U.S. economy starting to run out of Steam? Many are increasingly worried that the U.S. economy might be starting to run out of growth momentum. They have been pointing for a while at the high end of the housing market and are noticing now that its softness is showing up at the lower price points. Additionally, the steady “normalization” of Fed policy has seen short-term rates steadily rising. At this point, it appears that the central bank has lost its fix on what the “neutral level” of Fed funds might. Once it was put at 2.50% (current target range 2.00% to 2.25%) and it has steadily been drifting higher to above 3.00%. Maybe 2.50% was high enough?

US stock investors will not run for the hills unless the correction goes way beyond 10%

Forex market has been calm by comparison but usd is not benefiting as a safe haven, which is usually the case in risk off.

Watch Brexit headlines today.

Thursday Trading Checklist 11 October 2018

as we discussed last nite, europe has followed thru and is creating an opening gap on s&p if things stay as is until open. this allows us to move lower with the op to bounce and fill the gap later on. if filled past the half way period of session, mkt likely to continue higher for today at least. if however gap is filled early or on open, it means mkt can fall and stay low til end of session, which would indicate and further overnight fall in europe and thus a lower friday open in the us.
yen has key sup by 11150/55 id suggest s&p rallies from wherever it is (2690-2743) if yen makes a base there. a daily close below 11150 is quite bearish and although mkt can find sup by 110/11035, it would mean a break of trend and a focus on past lows.

Thursday Trading Checklist 11 October 2018

STOX - so far Asia caught up, Europe only missed the US afternoon move so less catch up needed and now we await US open -- sand was running out under markets since August as divergences persisted RUT and NDX have been slip sliding away // as John noted we are starting to see some "flight to safety" in FI -- some pundits may see STOX as a Fed hold in December, IMO not likely

We probably see the low today and recovery after Europe closes - the low will be tested again before the election but the MARKET always gives you one last chance
-----
If the Fed pauses it will be $56 WTI or an international meltdown

EURUSD 1.1568

Look at EURGBP (firmer) for the driver of this EURUSD pop, which is still holding the 1.1573 high (beware of 3rd tests) . If this gets broken, then next AT target is 1.1594.

On the downside, 1.1533 is the key support and 1.1550 sets the tone. For day traders, 1.1557 is the level that needs to hold to keep the current risk pointed up.

Imagine that now Trumpushke is screaming on the phone to PPT:. ..

OTOH
An immediate upward correction will demonstrate market resiliency, to show it doesn't count the FED at all.

Strong upward correction close to election time, will look suspicious as pre-election manipulation. May draw criticism.

President Trump throwing a fit at jerome is dramatic posturing for the great unwashed and pure comedy for the professionals. Delusions of Trump screaming at PPT are just expressions of naivite and wishful thinking whatever that wishful thinking is. Jerome is doing the right thing - sofar - but remaining quiet.

US CPI to come in lower than expected as Trump says there is no inflation and the FED is crazy .

Trump doesn't know what inflation is . Doubling the membership fee of a Trump golf club is inflationary ?

much more effective would be to hold the market at 10-15% correction and then towards end of month start to rally it, first slowly and then a burst of strength into Nov/4.... that will impress voters most.

""Get Stox back rising""!!!

At this time U30 is rejected twice off 25,475 Res/Sup, where next immediate support is at 24,900.
But the ability to regulate this index by PPT is legendary.

A close above 25475, will signal a chance for a reversal.

Gold immediate Res. 1200.

Your Sweet Spot Indicator

We have incorporated one of my favorite indicators into trading with the Amazing Trader. I call it trading in the sweet spot, which is a time when the market is least likely to see a sustained move against the prevailing episode or trend. You can see the implications and will learn how the Amazing Trader fits in with this indicator.

CRAZY FED

Paul Donovan

"US President Trump suggested the Fed is tightening policy too much, and is crazy. That is one interpretation. Another interpretation is that running real interest rates that are barely positive, at a time of full employment and with a deficit financed tax cut is not necessarily an excessively tight policy. "

Looks like crazy fed buying US stock index futures this morning.

Crazy Trump . With a US economy growing above 4% , $ 22 TRILLION
national debt and a yearly budget deficit above $ 1 trillion ,

US interest should be way higher than the 2% where the crazy fed puts it rate .

Let the market set interest rates instead of the LOCO FED.
