Forex Trading Outlook

  • The equity rally triggered by infrastructure spending decisions by President Trump on Tuesday carried into Wednesday trading. Further activity could continue to fuel rising equities and weigh on the EURUSD.

  • The January German IFO Survey for January 2017 were surprisingly soft. No major EURUSD impact.

  • The U.K. Supreme Court upheld High Court ruling affirming that Parlimentary approval is needed to invoke Article 50, which puts Brexit into motion. This decision should not impact the Brexit timetable. It was also ruled that devolved parliaments have no role in the decision. If this had been required, PM May could have faced a messy process with Scotland already on record as opposing Brexit.

Late in N.Y., U.S. equity markets are ending higher as optimism about Trump economic policies improved stocks over the day. The DJIA appears set to close above the psychological 20,000 line. As a consequence, bond yields have turned higher in key fixed income markets. The yield on the 10-yr Note is ending at 2.521%, +5.6bp. In forex trading, the EUR is mixed on its crosses while the USD is mixed.

there is divergence between stocks and usd since 2017 which doesnt mean anything in itself, it seems usd mkt more concerned about trump protectionism while stocks looking at it jar half full. we got divergence begin of last yr where stocks tank while usd stayed firm, this disipated on the arrival of february and by march both were again around a pt dwn ytd. given where stocks started the year a further extension is possible before retracement to the downside to 2200 or more on s&p, the caveat here is it could be a break out year, for which you could argue trump following thru on promises would provide that basis. so its a question of whether you believe in the buil, rebuild and reflate argument, in which case usd longs are looking v cheap and are probably the safe hedge as well as a play on trump.

ROME, Jan 25 (Reuters) - Italy's constitutional court said on Wednesday that part of a contested electoral law was invalid, but left much of the system intact in a ruling that could open the way for early elections in 2017.
In a written verdict, the court rejected the idea that national elections could be held over two rounds, but agreed that any party which took at least 40 percent of the vote straight out should win an automatic parliamentary majority.
The court said the amended law could now be used immediately if elections were called. A vote is not scheduled until early 2018 but former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, who still heads the ruling Democratic Party, has said he wants a ballot held as soon as possible. (Reporting by Crispian Balmer; Editing by Gavin Jones)

Forex Trading Outlook

  • Actions on moving ahead on infrastructure spending (approving pipelines the Obama administration had been stalling) gave equities a lift Tuesday afternoon and this has carried over into Wednesday. Continued progress could continue to fuel rising equities.

  • The January German IFO Survey for January 2017 were surprisingly soft. No major EURUSD impact.

  • The U.K. Supreme Court upheld High Court ruling affirming that Parliamentary approval is needed for PM May to invoke Article 50, which puts Brexit into motion. The Court also ruled that approval of the devolved Parliaments (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) is not required. A bill invoking Article 50 will be presented on Thursday. There are no worries this will slow the March-end Brexit deadline.

  • If approval of the devolved parliaments had been required, this could have become a messy process with Scotland opposing Brexit.

  • Late Monday U.S. Treasury Secretary-designate Mnuchin muddied the waters when he said that an excessively strong US dollar may be negative in the short term.

- Italian Foreign Minister has compared anti-Russian sanctions with a service, which was paid for by the European Union... According to the minister, the question of abolishing the sanctions against Moscow should be discussed.... "the paradox that the country which has pushed for sanctions - the United States - makes peace, and those who have paid a significant bill for the sanctions - the EU and Italy - remain hostage to sanctions" -

Has the 'Russian' diversion died down now? It seems to me that 'they' are going with the 'Trump hates women' meme.

Potentially good news for the Rouble and the Euro.

AceTrader Jan 25: Intra-Day Market Moving News and Views USD/JPY
Reply
25 Jan 2017 04:04GMT

USD/JPY - ..... In total contrast to its intra-day biddish tone in yesterday's Asian morning, dlr pared Tuesday's impressive rally from a 7-week low of 112.53 to 113.89 in New York.

Despite extending o/n gain to 113.99 just ahead of Tokyo open, the pair quickly fell on broad-based yen buying esp. vs eur and aud, price retreated to 113.49.
Some traders attributed to intra-day dlr's weakness on safe-haven buying of yen as U.S. President Trump begins his U.S. economic revival plan by what many see as moving the country to protectionism.

As price is currently trading near the day's low, suggesting consolidation with downside bias remains for further weakness.
Offers are tipped at 113.80/90 n more above with some stops touted above 114.10.
Some bids are noted at 113.50-40 with stops below there, more stops are reported below Tuesday's New York low at 112.91.

Singapore 06:08 GMT January 25, 2017
GBP/USD: RECOVERY REMAINS CAPPED BELOW 1.2550
Reply
Renewed offers seen around the greenback over the last hour help keep the GBP/USD well supported above 1.25 handle.

However, the recovery from the UK Supreme Court Brexit decision induced sell-off appears to lack follow-through, as the bears continue to guard 1.2550 barrier amid rallying Asian equities, which reduce GBPs appeal as an alternative higher yielding asset.

In the day ahead, the major will keep a close track of the USD price-action amid a lack of significant fundamental news from both the UK and US docket. While attention gradually shifts towards the UK prelim GDP data due for release tomorrow.

Current GBP/USD exchange rate is 1.2515.

Our Latest Recommendation:
Sell GBP/USD as the pair is going down in Forex market.

Inflation is Back

Actually prices rose just 0.5 per cent over the fourth quarter and 1.5 per cent over the year, below predictions of a 0.7 per cent / 1.6 per cent rise.

The all-important core inflation numbers closely watched by the RBA also came in lower at 0.4 per cent over the quarter and 1.55 per cent for the year. Analysts had been hoping for a quarterly rise of 0.5 per cent.

The most significant quarterly rise was tobacco (+7.4%) as the Commonwealth government continues to increase excise tax. Vegetables prices have risen 12.5% over the year due to adverse weather conditions. While the first rise can be discounted the bulk of the second can be reversed with better weather conditions.

EUR/USD - 1.0734.. The euro finally pared recent strong gain and is currently trading just a tad above yesterday's low at 1.0721 as intra-day broad-based usd strength (or some may call it short covering rebound) knocked the single currency from a 6-week high of 1.0775 to 1.0721 in New York session.

Looks like the 1.0775 high print will remain for a day or do and consolidation is the order of the day. Having said that, current weakness in dlr/yen is likely to prevent the greenback rising vs its other G3 currencies, so one can trade on both sideways of the market.

Offers are noted at 1.0745/55 and more above with stops reported above 1.0775, however, more selling is touted at 1.0800. a mixture of bids and stops is reported at 1.0725/20, more stops are touted below 1.0700.

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.
