Cleanliness is not always the issue.
Years ago if you went to Sham Shui PO HK, you could see vendors keeping snakes in cages and from time to time, slicing a snake alive to get out a certain bladder which served as medicine. Snake soup
you can be served at Shia Wong Hip. From the Chinese traditional medicine point of view, snake is good for health.
In short; China people have to change their culture of eating or suffer from more pandemics.

Probably the latest Corona virus will cause a big trauma, which can bring the change.

China will either make substantial progress in human sanitation, or they will continue to suffer outbreaks of various diseases. It is that simple.

Food production and distribution...the prevalence of wet markets...deficiencies in basic "Western-standard" cleanliness...how authorities respond to public disease.

It is not impossible, even in a region that is often hot and humid...look at places like Singapore...Japan...Taiwan...South Korea...you would not expect diseases of this kind to erupt in those countries to the degree it has in mainland China. Their handling of sanitation issues is very advanced.

Hopefully, they will not take as much time as it took the West to learn about such things.

More cities added to quarantine (18 now, over 50 million people)

2003 all over again:

In a post that was online for less than an hour, the Wuhan Health Commission admitted Thursday that it was struggling under the strain of the outbreak.

“At present, there is an obvious increase in the number of patients with fever in the city, and it is true that there are long queues and a shortage of beds in fever clinics,” the commission said.

A post from Wuhan Railway saying that 300,000 people traveled by train out of Wuhan on Wednesday, headed to every corner of the country, was also quickly deleted." washpost

The speed of instoration and extent of quarantines tells one all they need to know.

Job #1 is to take care of #1: Keep vehicule fuelled. Have extra fuel hide-out canisters. Stock up on necessities.

Waiting to react for quarantine annoucement means too bad too late.

Experts are preparing for an outbreak that could last months.
Dr. Gauden Galea, the representative of the World Health Organization in Beijing, said in an interview on Friday that while much was uncertain, health officials were preparing for an outbreak that could last for months. He said that eventually thousands of people would most likely be infected, citing models produced by public health experts.

“My own office is gearing up for a number of months,” Dr. Galea said. “We do not expect it to disappear in a number of days.”

China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!

According to NYTimes: Anger and mistrust spill over online
On Chinese social media, people across the country expressed mounting mistrust and resentment of the authorities in Wuhan, whom they blamed for mishandling the outbreak.
