The bottom line is that a lot of people have been spoiled by cheap money. It is said that when something is free, it goes to waste and is not respected.

That's where Western society is at right now. The bankers and politicians throw money around because it's "free" (to them anyway), in an attempt to keep the masses from revolting. Enter people like AOC saying to pay people to stay home.

But what do you do when the entire Western world is talking this way?

Maryland:
The Maryland Department of Health said in a release Thursday that Marylanders should seriously consider limiting their travel through New Year’s Day. The department launched a webpage that looks to answer frequently asked questions about holiday travel during the pandemic.

“We are all tired of this pandemic and desperately want it to be over, but now is not the time to let our guard down,” said department secretary Robert R. Neall.

re: Shumer/ McConnell - what's up wit dat?
depends on the 'shade' of your chosen NUZ source.

Politico's Sherman highlights:
"Republicans are describing the meeting this afternoon as being about government spending ahead of the Dec. 11 deadline while "Democrats are describing the meeting as being about Covid relief/government spending."

ZeroHedge:
The algos didn't care... and were insta-bid. Is the market seriously this utterly desperate for some stimulus, any stimulus? It appears so.

... one trader commented succinctly and accurately: "This is Impossible to do something rational in this piece of sheit of a market "

Personal Observations

Markets remain in a mild risk Off posture heading into Thursday trading in the U.S.

The major focus remains on Brexit negotiations ahead of the December 31 HARD deadline for an agreement. There has been chatter all week that there will be an agreement announced early next week. An accord is in the self-interest of all parties concerned. However, there are certain item Brexiteers simply will not accept. PM Johnson could still walk. Negotiators are running out of time to put a finished deal in place before yearend.

EURUSD has been a disappointment for those trying to position for a weaker USD in the new year. There are times when positioning can get ahead of events on the ground. EURGBP is soft.

Equities are recovering as news on the Covid vaccine continues to be almost too good to be true. The latest global outbreak continues to be grim. Our USD sentiment indicators, the CAD and Aussie are weak.
