GBPUSD, which closed last week on a firm in what turned out to be a relief rally, sharply reversed direction this week as the forex market turned defensive. The catalyst was said to be London Mayor Boris Johnson joining the Brexit camp and a poll showing a near dead heat with 25% undecided. GBPUSD hit a 7 year low on Wednesday at 1.3878 before staging a modest recovery.
What I found curious is that UK stocks have not shown the same sense of concern.

As an aside -- the decision of to be in or out may be the most consequential for currency traders since Nixon's Bretton Woods demise - the EUR (and the EU) is one of the do-gooder ideas that is under attack on more than one front

I believe it would be more revealing if two questions were posed:
1. If you could vote in the referendum would you chose to stay or leave?
and
2. What do you believe will be the result.
I'd vote to leave but I believe the result will be to stay.

Some folks (even in Britain) consider that the UK only punches above its weight because of its EU membership - this disregards history and the military (nuclear) status of the UK
Of Irish heritage I have no favor of the English but the UK has a scope of influence of political and economic effect that no European country can match - by any rational measure it is the 4th to 6th power in the world
For it to weigh its sovereignty versus some ambiguous economic benefit means that the next few months will be volatile beyond any CB decision
