The Memo - back on the front burner
sources say:
And as it so happens, with the Russia collusion narrative danging by a thread and the threatening to take what remains of the Democrats credibility with it, CNN is back with - what else? - another report fueling the tired narrative that Trump has asked those around him to take "loyalty oaths" and otherwise prove their fealty.
This time, CNN is claiming that President Trump wanted to know whether Rosenstein was "on my team" when the deputy attorney general approached him in December about quashing Intel Committee Chairman Devin Nunes' document demands.
Which is interesting, because the documents that were eventually turned over following months of resistance to those demands became the inspiration for the FISA memo.
But CNN doesn't dwell on that. Instead, it moves next to Rosenstein's incredulous response: "Of course, we're all on your team, Mr. President," he reportedly said.
"Are You On My Team?"

Breaking News
Federal Reserve issues FOMC statement
For release at 2:00 p.m. EST
Information received since the Federal Open Market Committee met in December indicates that the labor market has continued to strengthen and that economic activity has been rising at a solid rate. Gains in employment, household spending, and business fixed investment have been solid, and the unemployment rate has stayed low. On a 12-month basis, both overall inflation and inflation for items other than food and energy have continued to run below 2 percent. Market-based measures of inflation compensation have increased in recent months but remain low; survey-based measures of longer-term inflation expectations are little changed, on balance.
Consistent with its statutory mandate, the Committee seeks to foster maximum employment and price stability. The Committee expects that, with further gradual adjustments in the stance of monetary policy, economic activity will expand at a moderate pace and labor market conditions will remain strong. Inflation on a 12‑month basis is expected to move up this year and to stabilize around the Committee's 2 percent objective over the medium term. Near-term risks to the economic outlook appear roughly balanced, but the Committee is monitoring inflation developments closely.
In view of realized and expected labor market conditions and inflation, the Committee decided to maintain the target range for the federal funds rate at 1-1/4 to 1‑1/2 percent. The stance of monetary policy remains accommodative, thereby supporting strong labor market conditions and a sustained return to 2 percent inflation.
In determining the timing and size of future adjustments to the target range for the federal funds rate, the Committee will assess realized and expected economic conditions relative to its objectives of maximum employment and 2 percent inflation. This assessment will take into account a wide range of information, including measures of labor market conditions, indicators of inflation pressures and inflation expectations, and readings on financial and international developments. The Committee will carefully monitor actual and expected inflation developments relative to its symmetric inflation goal. The Committee expects that economic conditions will evolve in a manner that will warrant further gradual increases in the federal funds rate; the federal funds rate is likely to remain, for some time, below levels that are expected to prevail in the longer run. However, the actual path of the federal funds rate will depend on the economic outlook as informed by incoming data.
Voting for the FOMC monetary policy action were Janet L. Yellen, Chair; William C. Dudley, Vice Chairman; Thomas I. Barkin; Raphael W. Bostic; Lael Brainard; Loretta J. Mester; Jerome H. Powell; Randal K. Quarles; and John C. Williams.

An interesting comparison 1980 against today.
In 1980 inflation was 13.5%. Based on your 17% interest rate the real rate of return would have been 3.5%. After applying the top rate of income tax of 70% the return would have been -8.4% p.a.
Carry forward to today the return is 2.7% inflation is 1.8%, the top rate of income tax is 40% making the after tax real rate of return -0.2% p.a.
Government wins both ways. Heads I win, tails you lose.

Dil; That's very true and we know full well that stats are just that........... to be manipulated the way they want (similar to having 2nd votes in Europe) but what we have is what is input into the models whether that be economic or trading thus creating reality vs perception
The fact is that the world is awash with cash created out of thin air and it will find a home even if that means holding debt to maturity to avoid banking a capital loss. In the world of ZIRP then 2% or 3% are considered by "investors" as a a good return even though in effect it still remains as zero. now 4 or 5% will be salivated over should that ever occur.
The days of early 1980 of 23% Fed Funds AAA Corps yielding 17% and US Govies at 14% will not happen for several decades
The new normal is FED Funds at or around 2.5% Long Bond at 4% and you can then extrapolate the rest of the curve where 2s would by that time be 3% and 10s at 3.5%

The failure of the USD to rally despite rising yields - and despite all the positive forecasts of all the pundits out there - is an indication that all is not well. Rising yields are NOT attracting more foreign capital. Capital flight and a debt spiral are still possible. Risks are huge and the U.S. is not psychologically equipped to deal with this change in status. I'm not sure how many people in the U.S. even understand that there is a problem or what the extent of the risk is. It's quite staggering.

Jay, fx is a cauldron of all data/information priced into one rate. I personally look at everything and pay more to attention to things there are on peoples minds. for example sometimes mkt respects rates/spreads, sometimes not. mkt is presently focused on usd policy and ecb tapering. while rates/spreads are just starting to work their way back into the picture, jobs and inflation taken a back seat as have been benign. this is likely to change over next few months as new pice parameters work way into data.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The Treasury Department on Wednesday said it plans to raise the size of upcoming bond and note auctions this quarter by $42 billion to meet the increased funding needs from the Federal Reserve's shrinking of its balance sheet and the recently passed tax bill. The department also announced it will auction $66 billion in notes and bonds next week in its quarterly refunding auctions, $4 billion more than last quarter. Treasury said that it will only be able to fund the government through the end of February unless Congress raises the debt ceiling. Treasury will increase the size of 2-year and 3-year note auctions by $2 billion per month this quarter. In addition, Treasury will increase the auction sizes to each of the next offerings of 5-year, 7-year, 10-year notes and the 30-year bond auctions starting in February.

Jay gave the alert that a down ladder was developing in euro. stop was close and defined, good for 45 pips plus, as I booked profits with trailing stop. traffic light says green you go but first check there's nobody trying to run the light. nobody said " buy, or sell" as no need as ladder told you where the risk was but it sets off an alert to check if there's something brewing. it paid for AT and then some for me!!!! You guys need to try it.

Finally formed a down ladder above 1.2450. Need a ladder destroyer break of 1.2428-30 to confirm the top is in.
