Why Do We Respond to Gamification?
Meta: What is gamification and why do we respond to it so rapidly? Click here to learn more about this interesting concept.
Gamification is one of those human behaviours that we all indulge in but don’t always recognise if we aren’t looking at it. However, once you do realise what is going on, you suddenly become aware of just how much we do like to respond to acts of gamification. Let’s take a closer look at this phenomenon here.

What is Gamification?
This concept sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is. Gamification is when we take a task or project that we have to fulfil and we break it down to make a game out of it. Humans often do this as an act of self-motivation, and many of us have our own tips and tricks to help us get on track with what we are supposed to be doing.
For example, have you ever made yourself a checklist? If you have a lot of things to plan and don’t want to leave anything out – such as if you are packing for a holiday – then you might make a list and check things off to ensure you don’t forget them. Creating the list and then checking things off is the part of this task that could be considered gamification.
Where Do We See It?
Gamification appears everywhere, we just don’t always recognise it. Most of the time it is imposed on us by ourselves as a way to break something down and make it easier to handle. However, you do also sometimes see it at work in wider society.
From collecting bonuses at an online casino to a friendly AI bot on your favourite Forex app, there are many instances where we could see gamification influencing us from the outside. It is a great way for businesses to get their consumers to engage with their products or services.
Why Do We Respond to It?
To put it simply, the human brain enjoys searching and responding to patterns. We are geared to investigate and make sense of the world as best as we can, and a crucial part of this will always come down to our ability to spot patterns when they appear in front of us.
Gamification can challenge us and will present us with these patterns. It is not always about fun, as sometimes gamification is used to help get us through unpleasant tasks, but it can help to keep us on the right track and pushing through until things are complete.
If you are searching for a way to make things more manageable for yourself, you should definitely consider gamification. This is just one of many small tricks that you can do to make your approach to various tasks that bit easier. On top of this, you can frequently find that gamification appears throughout the world in more places than you ever would have thought. Take a look at the world around you, and try to identify some of the places where you can see gamification in action. There will be more than you imagine!
