It�s tempting to think that Fed Chairman Jerome Powell deserves the pickle he�s in: He ignored inflation as �transitory� when it wasn�t. Now � after one of the biggest policy blunders in recent Fed history � he needs to raise interest rates, maybe significantly.

White House and EU nations announce expulsion of 'selected Russian banks' from SWIFT

Selected targeting will only result in rerouting of message traffic among the remaining banks in Russia who are still connected to the system. You have to hit all the banks or none of them...there is no in-between.

In the language of wire transfers, maybe SWIFT could ban correspondent and intermediary messaging to and from Russia, but is that even possible?
