Shares of ConocoPhillips (COP) fell 4% Thursday after the company missed fourth-quarter profit expectations and lowered its dividend. The company reported a net loss of $3.5 billion , or a loss of $2.78 per share, wider than a net loss of $39 million , or a loss of 3 cents per share, in the year-earlier period.

"While we don’t know how far commodity prices will fall, or the duration of the downturn, we believe it’s prudent to plan for lower prices for a longer period of time."

Oil-field service company Weatherford International PLC(WFT) said Wednesday that it planned to continuing cutting jobs in the face of the sector's lingering downturn and would slash about 15% of its already reduced workforce.
Weatherford, one of the largest oil-field service companies in the world, said it would eliminate 6,000 position from a workforce of about 39,500. The cuts are slated to be made in the first half of 2016. In 2015, the company reduced its headcount by 14,000.
"We have just completed what is probably the most challenging year in our history," said Bernard J. Duroc-Danner , CEO of the company."

london red  11:33:42 GMT - 02/04/2016
cable. the MC is in the house shortly. mkt is wondering whether mpc will reduce inflation and growth forecasts a bit but also whether boe member maccafferty, the only one to have voted consistently for a 25bps hike, will rein in his enthusiam and fall in with the rest of the crowd, yielding a 9-0 unchanged vote.
if we get something along those lines, there should be some short term weakness towards 14500/13 but mkt likely to buy this dip. topside there is the broken channel on wkly/mnthly at 14700/05 before a couple of fibs at 14784/14811. thats probably as much as it could see today but if euro gets another shot in the pipe and those cable fibs are taken, the 50% of 159/140 comes in a whisker above 1.50 and should be a good pt to sell ahead of fridays nfp which should see some profit taking ahead of that data.

TOKYO -- The Bank of Japan will limit the scope of its newly introduced negative interest rate to a small portion of financial institutions' current-account deposits -- between 10 trillion yen and 30 trillion yen ($84.5 billion to $253 billion), The Nikkei has learned.

The amount will represent no more than a tenth or so of the total. The BOJ reckons that even a narrow application of its new monetary easing tool will spur banks to lend and invest.

Bank shares plunged after the policy change was introduced last week. The BOJ is trying to give the stock market a sense of the size of the impact on financial industry earnings.

Bank of Japan Negative interest rate's scope seen capped at 30tn yen

futures are pricing in a mild cut this year before any hike in 2017. the cut may not come but hikes are a long way off. cable has been rerated due to some better news on the brexit front, slightly better data and essentially it had met a lot of folks initial tgt on the downside and was oversold.

fresh more meddling in markets news out of China:
- lower the minimum downpayment requirement for first-time home buyers (luring new pigeons into unsold units)
- stepped up administrative measures to control capital outflows
- SAFE has capped purchases of insurance products overseas with UnionPay debit and credit cards at USD 5,000 per transaction
- lowered USD/CNY fixing to 6.5510 yesterday from 6.5539 on Monday
---
I like the key idea whether their capital control efforts succeed in the end? ironically... if it's even 60-70% successful, then all the property bubbles around the world will pop hard.
