Was Yellen correct or was Fischer? Both of them can't be, because they said something different.

BREAKING NEWS:

The talking heads are blaming the Stanley Fischer comments made after 11AM for the second downleg in the EURUSD. I had the misfortune of listening to him directly and did not hear him say much. The comment about the possibility for rate cuts in September and December was made offhandedly. I thought nothing of it. It looks a lot different in print!

His convoluted answer was made to a convoluted question by Steve Liesman. I took his words to mean that two hikes were a theoretical possibility only and not policy. In fact the market ignored his comments and the EURUSD actually rallied after Fischer finished.

Gold and Oil soaring. USD/JPY to test 100.... again. Groundhog day? And EUR/USD on the highs of the day.

FED is crying wolf again only with zero credibility.

The market will believe in a FED hike when they see it and maybe not even then. One and done? Or maybe they give it another nudge to show the market that they are really, really out of bullets. I think I could stand all of this if we didn't have every pundit hanging off every word. Tea leaf readers... who waste our time. We know what's happening. The FED can't hike. The U.S. Government can't afford to roll debt at a higher funding cost. Period.

I thought she wanted inflationary pressures AND how scary is it that she thinks they can better predict reaction to funds rate better than asset sales -- like they can predict anything -- see DOTS

Looking ahead, the FOMC expects moderate growth in real gross domestic
product (GDP), additional strengthening in the labor market, and inflation rising to
2 percent over the next few years. Based on this economic outlook, the FOMC continues
to anticipate that gradual increases in the federal funds rate will be appropriate over time to achieve and sustain employment and inflation near our statutory objectives. Indeed, in light of the continued solid performance of the labor market and our outlook for economic activity and inflation, I believe the case for an increase in the federal funds has strengthened in recent months. Of course, our decisions always depend on the degree to which incoming data continues to confirm the Committee’s outlook.

  • The focus finally is on the Yellen speech today. Most expect a more hawkish tone. She speaks at14:00 GMT) at the Kansas City Fed symposium at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Most expect a message that the economy is strong enough to withstand a modest step towards a policy normalization.

  • Vice Chair Fischer and NY Fed President Dudley already have laid the groundwork for a December rate hike. This is a political decision for the Fed. Waiting for the December meeting would be the easiest path.

  • Japanese July CPI released today indicated that the economy remains mired in deflation.

  • Monday is a holiday for London. Manny feel now the U.K. economy could flourish once it is out from under the control of Brussels. Furthermore, the sharp GDP decline since Brexit has been an immediate economic stimulus.

The head of Germany’s largest bank says negative rates are ‘fatal’

Cryan says negative interest-rate policy could have ‘fatal consequences’

Add John Cryan to the ensemble of Wall Street heavyweights decrying the emergence of negative-yielding debt.

Cryan, the chief executive of Deutsche Bank—Germany’s largest and most prominent bank, with some €1.7 trillion ($1.9 trillion) in assets—cautioned that the negative interest-rate policy could have “fatal consequences.” He made is remarks as part of a guest commentary published in the German newspaper Handelsblatt on Aug. 23.

“Monetary policy is now running counter to the aims of strengthening the economy and making the European banking system safer,” Cryan said, ahead of a bank summit starting Aug. 31.

Cryan also said negative rates punish savers and could have disastrous implications for pensions, which attempt to match their liabilities with safe, interest-bearing assets like bonds.

For Deutsche Bank’s DB, -1.20% part, the institution has been among the large European banks that have more acutely felt the pinch of negative interest rates in Europe, which has crimped the profitability of lenders.

Ultralow and below-zero rates have helped to push Deutsche Bank’s shares down nearly 45% on year-to-date basis. The bank has been hard hit in the wake of the U.K.’s vote on June 23 to exit from the European Union, which briefly rocked markets. Given its elevated profile among global financial institutions and its inability to shake of the hangover of the 2008-2009 financial crisis, the German bank has spent years under the Klieg lights of regulatory and investor scrutiny.

The International Monetary Fund in June referred to Deutsche Bank as the riskiest financial institution in the world. The bank was among the worst performers, including Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena S.p. A BMPS, +8.96% on a European test of the ability of banks to withstand unexpected shocks to the system.

UK newspapers, are all praise for the stamina and resistance of the UK economy, to the Brexit doomsday predictions and expectations.
That is also supported by data released last few days.

On the contrary, not even one analyst is found around, not to predict, but a limited recovery of the currency before a drop back to the post Brexit referendum low.

This may happen only if the USD will show an extreme coming strength, if one likes to believe.

Anyone is puzeled?

But it maybe that many of those analysts(if not all) represent investors badly stuck in record Hi number shorts.

USD/JPY - ....... Despite staging a rebound after finding renewed buying at 100.30 in Europe today, the greenback retreated sharply at Tokyo open today due to data which showed Japan July consumer prices post its biggest annual fall in three years.

Although market focus is on Fed Yellen's testimony at 14:00GMT due to the guidance she might provide on the central bank's monetary policy, traders should also keep an eye on the release of U.S. GDP and GDP deflector at 12:30GMT.
Street forecasts are 1.1% and 2.4$ vs previous readings of 1.2% and 2.2% respectively.

Bids are now lowered to 100.20/30 and more below at 100.00/10 with stops building up above there whilst initial offers are noted at 100.80/90, suggesting further choppy trading would be seen ahead of Fed's Yellen speech.

Stubbornly low inflation and low or sub-zero interest rates in many countries have sparked discussion among global central bankers about alternative policy goals, including price-level and nominal gross domestic product targeting.

Canada will likely maintain its 2 percent inflation target and bypass alternative policy goals when the central bank renews its inflation-control agreement this year, strategists say, but the main measure of core inflation may change.

Look at all the willing reverence - as if these people were some deity when all they have is other folks willingness to kisstheirass and swallow their bs. So as log as that is a market element, one can either ignore it or try to co-op it into preferably posi-pip making:

Some 100 economists and Fed officials — each one able to fill a room if they gave a speech in New York or Washington

A handful of reporters are invited into the closed-door discussions, while others linger in the lodge’s beautiful lobby.

three cable business news outlets — CNBC, Bloomberg Television and Fox Business Network — now set up tents side-by-side, and Fed officials and economists move among them like the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers players did last January

The Bank of Canada and government set an inflation targeting agreement, which guides the bank's interest rate decisions, every five years and the next update is this fall. Canada's annual inflation slowed to 1.3 percent in July.
