The employees at Amazon and Google have already protested about US military contracts (or potential contracts) with respect to AWS and Google Maps. The fact is that a lot of the employees at those firms are real big on the whole "we are changing the world" thing, but shy away from money-making opportunities that involve distasteful things like military applications.

This is said by some to be one of the reasons that the latest US government contract went to Microsoft rather than Amazon. Amazon is protesting the contract award in court, but I doubt that this latest action will help their case. Every company who considers hosting their business with AWS will now need to account for political risk, plus have special contracts written with very specific terms of service. These employees who thought that "they would change the world" may be in for a rude awakening...the world will change them.

Parler CEO John Matze has issued a statement:

Sunday at midnight Amazon will be shutting off all of our servers in an attempt to completely remove free speech off the internet. There is the possibility Parler will be unavailable on the internet for up to a week as we rebuild from scratch. We prepared for events like this by never relying on amazons proprietary infrastructure and building bare metal products.

We will try our best to move to a new provider right now as we have many competing for our business, however Amazon, Google and Apple purposefully did this as a coordinated effort knowing our options would be limited and knowing this would inflict the most damage right as President Trump was banned from the tech companies.

This was a coordinated attack by the tech giants to kill competition in the market place. We were too successful too fast. You can expect the war on competition and free speech to continue, but don’t count us out.

"Free Speech" (any definition) is not a great reason to short those stocks. However, loss of trust is.

All those companies have F***ED their shareholders and their employees. What business or individual with any sanity would host their critical infrastructure with Google, Apple or Facebook now that they have shown how willing they are to turn things off at a whim? Without due process? Because "the employees demanded it"?

I used to do consulting jobs with a major IT outsourcing firm. That kind of behavior would not be tolerated, nor should it be. If you drive away customers, your a** is canned...period. It doesn't matter if you are a low-level grunt, or a high-level executive (as is probably the case with the Silicon Valley firms). Money is not what drives the world, and certainly not the Internet...it is TRUST. Squander it at your peril.
