Australia Aims to Crash the Property Market
From a little speech by the Assistant Governor (Financial Markets), at Australia's Reserve Bank:
"The primary channel through which foreign interest rates influence Australian conditions is through the exchange rate.... A depreciation of the Australian dollar in turn will tend to enhance the competitiveness of our exporters, including those services priced in Australian dollars like tourism and education. Through various channels, exchange rate depreciation can also loosen financial conditions in Australia"
discussing Australia's reliance on foreign capital (hedged in Australian dollar terms) and the impact of the housing market debacle.
All up it seems the RBA prefers the heavy lifting to be done by the exchange rate. That is they will let the AUD go..... down. :-)

I was watching USDJPY as stocks staged a rally ( stalled below the Amazing Trader target zone) and it was not correlating strongly. This was s clue to be cautious on the stock rally.

Another "warning" to the FED from WARSH and DRUCKENMILLER in WSJ (join Gundlach) -- it was never going to be easy leaving the MONEY SWAMP -- BUT c'mon there are a lot of culprits besides interest rate levels affecting stats// Does anybody really think rates are HIGH? e.g, Real estate -- location location, insufficient infrastructure (including labor), high price for land, regulation and BANKS scared by prior experience of overvaluation restricting credit -- the low rates of last few years have moved PRICES to unsustainable level so buyers and banks pull back (sub 5% mortgage rate STILL - too high?)
Ignore the headlines and failed expectations -- look inside the numbers for reasons other than the FED -- rates are still too LOW
