In potentially groundbreaking news - which failed to generate a market response as it hit at the same time as the FOMC statement - Saudi Arabia’s top government-funded think tank is said to be studying the possible effects on oil markets of a breakup of OPEC, a research effort which the WSJ called "remarkable" for a country that has dominated the oil cartel for nearly 60 years.

As part of watch "what they do not what they say" - the Money supply and the Balance sheet info on Thursdays tells a tale about the Fed actions

GVI Trader john 19:05 GMT November 8, 2018
Thursday Trading Checklist 8 November 2018

Information received since the Federal Open Market Committee met in August indicates that the labor market has continued to strengthen and that economic activity has been rising at a strong rate. Job gains have been strong, on average, in recent months, and the unemployment rate has stayed low. Household spending and business fixed investment have grown strongly. On a 12-month basis, both overall inflation and inflation for items other than food and energy remain near 2 percent. Indicators of longer-term inflation expectations are little changed, on balance.

Consistent with its statutory mandate, the Committee seeks to foster maximum employment and price stability. The Committee expects that further gradual increases in the target range for the federal funds rate will be consistent with sustained expansion of economic activity, strong labor market conditions, and inflation near the Committee's symmetric 2 percent objective over the medium term. Risks to the economic outlook appear roughly balanced.

In view of realized and expected labor market conditions and inflation, the Committee decided to raise the target range for the federal funds rate to 2 to 2-1/4 percent.

In determining the timing and size of future adjustments to the target range for the federal funds rate, the Committee will assess realized and expected economic conditions relative to its maximum employment objective and its symmetric 2 percent inflation objective. This assessment will take into account a wide range of information, including measures of labor market conditions, indicators of inflation pressures and inflation expectations, and readings on financial and international developments.

Voting for the FOMC monetary policy action were: Jerome H. Powell, Chairman; John C. Williams, Vice Chairman; Thomas I. Barkin; Raphael W. Bostic; Lael Brainard; Richard H. Clarida; Esther L. George; Loretta J. Mester; and Randal K. Quarles.

EURUSD ran through upside stops on this

ECB's Draghi: we are now at the point where we anticipate that we will end net asset purchases at the end of the year

- The financial stability environment in the euro area overall remains favourable, but it has become somewhat more challenging in recent months.

- While we are now at the point where we anticipate – subject to incoming data confirming our medium-term inflation outlook
– that we will end net asset purchases at the end of the year, significant monetary stimulus will still be needed to ensure the continued sustained convergence of inflation to levels that are below, but close to, 2% over the medium term
- The latest incoming information overall suggests that the broad-based expansion in the euro area, and in Ireland, is set to continue.

- Inflation to continue to converge towards goal - Significant monetary stimulus will still be needed

See below for a post from the GVI Forex (Amazing Trader) Forum yesterday. Low today was .8690, so a failure to test .8680 has seen a bounce.

Current Amazing Trader resistance .8733 and .8746 so just a correction so far.

Bearish pattern, Key AT EURGBP support zone is at .8680-.8712. Below .8680 would expose .8620 as next key AT support.

UK Foreign Minister Hunt: Brexit deal within the next 7 days would be pushing it - Source TradeTheNews.com

UK JY 10:49 GMT November 8, 2018
Trading

Brexit trumps (pun) everything else right now and there is an increasing headline risk over the weekend as it has been for the past few weekends.

This suggests to me that it will be hard to position in gbp for over the weekend unless your wager is for a pro Brexit response although my guess is that those with positions are already long (vs eur). .

Surprise risk would be any backlash against May's Brexit deal.
