may yet see soft forms of bank bailout still being allowed.

"The conclusion is that without an external economic shock it is hard to see policymakers being prepared to take dramatic, fiscal action to jumpstart the global economy and bounce it out of a financial repression.

Nazi gold train could be discovered this week as researchers get ready to dig
Reply

One year after claiming to have located the mysterious Nazi train filled with gold, treasure hunters in Poland are on the brink of finding out whether it actually exists.

Andreas Richter and Piotr Koper, who in August 2015 said they’d located the train using ground-penetrating radar, will be leading a dig at the site near old railway tracks between the cities of Wroclaw and Walbrzych starting Tuesday.

A privately-funded team of 35 researchers are involved in the search and have been busy preparing the site over the past week.

It’s all eyes on Tuesday’s action though as they will be drilling three holes along a 100-meter stretch of ground, each measuring around 9 meters in depth to see what’s beneath the surface.

“The train isn’t a needle in a haystack. If it’s there, we’ll find it,” spokesman Andrzej Gaik told AFP.

"If we find a tunnel, then that is also a success. Maybe the train is hidden inside that tunnel,” Gaik added.

The way the world Central Banks are behaving (money printing, interest rates to zero) real assets and alternatives to paper money can only do better. Gold is the go to asset of choice: moveable, universal... they (the powers-that-be) have tried to manipulate the GOLD market but in the situation we have today, which is unprecedented, Gold IMVHO can only continue to outperform. The move away from the USD as an international reserve currency (which is happening and given the actions of the FED can only accelerate) will necessarily see Gold bid, even if it becomes the temporary international reserve as a new system emerges.

BREAKING NEWS: U.K. CPI Hotter Than Expected

Lower GBP and rebounding oil prices blamed for higher price data.

Paris ib 08:41 GMT August 16, 2016
USD sell off PART II

The U.S. External Debt is HUGE, however, the one remarkable factor is that it is mostly denominated in USDs. So FX risk sits with the holders of U.S. debt. A fall in the value of the USD would result in a capital loss for foreigners and NOT an increase in debt for the U.S. (which is preferable to say the position of Thailand before the Asian crisis). Greece was in a similar position: lots of external debt held in Euros. When and if a debt crisis takes place in the U.S. the strain will be seen in the debt markets and in the currency. Initially in the debt market (rising yields) and then in the currency. Currency risk relating to the USD is still alive and well.

USD sell off PART II

"The sum total in June of all net foreign acquisitions of long-term securities, short-term U.S. securities, and banking flows was a monthly net TIC outflow of $202.8 billion.

Taking into account transactions in both foreign and U.S. securities, net foreign sales of long-term securities were $3.6 billion. After.. adjustments... overall net foreign sales of long-term securities are estimated to have been $38.9 billion in June."

And here we go. The test of 100 in USD/JPY will be interesting. After all the attempts to bolster the USD/JPY (from ABE etc.) I doubt they have very much left. So maybe we go through this time without a fight. Funny old world.

  • Trading has picked up today with key data due from the U.K. (CPI), Germany (ZEW Survey) and U.S. (CPI, Housing Starts/Permits & Industrial Production) likely to bring activity back to life.

  • Another trigger overnight was comments by SF Fed President Williams who said that central banks should study raising their inflation targets and that more should be done from the fiscal side to promote growth. Williams earlier had been an advocate for a more aggressive Fed policy normalization.

  • The key EURUSD pair has taken out its post-Brexit highs on the Williams comments which suggested a more dovish Fed policy posture. The latest FOMC policy minutes are due Wednesday. The USDJPY is in range of the psychological 100.00 line.

  • Fed funds futures are now pricing in about 48% odds on a Fed rate hike by year end. Odds fell from about 55% early on Friday before the weaker than expected U.S. Retail Sales report.

Fed's Williams pushes dollar down to one-month low vs. yen -- Reuters.com
Reply
"The dollar fell across the board on Tuesday, falling a full yen to a one-month low against the Japanese currency and down against the commodity-linked currencies most associated with growth and greater risk-taking by investors worldwide.

The greenback has been under pressure for the past week as the perceived chances of a rise in U.S. interest rates this year took a knock from several batches of data and the tone of some Federal Reserve policymakers.

The trigger for its weakness overnight was a paper from San Francisco Fed President John Williams arguing that central banks might have to raise inflation targets, focus more on growth and back much looser fiscal policy in future..."

EUR/USD - .... The single currency rallied from yesterday's Asian low at 1.1154 to session high at 1.1203 in New York morning due to active-cross buying of euro vs sterling (eur/gbp rose to a fresh 2-1/2 year high at 0.8703). However, price pared its gains and retreated to 1.1175 at Asian open today.

Market focus will now be on the release of EZ and Germany ZEW sentiment data at 09:00GMT.
Downbeat data would signal at spillovers from Brexit and send euro lower.

Bids are now lowered to 1.1160/70 and more below at 1.1130/40 with stops building up below there whilst initial offers are noted at 1.1220/30, suggesting further choppy trading would be seen.

Maybe you didn't hear yet about the miracles of paper gold.

AND....

This week an ex-US-navy I met, during a conversation bent towards me, as if he has a big secret to tell me;"If you have money buy gold!!! China and Russia are buying gold".
No need to mention that this fellow, didn't even finish Hi-school.

A sell signal: If the navy bums suggest to buy gold...you sell!!!
