Well 1.1500 is now in view. It is my theory that the PBOC has been moving forex reserves out of USD into EUR recently. I do know generally that central banks have been moving out of USD, but the specifics are sketchy. China is on holiday all week and I wonder if their holiday absence has been giving the USD a respite?

anyone that sold late friday i would suggest some caution and take profits here. there are a number of structures in play using a 115 barrier would means it will be defended with vigour. that may or may not be enough to hold off a touch but also brexit news from tory conference this week does have the ability to produce euro and gbp positive shocks. further to this we have been in a 115-118 zone for a while and fx traders tend to operate on the philosophy dont fix if its not broke. so until we get a break, i would assume we stay in range. daily close below 115 suggests a retest of 113x low. otherwise it may be as we are.

I am confused with AUD/USD firm undertone over the last 24 hours.
Following news releases since Sunday:
1. Chinese manufacturing PMI's, government and Caixin released on Sunday were both below predicted levels yet appeared to be ignored by the market.
2, There was an article published in the New York Times "China Censors Bad Economic News Amid Signs of Slower Growth" highlighting lower expected GDP growth.
3. In yesterday's SMH confirmation that Sydney property prices have declined 6.1% since the same time last year.
Our previous home was auctioned on Saturday and failed to attract a single bid.
4. Coal prices predicted to fall considerably over the next year.The value of Australia�s coal exports is forecast to decline sharply over the next 18 months as thermal coal prices drop 25% and metallurgical coal prices fall 23%.
The decline in the spot price of both products will see their combined export value fall from $60.8bn in 2018-19 to $49.9bn in 2019-20, a deterioration of 18%.
At the same time, the value of iron ore exports will also decline, but not by as much. Iron ore export earnings are forecast to decline from $60.4bn in 2018-19 to $55.7bn in 2019-20, a decline of 7.8%.
Little likelihood of a change in sentiment from the RBA regarding interest rates perhaps the statement may include a comment regarding international trade and the local property market.
