As Americans in America remember the First Man Landing on the Moon, Nikita "we will bury you" Khrushchev, is laughing in his grave.

According to Colorado State University’s “Inclusive Language Guide,” students are advised to avoid the words “America” and “American.” Why exactly has the university deemed these words offensive? The guide argues that these words erase “other cultures and depicts the United States as the dominant American country.”

Colorado State University: Words ‘America,’ ‘Americans’ Are Offensive

The new leadership team of the EU is insane.
Merkel, now having no political future to protect, as her last act of betrayal to Germany engineered the ‘election’ of Ursula von der Leyen to replace Jean-Claude “When things get tough you have to lie” Juncker as European Commission President.

Von der Leyen is more of a euro-integrationist than Juncker was.
It’s clear they circled the wagons knowing that, as Nigel Farage points out in this clip, the EU will look nothing like it does now in five years when her term is up.
Just like the EU today looks nothing like it did in 2014 when Juncker took over.

So, it’s time to go for broke and push for everything before it all falls apart. But the trends are clear. von der Leyen is the past and Nigel Farage is the future of Europe.

New EU Is Even More Insane Than The Old EU

interesting.

While some commentators are trying to spin this emerging re-orientation in global affairs as a mere “trick to get re-elected”, the reality goes much deeper than many realize, as Trump is merely tapping into an American strategy which was firmly established during the 1941-1944 presidential term of America’s President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his loyal collaborator Henry A. Wallace who had planned a grand design for a US-Russia-China New world order founded upon principles enshrined in the Atlantic Charter and enunciated in his 1942 “Century of the Common Man” speech.

They raised rates too soon, too often, & tightened, while others did just the opposite.... ....As well as we are doing from the day after the great Election, when the Market shot right up, it could have been even better - massive additional wealth would have been created, & used very well. Our most difficult problem is not our competitors, it is the Federal Reserve!

A version on Mushroom Farming
(keep 'em in the dark and feed 'em sh!t)
from The Economist:

Evolutionary road
The Federal Reserve is reviewing its monetary-policy framework
It is trying to manage expectations

Jun 6th 2019 - CHICAGO
“Most of america thinks the Federal Reserve is a national forest.” That reminder that the general public has little idea what a central banker does was offered by an incumbent governor of the Federal Reserve to Alan Blinder when he joined in 1994. He passed it on 25 years later, on June 4th, to a star-studded group of economists and policymakers gathered at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago to discuss the Fed’s first public review of its framework.

The review is a year-long exploration of how the Fed should adapt to trying economic times. It typically slashes interest rates by around five percentage points in a recession. But chronically low rates mean that it now has less than half of that room for manoeuvre. The Fed is seeking to answer three questions. Should it update its forward-looking inflation target to consider past inflation too? Should its toolkit be expanded? And could it communicate and implement its policies better?

What connects all three is the difficulty of managing expectations. At the effective lower bound, where interest rates are at or very near to zero, the Fed cannot simply slash short-term rates. It must either try other sorts of interventions in financial markets—or make promises and hope they are believed. In theoretical models, such expectation management can be extraordinarily powerful. If the Fed can convince consumers that it will maintain loose monetary policy, they may open their wallets, thereby helping to end the slump.

Lars Svensson of the Stockholm School of Economics argued for an average inflation target, on the grounds that it could move inflation expectations in the right direction when interest rates hit the lower bound and would be relatively easy to communicate. It could also allow the Fed to rely less on big financial interventions such as quantitative easing, which other speakers warned could mean risks to financial stability building up.

A move in that direction seems possible. But it seems unlikely that the Fed will eventually decide that a radical rethink is needed. In part, that is because of mounting evidence that its tools did not perform so badly last time round. Janice Eberly of Northwestern University, James Stock of Harvard University and Jonathan Wright of Johns Hopkins University argued that from 2012 the Fed’s actions contributed meaningfully to the recovery, and indeed could be implemented even more aggressively to speed up future recoveries. And Eric Sims and Jing Cynthia Wu of the University of Notre Dame argued that there is more scope to replace conventional policy with quantitative easing than with either forward guidance or negative interest rates.

Jerome Powell, the Fed’s chairman, emphasised that he was coming to the review with an open mind. But he also said that in the depths of the crisis policymakers had “major questions” about whether promising good times ahead “would really have moved the hearts, minds, and pocketbooks of the public”.

That doubt is scary for central bankers, whose power comes from their credibility. Perhaps in the current calm the public could be readied for a recession-busting exercise in persuasion. But however earnestly a Fed governor pledges to boost inflation in slumps, a successor may tighten if inflation surges. It is therefore reasonable to doubt that the Fed can keep its promises. The danger for central bankers is that they try to manage expectations, fail—and leave their credibility in tatters.

Washington Post has assigned 20 reporters to look into every aspect of Donald Trump's past as the presumptive GOP nominee seeks to become the next president of the United States, famed Post associate editor, Bob Woodward, said Wednesday.

"There's a lot we don't know," Woodward told the National Association of Realtors convention, according to The Washington Examiner. "We have 20 people working on Trump, we're going to do a book, we're doing articles about every phase of his life."

Woodward himself is looking into Trump's real estate deals, he said, saying that "The New York real estate world is more complex than the CIA."

Woodward said Jeff Bezos, the Post's publisher and a Democratic Party donor, has urged the paper to cover all of the candidates thoroughly.
"He said, 'Look, the job at The Washington Post has to be tell us everything about who the eventual nominee will be in both parties, 15-part, 16-part series, 20-part series, we want to look at every part of their lives and we're never going get the whole story of course but we can get the best attainable,'" Woodward said.

____________
The outcome of that was two Americas: the hipsterocracy of the coastal elites and the suicidal deplorables of Flyoverland. The hipsterocracy sustains itself on the manufactured hallucinations of the holographic economy — that is, on the production of images, TV psychodramas, news media narratives, status competitions, public relations campaigns, law firm machinations, awards ceremonies, and other signaling systems to maintain the illusion that the financialized economy has everything under control as we transform into a nirvana of ultra high tech pleasure-seeking and endless leisure.

Meanwhile, out in Flyoverland, the holograms aren’t selling so well anymore. Nobody has the scratch to pay for them, not even those indentured to the neo-feudal empires of WalMart and Amazon. The children keep coming, though it’s nearly impossible for a man to support them, and increasingly the fathers just take themselves out of the picture. The women ferment in single-parent hopelessness. The children turn more feral by each generation. All remaining economic opportunity is diverted back into the leveraged buy-out mills of the Coastal Elsewhere. Even growing food out of the land was long ago converted into an Agri-Biz hustle based on practices with no future. And now the spring weather is drowning out that hustle and driving the corporatized farms into bankruptcy.

The two Americas have turned a formerly workable political system into a divorce court

Re: Odds on the Race. lol

Sat May 4, 2019.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Maximum Security led all the way in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, only to become the first winner disqualified for interference in the race’s 145-year history. After a long wait, 65-1 shot Country House was declared the winner.

Country House finished second in the slop before an objection was raised, causing a lengthy delay while stewards repeatedly reviewed several angles of video footage, before he was elevated into the winner’s circle.

The stunning outcome gave Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott his first Derby victory at age 65.

“It feels pretty darn good,” Mott said. “It was an odd way to do it and we hate to back into any of these things. We’ll just have to prove ourselves in the future.”

Jockey Flavien Prat, who originated the claim of foul, also won his first Derby.
“I’m kind of speechless right now,” Prat said, letting out a long sigh.

Country House paid $132.40 to win — the second-highest payout in Derby history.

It was a crushing turn of events for Maximum Security trainer Jason Servis and jockey Luis Saez, who already had begun celebrating what they thought were their first Derby victories.

As US stocks have powered to fresh all-time highs, the health-care sector has emerged as a pariah for investors, as burgeoning support for 'Medicare for All' among the Democratic contenders for 2020 - part of an overall shift to the far-left for the party as a whole - has caused panic to set it.
All it took was a few formerly moderate candidates like Kamala Harris to follow Sanders' lead and embrace Medicare for All, and holders of managed-care stocks were stuck with a $300 billion loss.

Bottom line: When President Trump warned ahead of the midterms that if Americans want to see the market and economy tank, they should vote Democrat, he was - once again - right. What's worse: At this point, progressive Democrats wouldn't even need to win to crash the market. They would only need to poll high enough to give investors a real scare.

The new law forbids the California secretary of state from printing a candidate’s name on the ballot if the required tax returns have not been supplied. The candidate may still run though, and people may still vote for them – by write-in ballot – in a laughable sop to sticklers for the right to vote and run for office, consistent with the Constitution.

Is this rule constitutional? Aside from any jurist on the Ninth Circus, the answer is no.

At his press conference today, the Federal Reserve’s Chair (no more “man”) reiterated his new redline. Inflation is down again, unexpectedly, but it will surely pop right back up. What’s holding it back are some new “transitory” factors (mentioning airline tickets and financial services) that have, unexpectedly, replaced the old set of transitory factors.

You may have noticed how there has been an almost continuous string of transitory factors that strung together add up to this persisting undershoot. Powell even had the nerve to use a form of that very word...

from two leading cretins leading the cretins pack:

‘Massive reallocation of capital’ needed to address climate change, warns Bank of England governor Mark Carney - APRIL 18, 2019
The Network for Greening the Financial System recommended that central banks and financial regulators take immediate steps to assess the broad risks to the financial sector from climate change.

POOL/Reuters

The global financial sector is going to have to engineer a “massive reallocation of capital” in order to meet the challenges of climate change, and industries and companies that fail to adjust will die, Bank of England Governor Mark Carney and François Villeroy de Galhau, Governor of the Bank of France, warn in an open letter.

The two central bankers released a report this week that called for greater government oversight over mounting climate-related risks that could threaten the stability of the financial system. The report was issued Wednesday by the Network for Greening the Financial System, a group of more than 30 central banks and financial regulators that includes the Bank of Canada, which endorsed the report on Thursday.

In the letter posted on the Bank of England and Bank of France websites, the two governors say the world is already experiencing “enormous human and financial costs” from climate change, and will be compelled to reduce greenhouse gas emissions dramatically in the coming three decades.

“This requires a massive reallocation of capital,” they wrote. “If some companies and industries fail to adjust to this new world, they will fail to exist.”

The Network for Greening the Financial System recommended that central banks and financial regulators take immediate steps to assess the broad risks to the financial sector from climate change, include the destruction of property from severe weather events and the impact on firms, their lenders and their investors from a transition to a lower-carbon economy.

The Bank of Canada announced last month that it joined the global network and will be undertaking research on the climate-related risks to the broader economy and the financial sector specifically. The Bank of Canada agrees with the recommendations in the network report, spokeswoman Louise Egan said Thursday. Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz said recently the bank is most concerned about exposure of banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions "to assets that may be negatively impacted by climate change trends.”

The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) – which regulates banks and insurance companies – is anticipating a report from an international task force on climate-related financial disclosure and will work with the federal government to respond to its recommendations, spokeswoman Annik Faucher said. “Generally, as with all risks, OSFI expects financial institutions to review their climate risk exposures, and institutions can take steps in regard to climate change that are in line with their risk appetite and corporate culture,” Ms. Faucher said in an e-mail Thursday.

The warning from Mr. Carney and Mr. Villeroy de Galhau comes as Canadians face a pitched political battle between federal and provincial governments over climate change and the policies needed to meet the country’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030.

Jason Kenney, Alberta’s premier-designate, plans to scrap that province’s carbon tax on consumers, ease the levy on large industrial emitters in the oil sands, and remove a cap on future oil sands emissions put in place by the former NDP government. In Ontario, Premier Doug Ford has launched a multimillion-dollar campaign, including radio ads and a court challenge, to oppose the federal carbon tax, and rolled back more ambitious emissions-reduction targets of the province’s former Liberal government.

Jackie Forrest, vice-president at ARC Energy Institute, said as much as US$90-trillion in global capital is being put to work that takes into account environmental, social and governance factors. “It’s becoming a very significant amount of capital that is investing with ESG principles in mind,” she said.

Ms. Forrest said those companies that have already cut emissions are likely to extend those efforts regardless of government policies. “I generally think that, because of investor pressure, you’re going to continue to see companies want to reduce their carbon footprint,” she said.

Travis Wood, analyst at National Bank Financial in Calgary, said the industry has made progress in reducing the energy required to pump oil sands crude, lowering per-barrel emissions and compliance costs tied to provincial climate policies set by the previous NDP government.

“The bigger risk is what it looks like on these issues externally,” he said. Large institutional investors face pressure to stress-test holdings for climate risks. Some have divested from oil indiscriminately. The industry could face further pressure should Alberta substantially weaken regulations. “I think it might be a step backwards,” he said.

... a move which will achieve two goals: first, MMT will be tried - unsuccessfully - in the next 2-4 years, resulting in soaring asset prices, hyperinflation and the collapse of the reserve currency, and second and more important, lead to the eventual and long overdue end of the Federal Reserve, which will at that point become the laughing stock of central banks around the board. Considering that Trump's core campaign promise was to "clear out the DC Swamp", we believes that he should seriously consider our suggestion.

Is not good to know that "Fed lacks tools to address financial risks outside banking sector" ?

The best way to address vulnerabilities is not to use interest rates but to use “macroprudential policy,” Adrian said.

“But if you don’t have the macroprudential tools, then what do you do? Well, then it might become a monetary policy consideration at some point,” Adrian said.

I note that neither Brookings, nor ECB or the IMF (to name a few) include legislation of "price controls" as a macro-prudential tool.

I don't know what tone Dimon would take, but I know how I would (re)act if I were in his position and had his level of experience and training. I would make every attempt to be polite and civil, with the internal (as in don't say a word) understanding that I'm dealing with an idiot (Waters) and a child (AOC).

Although Waters and AOC may provide ample amusement, the real discussion will probably take place with the rest of the committee. Since Dimon has been around the longest (before the last round of bank scandals), he'll be on the hot seat for those real questions.

For the first time since 2009, the CEOs of America's largest banks will gather in Washington to testify before the House Financial Services Committee, which in the new era of Democratic control has fallen under the sway of some of the chamber's most progressive, anti-business members - case in point: Chairwoman Maxine Waters, who hopes to make the excoriation of Wall Street fatcats a hallmark of her tenure.

To say that Wednesday's hearing is expected to be highly dramatic would be an understatement. As both moderate Democrats and Republicans have privately groused, a free-for-all with 60 lawmakers and seven executives isn't exactly an environment conducive to substantive policy discussions. And that's likely by design.

He opened an office in the City of London which transmitted stock market quotations between London and Paris via the new Calais-Dover cable. Two years earlier he had used pigeons to fly stock prices between Aachen and Brussels – The Guardian

The switch from pigeons to underwater cable reflected three elements :
Paul Julius' personality
speed of (r)evolutionary technological change
market's hunger for speed in order to be able to swiftly react to events

It remains an open question how the pigeons felt about being replaced. One thing that is sure is that market participants were delighted by the speedier news delivery so as to be able to rapidly react to events.

The real kicker in tech evolution came however with the advent of computer data centers. This is where trading has come in for a major change : most trades executed by computers. These trades are highly automated on extremely rapid and massive calculations.
The time it takes a human trader to read a headline, computer makes thousand + trades.

The Bottom Line
is that a human stands no chance competing in reacting to news.

Hence the advent of algo (rythmic) trading : smartly coded computerized trading running on peak-tech networked hardware designed for optimal crunching of big numbers inside time measured in millionths of a second, designed to act upon minute movements in prices, jumping on a fractional up or down price move looking for large returns in very short time.

Patterns

Other algos are tuned to trying to predict the next directional price movement in a currency pair from a detailed and in-depth understanding of the past – in other words by looking for patterns on which to attempt to make a low risk bet.

In either case what that means is that a modern player needs a combination of right algorithm, fast computing power and fast connection to identify and react to the different opportunities for which it is designed be it specific time(s) or specific pattern(s).

Next time,
maybe, I will discuss the differences between manual human vs algo-robotic trading and when, where and how one can find an opportunity to take advantage of the other and vice versa.

Over the week-end , Atlanta FED's Raphael "hopeful" Bostic (PhD Stanford U) issued the following threat in his "The Case for an Ample Reserves Monetary Policy Framework" yak :

Regarding the funds rate, you all no doubt noticed an announcement on Wednesday in addition to the one concerning balance sheet policy. I'd like to guard against misinterpretation of what the FOMC means by patience. There has been some commentary suggesting that the Committee's intention to be patient in adjusting the target range is a definitive signal that there are no circumstances under which we would increase the policy rate for the remainder of the year. To my way of thinking, that is not an accurate conclusion. I do not view this patient approach as constraining the Committee's options. We may move up; we may move down. I am open to all possibilities as we aim to support sustained economic expansion, strong labor market conditions, and inflation near the Committee's symmetric 2 percent objective. Markets should understand that, so I hope I have made my position clear

Top-ranking Democrat, and House Judiciary Committee Chairman, Jerry Nadler did the rounds of Sunday's political shows this morning but it wasn't until he reached the safety of CNN that he decided to unleash his 'facts' in response to the narrative-crushing conclusions reached by special counsel Robert Mueller.

"We know there was collusion," Nadler insisted several times during an appearance on CNN's "State of the Union" while shrugging off Mueller's apparent facts - "Why there's been no indictments, we don't know."

MSM rolling out guns against market participants getting Recession fever:

What the Yield Curve Inversion Really Means, According to the Professor Who Discovered It - Barron's

below the gate, Campbell claims in part:
"I have been analyzing the yield curve for more than 30 years—my 1986 dissertation at the University of Chicago showed that an inverted yield curve, where short-term rates are higher than long-term rates, led to a recession within 12–18 months. Since then, what researchers call “out-of-sample evidence” has validated my model. Since the publication of my dissertation, the model is 4 out of 4. There have been no false signals to date. The joke that an indicator has forecast 11 of the last four recessions does not apply here.

Importantly, my model argues that a yield curve inversion must be realized for a full quarter—not merely a few days. So we are not quite there—but the trend suggests we will soon be there. ... .. ... Turning points are difficult to forecast often because we want to good economic times to continue. However, the evidence is becoming overwhelming. The inversion of the yield curve today is yet another reminder that nothing, not even impressive economic growth and 3.8% unemployment, lasts forever."

“Significant monetary policy stimulus will continue to be provided by forward guidance on the key ECB interest rates, reinforced by the re-investments of the sizable stock of acquired assets and the new series of TLTROs,” said Mario Draghi, tightening his neck brace and abruptly throwing Europe’s central bank into reverse.

Just 2 months after ending 4yrs of quantitative easing, Europe’s central bank flipped back into easing mode. With overnight interest rates still at -0.40% no one quite knows why the policies of the past didn’t work, or what will happen next. And everyone is wondering what exactly is wrong with Europe?

Unlike Janet Yellen who thinks that Powell is "doing a great job" (as recently as feb 26th), it would appear that Mauldin is none to happy with Jerome ("a disaster") :

The Fed Is Playing a Dangerous Game

Because I agree with Mauldin that "In an ideal world, we wouldn’t have to read the Federal Reserve’s rabbit entrails to discern the economy. But Since the Fed exists in the real world, and its decisions matter, we have to pay attention.",

and that I see the FED as useful tool in the "gaming" game, I suggest that Powell's FED is a catalyst for new trade opportunities. Along with it will help create new winners and new losers.

My gaming goal is to be on the "winners" side.

IF players will start to perceive that Powell and gang will be easing some more (in words or in fact):

- banks should become winners
- usd (dlrx) should slide down (altho I see other reasons as well)
- lower dollar would mean oil thusly expressed will go uP
- ditto for Gold

Some players should also think (and bet) that stocks would go uP on more easy money.

TIA for suggestions of gaming opportunities of the FED's game of "guiding" the cost and availability of fiat money.

How to recognize a crisis

Conventional thinking and propaganda by establishments various experts (ministers - authorities - economists):
The crisis is known only when it hits. The crisis can not be predicted. If we could foresee it, I believe we would do our best to prevent it.

A crisis is more than just a normal cycle of the economy - a recession that is simply defined as the performance of the economy declines consecutively in two quarters. The crisis is a big problem, the order is collapsing as a house of cards - one problem infects the rest and as a rapid contagion spreads through the whole organism - the economy. It requires rapid intervention.

How long does it take.
• How long do the crisis last and how do we know the crisis is over?
Most crises in the advanced world are counted in units of years. In emerging economies it may be the decade - the decade lost.

A crisis ends when the economy collapses and the situation stabilizes. Theoretically, this is simply defined as the economy is growing two quarters in succession. But the crisis is often the father of a deep recession from which the economy can wobble for a long time, and then it can only grow poorly, as was the case with the latest global financial crisis. In this context, there is talk of so-called secular stagnation.

How to avoid it?
• How do crises come about and why they can be avoided, for example, by state economies being satisfied with "sustainable" stagnation and unwilling to show just steady growth?

A crisis is in some way a radical cleansing process, separating "weak from strong", something like evolution. It fully reveals what is wrong, and separates the grain from the chaff. The crisis is a crash of accumulated problems. The earlier the accumulated problems cause a crisis, the more bearable and less devastating the crisis.

However, the economy can not be "preserved", protecting it from change, so as the state of "sustainable" stagnation could come to a crisis.

The most vulnerable sector(s).
• Which sectors are the most vulnerable in a crisis?
Which sectors can - on the contrary - profit?

A crisis can be of several species. In today's world, the most vulnerable are finances that trigger financial crises. This is due to their size, which has grown paradoxically after the global financial crisis, and their connection to the economy mainly through loans or debts.

Commercial wars can trigger business crises and mineral crisis can occur in a situation where a rare and hardly substitutable mineral occurs.

Irrespective of the type of crisis, the sectors most heavily affected are the sectors heavily dependent on consumption. The so-called "early birds" are, for example, adventurous businesses and, in the case of production, transport services - namely truck transport.

The most vulnerable sector - luxury goes aside.
• We must not forget the automotive industry, which is the representative of the so-called "luxury goods" that people stop buying as soon as they experience the first signs of uncertainty and fear. Once people are afraid of the future, they will not buy a new car, jewelry, or a luxury holiday.

By contrast, fields that are more connected to the state and are handling state orders are more stable. But in the event of sudden cuts in purchases and orders by the state these sectors will not be spared either. In general, however, the recession will come later.

The crisis can also be a catastrophe of change, and "Revolution" can bring new opportunities for new or existing but flexible firms. Today we call this the start-ups sector.

How to handle a crisis as an employee.
• From an employee's point of view, how can one prepare self to best survive a crisis ?
Do not sleep on laurels. Watch what's happening in the world. Everyone should have some alternative solutions to what to do when the situation in the field becomes complicated and be ready for change and lifelong learning.

The employee, as well as the firm or the state, should create reserves, saving for worse times, always thinking of the back door and mitigating risks.

When the next crisis strikes.
• When is the next crisis more likely to happen and in what sector will it occur?

Allegedly crisis can not be predicted. It can be sened, be documented and disused and argued about partial problems such as, and still (even greater) government and household indebtedness, rising borrowing rates, cooling economies, lack of people in the labor market, enormous pressure on wage growth, trade wars, unpleasant fears of brexit, financial problems of emerging economies, China's rapid cooling

The above-mentioned factors are so-called known unknowns according to the English term "known unknowns". "Known unknowns" (for example, still high debt) are a well-known problem. If we do not address them, it is threatened, as happened in 2007-8, that one problem will break into other problems.

The crisis of poor mortgages will become a financial crisis (huge losses of banks from poor credit), a crisis of confidence (financial institutions have not trusted and stopped lending each other) and all this leads to a deep economic downturn. One problem, as a harmful and insidious bacillus spreads throughout the body - the economy - and the result is all that affects the recession.

When the next crisis strikes - the sequel.
• The problem of today's economy is in the interconnectedness of everything with everything. The global financial crisis has clearly shown how an overwhelming financial sector can strike a deep blow to the whole economy by shutting it off from sources - loans that hae turned into addition.

But the problem can come in the form of the so-called black swan entirely from another side ... then we have to deal with "unknown unknowns," with strangers unknown. They can not be predicted at all, nor can they be prepared for them.

Due to all the signals, fear is that the world economy is on the verge of a slowdown. If we are slowing down into recession, one can not guess yet. So far we know of partial problems that have potential and strength together with other unfavorable factors of recession.

Thus, the crisis can come from the financial sector again due to the amount of debt. However, the states themselves can well make a crisis, since they are the ones who have been the most indebted for the last decade and their debt is still growing. There may be a number of even partial state bankruptcies, particularly in emerging economies, which claim to be unable to pay the bond issue - and trigger the earthquake on the financial markets.

However, the crisis may also come from the real economy - innovation and the so-called Industry 4.0 can bring about changes, that some firms and then entire sectors and then whole economy "will not digest". Before emerging and establishing new businesses / sectors, the economy may experience a severe recession. An example may be the electrification of cars which, if overburdened and hurried by government intervention (regulation or too expensive price subsidies), can lead to the rapid disappearance of sectors such as parts suppliers to cars with internal combustion engines. Before creating new companies supplying electrical components, the entire eco-system of automotive suppliers may be considerably less sophisticated. And this is an example of a significant risk for countries where the automotive industry plays an important role

How to prepare for the crisis.
• How should people in general be prepared to cope with a crisis so as to best withstand it?
The golden rule is to have financial reserves and to think backwards, specifically to make a reserve in advance that is sufficient to cover family expenses for 4 to 5 months.

And it's important to realize that nothing lasts forever. Best not to be subject to the illusion that the current real estate price growth, historically highest employment, rapid wage growth, and so on are here for ever.

On the other hand, when it's not about life, it's about nothing. We have to learn to live with crises and take them as a natural part of being.

Luck favours those who are prepared.

Pondering Powell.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The Fed deliberately created the "Everything Bubble" so that it could be deliberately imploded at the proper time - in other words, the crash we have been witnessing so far during the final quarter of 2018 and continuing into 2019 is a controlled demolition of the economy. Jerome Powell is not some "rebel" going against the easy money dictates of the Fed. Jerome Powell is playing the role that has been given to him. Ben Bernanke and Janet Yellen's job was to inflate the bubble. Jerome Powell's job is to crash the bubble.

This process of controlled demolition needs a considerable distraction so that the central banks and the globalists ultimately avoid blame for the painful consequences of the event.

Enter Donald Trump and the false Trump vs. Globalist paradigm.

An interesting couple of observations in the piece that - to me - serve as reminder of the insidiousness of things "investing" and "financial"

"The spot energy index in the S&P Goldman Sachs Commodity Index (GSCI) gained 25 percent between January and October. But with the books closed on 2018, the index ended the year down 21 percent. "

However a more impactful / instructional number is the difference between the Index's high and year's close: Oct 3rd 2018 505.55 (367.29 dec 24 low) and 374.33 dec 31 = -25.96%.

The other - again to me - noteworthy clip is ..."the strategy for oil and gas executives to appease investors is to focus on “quick cash, quarterly payouts and fast talk,” Sanzillo says. “Either way the stocks lack a long-term value rationale.”

which relates to my earlier screams on the forum that jerome FED's duty and mission is to take and keep away money from wrong hands.

Looking at jerome's Friday performance and market reaction evidence it would appear that, at least in round one, I was wrong about jerome as he blinked.

The president has been enraged over the Fed’s decision to raise interest rates in light of the strong overall economy.

“They’re raising interest rates too fast, that’s my opinion. I shouldn’t have confidence. They’re raising rates too fast because they think the economy is so good. But I think they will get it pretty soon. I really do,” Trump said, a day after the Dow lost more than 650 points and fell 2.9 percent — the worst Christmas Eve performance ever.

“I mean, the fact is that the economy is doing so well that they raised interest rates and. President Obama had a very low-interest rate. The report, the first of which will come on Nov. 28, will include a summary of the central bank's framework for assessing the resilience of the U.S. financial system and a discussion of key indicators related to the main financial stability vulnerabilities: asset valuations, borrowing by businesses and households, leverage in the financial sector, and funding risks. The Fed said the report will complement the annual report of the Financial Stability Oversight Council. The Fed said the annual review of whether to activate the countercyclical capital buffer will be conducted in January.

How I learned to love a good downturn in the stock market

some plums:

If you are losing sleep over market swings, then you should probably not own stocks.
You see, corrections aren’t all bad. In fact, if you don’t need the money any time soon, you should love your corrections.
“Corrections can be very healthy,” said Jeremy Siegel, professor of finance at the Wharton School
Market declines create opportunities.
Geniuses who pick stocks for a living even have difficulty pulling it off.
“We can use volatility to our advantage, as it provides opportunities to purchase quality growth companies at attractive prices,”
If you are retired or close to it, you should have already diversified into some cash and fixed income to avoid the market swings. (haha, should huff)
“Declines in stock prices are your friend, because you can buy more stocks,”
another silver lining to downturns. Corrections can weed out investors like hedge funds who are not in for the long term.

Margin
- allows to buy more securities that one could with cash only.
- is the difference between the market value of a stock and the loan amount.

100 shares x $10 x 50% margin rate = $500 required cash in account to buy $1000 worth of shares.

Always, ALWAYS KNOW the amount by which a stock falling in price will wipe out your position so that will lose all your money, plus interest and commissions.

The BEAUTY of a margin account vs a cash account is that when things go south, they get ugly really fast. In fact so ugly as to lead to personal or corporate bankruptcy, possibly suicide.

Everything in your account - ALL you assets - as well as your personal guarantee, are held as assurance by the broker. You WILL repay the debt no matter what happens in the trading account itself.

IF the account blows up you are on the hook for the money immediately (usually within 3 days max).
No payment plan.
No terms.

If you don't pay the broker can haul you to court to get judgments to seize your other assets. You may have to borrow new money (ie go into debt) to pay off the broker's judgement.

From: President Trump
To: President Jinping

We’re going to go $200 billion at 25 percent on Chinese made goods. And we will come back with more if they retaliate. We have a lot more to come back with. We are cracking down on the unfair trade practices of China… We have rebuilt China. We have given them such wealth. And we are changing it. So we charged 25 percent on $50 billion worth of merchandise tariffs coming in. And then they said, 'We're going to do the same thing'. And I've said: 'That is okay. We have far more bullets'.” - Trump at a packed rally in Missouri for Republican Senate candidate Josh Hawley. Sept 21, 2018

about trading opps (quotes pulled from Archive):
> AT not only gives you a strategy and patterns to trade but its trading lines give you levels to trade in all types of market conditions.
> AT always gives you a level and pattern to trade, no matter what the trend or market condition
> AT gives you trading opportunities all the time for all types of traders, whether a scalper, daytrader, swing trader or position trader. We even have a strategy for trading binary options.
> AT charts often presage market momentum shifts. AT support (red) and resistance (blue) levels can change before sentiment.
> Note how the news algos and CB speak are driving air pocket trading. This is where the Amazing Trader can be invaluable as it gives levels to trade against in what would otherwise seem like a black hole.
> the Amazing Trader is dynamic and gives you a clear picture of the structure of the market at any time.
> Take a look at the blue resistance line and how it checked the upside. It was drawn well in advance as a key level and is an example how Amazing Trader levels are amazing across all time frames.
> "The Amazing Trader if used correctly is one of the best tools one can use to trade. It truly gives you an idea of the different levels the market may hit in a bearish or bullish market when sometimes we have no clue. Most important it gives great entry and exit points."

JP Morgan's top quant warns next crisis to have flash crashes and social unrest not seen in 50 years

J.P. Morgan's top quant, Marko Kolanovic, predicts a "Great Liquidity Crisis" will hit financial markets, marked by flash crashes in stock prices and social unrest.

The trillion-dollar shift to passive investments, computerized trading strategies and electronic trading desks will exacerbate sudden, severe stock drops, Kolanovic said.

Central banks will be forced to make unprecedented moves, including direct purchases of equities, or there could even be negative income taxes.

Timing of when this next crisis will occur is uncertain but markets appear to be safe through the first half of 2019, he said.

If Tesla's PR department thought today's reported SEC subpoenas and 'formal' investigation transition by the regulator would be the worst of its problems, they got a very unpleasant surprise when Tesla whistleblower Martin Tripp started tweeting photos, internal emails, and Vehicle Identification Numbers of Model 3 VIN numbers that allegedly have damaged or punctured battery packs in them, and which he says are evidence of flawed manufacturing practices at Tesla's battery factory, and could put drivers' lives at risk.

One month ago, we reported that Martin Tripp - the former Tesla engineer who on June 20 was sued by Tesla for allegedly trying to "sabotage" the company - and who subsequently turned out to be a whistleblower who was fired in retaliation for his attempts to warn Tesla execs of severe quality control production problems, was alleging several egregious safety violations that, if true, would likely destroy what remains of Musk's tattered credibility, which the SEC is currently subpoenaing.

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Forex Brokers

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs. You can look on the forex forum for updates when one of the fx trading tools is updated.
