charged my son a $14 fee because he doesn't have that much in during that month. One can only hope that in the next crisis they are destroyed and their remains auctioned off on the courthouse steps (with @WellsFargo

also, don't kid yourselves about the number of 'commoners' that own stock. Everyone with an employee benefits packag or pension plan or IRA/401K holds stocks in some sort of fund(s) that are mangaged by people who read Barron's.
Everyday folks, policemen, fireman, school teachers, small business owners...

AUM fees rather than performance cut hashad its own issues,
not least of which hardly any "manager" would guarantee positive (or at worst flat) performance. It has become so bad that some "managers" block their "investors" from redemption putting up all sorts of barrier for investor to pack it in and run.

people - i.e. peasants - can not play ~$500 or ~$150 stocks
they just simply can not afford to go to that movie as the tickets are too expensive. Even IF the broker should "lend" 50% ... haha
Gawd forbid ~35/50K/yr income peasant gets hooked into that racket !
