Trading Themes--
  • Rhe USD is trading mixed early in Europe on Friday while equities are mostly lower. Flash PMI data have been mixed so far today with manufacturing data higher, but service weaker. All are in expansion.

  • The North American session features key Canadian releases (Retail Sales and CPI).

  • As the dust settles on the Fed decision, dealers say markets say markets are fast adjusting to the prospect of less aggressive than expected Fed policy tightening. This is good for stocks and bad for the USD.

Trading Themes--
  • The EURUSD traded mostly sideways Thursday. USDJPY gained modestly over the day following the Fed and ECB. Friday features a more active calendar, with a slew of flash PMI readings and key Canadian releases (Retail Sales and CPI).

  • As the dust settles on the Fed decision, dealers say markets say markets are fast adjusting to the prospect of less aggressive than expected Fed policy tightening. This is good for stocks and bad for the USD.

  • The policy decision by the Bank of Japan remains confusing. Many who understand the general concept are scrambling for the specific details of the plan. If nothing else, it will get the Bank of Japan out of the limelight for a couple of years while this latest experiment is being tested out. Let me be the first to say it probably will not work. Its my best guess that agents of government have been intervening in USDJPY to put a floor under this pair at the 100 line.
