oh oh ouugh.. ahead of his speech.
why ... no "let me sniff your hair" around strong enough to get senile joe's get up 'n goat to read from his teleprompter ?
President-elect Joe Biden on Thursday rolled out a coronavirus relief plan with a price tag of $1.9 trillion, a sweeping measure that includes cash payments to Americans and money for distributing COVID-19 vaccines.

Biden’s team released the plan ahead of his speech that was due to take place at 7:15 p.m. Eastern in Wilmington, Del. The address comes less than a week before he’s slated to be inaugurated as president, and a day after the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump for a historic second time.

The plan calls for increasing direct payments to $2,000 from the $600 already hitting bank accounts, meaning stimulus checks of $1,400 would go out.

Powell meh, next, OPEX firday.

Options driven melt-up this time not in Tech but in the energy Sector.
As noted this week by ZeroHedge:

'Earlier this week, we showed why the energy sector in general, and the largest energy company in particular - Exxon - were set for a major melt up: simply said, the gamma melt up that dominated the tech space had shifted to energy stocks.

For those who don't, on Tuesday we asked readers if they recalled the "gamma squeeze" in various tech names amid the unprecedented Robinhood/SoftBank call buying frenzy from the summer/late 2020? Well, while SoftBank's market manipulation unit may have been "incapacitated" for the time being after suffering major losses, the record call buying has continued into 2021 as retail daytraders have put their $600 (and soon $2000) "stimmy" checks to "good" use. In fact, just last week we saw that 4th and 5th highest call volume days in history!'

think he wanted to leave it in no uncertain terms that they can tame any over inflation. as u said its important mkt believes this so saying it probably amounts to that. fed playing both sides here saying they got both the top and bottom sides if needs be.

Mtl JP 17:57 GMT January 14, 2021

interesting: powell expressed confidence AND threat of using ("no-one should doubt that") in fed having tools to counter an exuberant take-off in inflation should it try to occur

london red 17:53 GMT January 14, 2021

one time increase in prices unlikely to mean rise in underlying inflation.
so when yields rise in march/april may in reaction to higher cpi prints, he/others from fed will reiterate that sentence calling it transitory. but until then, i think you draw a line through 10yr yield chart and buy lower prints while selling spikes higher if high enough to be well away from trendline.

JP that is the one and only risk to higher assets. but mkt will give them a pass for this year (transitory) as long as inflation isnt rocketing higher above 3%. it can be around 3 aand that would be fine. but 4-5% and climbing will be hard for fed to sweep under the carpet. but thats an oulier. i cant see it. i see up to 3% and mkt giving a pass for the year. next year is open to question but u start with a higher bar, probably, so inflation runaway not a certainty either.

red - demand is only one part of equation. supply is other part.
maximum demand recovery could be around 6 million barrels daily. this very very optimistic expectation.
on supply side there is around 10-15 million barrels currently idle, waiting demand to recover. at least 2 m/b from US, 2 M/b from Russia, at least 3 m/b from Saudis. not talking about Iran, venezuela, etc.
currently saudis are trying to keep uptrend intact by massively working behind the scenes but every 5 dollars higher the price more US oil is coming back.
right now plan is to go up to 60.00 on brent then back to 45 and then up to 70,00. but this 60-70 range will push US production above 13 million barrels per day. this number mean Russia will not participate anymore in this "dream" OPEC+ cartell.
so 35-70 is range this year. Im not sure if above 70 is possible. then euro needs to trade above 1,4000.

Platts´s reporting that combined, the entire coalition's conformity level was 98.5%, down from 100.1% in November, according to Platts calculations.
As Libya numbers not in OPEC+ calculations then real compliance falls to 75%.

The sharp rise in OPEC output was mainly down to Libya, whose production rose to its highest in six-and-a-half years, the survey found.

Libya pumped 1.18 million b/d last month, up 150,000 b/d from November. The North African producer has managed to add more than 1 million b/d in the last three months after its two warring factions -- the UN-backed Government of National Accord and the self-styled Libyan National Army -- agreed a peace deal.

Libya, Iran and Venezuela are exempt from quotas under the deal, so the massive wave of Libyan production does not impact the OPEC+ alliance's compliance figure. But it does complicate the group's ability to keep a firm grip on its supply.
